Cozy Mystery: Mother Sleuth, Mooching Sons…

February 21, 2014

So, here is the third (and for the time being, final) question I received asking for help identifying an author. This one is from Donna B:

” … Over a year ago, I was in my grandmother’s assisted living facility and they have book racks there. I was browsing and found a great cozy mystery but I can’t remember the name of it or even the author. It was about a slightly older mom of two young adult mooching sons. I don’t remember if she has a job. She may have been a real estate agent. The two sons don’t treat her very well and I think she was divorced so she’s alone, which frees her up to solve mysteries. There’s nothing more frustrating than reading a few pages of a mystery and not being able to take it with you at the time and then you end up losing it! Of course the book was gone when I went in for my next visit…”

Hmmm, this one does not ring any bells for me. I’m hoping that one of you can help Donna B find the author for whom she is looking. If you think you might know who the author of this book is, please post a comment. Thank you!

P.S. #1  Janet thinks Donna B may be looking for:

Tierney McClelland: Schuyler Ridgway Mystery Series

P. S. #2  Donna B wrote this comment:

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know that I looked up Heir Condition and my library system had it here in Western Mass.! The cover art and the story description seem familiar. I’ve ordered it and we’ll know shortly. Thanks for all the tips and suggestions!

Cozy Mystery: Kind but Dishonest Medium/Sleuth…

February 20, 2014

Today I am going to (again!) ask your help in identifying a Cozy Mystery author. This letter is from Tessa:

“I am trying to remember a series with a lady who is a kind, but dishonest medium. She uses her common sense to guide her clients and of course she winds up catching killers and bad people. Her husband was horribly wounded in the war and is wheel-chair bound. The word Spirit is in all the titles, I think.”

If any of you know who the author of this mystery series might be, would you please post a comment? Thank you!

P.S. Thank you, ALL! The consensus says the author who Tessa is looking for is:

Alice Duncan: Daisy Gumm Majesty Mystery Series

Cozy Mystery: Twin Sisters, Sleuth Inherits Cottage in Quaint English Village…

February 19, 2014

Yikes! I have fallen way behind posting entries with Cozy Mystery readers’ questions, so if you all don’t mind, I’m going to ask your help (again!) in identifying some of the mystery authors/titles that some people are wanting to identify.

Today, I’m going to start with Julie’s question:

“… searching for an author whose books I read some years ago. I simply can’t remember her name. (That is unfortunately common for me.)
If by any chance her writing rings a bell, please let me know.

Her heroine had inherited a cottage in a small village in England. The characters and COZY aspect of the village are what I was attracted to. I particularly remember two old twin sisters who lived there…

When I first started reading Julie’s description, I was convinced Julie was looking for Nancy Atherton’s Aunt Dimity Mystery Series but I then realized I was getting confused with who the twins are.

Do any of you know who the author of this Cozy Mystery series is? If you do, would you please post a comment? Thank you! (See “P.S.” below)

(Whenever I post one of these types of “whodunnit” questions, I have an inkling that I’m going to be doggone embarrassed when you all find the series, and it’s one of the ones I follow! I guess I have a lot in common with Julie!)

P.S. Vicki just confirmed that the author is indeed Nancy Atherton. (Aunt Dimity Mystery Series)

No Sooner Had I Joined Facebook, When My Husband Talked Me Into Pinterest!

February 14, 2014

After talking about going on Facebook for a while, my husband finally convinced me to take the plunge. On December 17, 2013 I finally started my Cozy Mystery on Facebook. I should have known that my husband was simply having me test the water (so to speak) because it seemed like I had no sooner said yes, I’d give Facebook a try, when he started talking about the Cozy Mystery site going on Pinterest.

I have to admit that I had absolutely no knowledge of what Pinterest is about. I guess that I knew about Facebook because it had been around for so long… ten years? Over those ten years I had heard from people who tried to get me to go on Facebook. I would repeatedly answer that I was afraid I would spend way too much time looking up old high school, college, babysitting coop friends. I already felt like I spent enough time on the computer without having more distractions.

Fast forward ten years (since Facebook started) and now that I have the site on Facebook, I feel like, why not? Sure I can take another brave, new step and join Pinterest. So, the Cozy Mystery site is now on Pinterest. I am trying to get some of my major themes on my Cozy Mystery Pinterest page, but am finding that it is taking a little time for me to organize them the way I want them to be.

By the way, the Cozy Mystery Pinterest page has only been up about two weeks, and just this morning my husband asked me how I would feel about a Cozy Mystery Tweet? Now I have to go find out what the heck that’s all about!
