I know I should have done this a week ago, but I am wondering if any of you can think of a Thanksgiving mystery that you think the rest of us should absolutely know about. I did this at Halloween time (Halloween Recommendations), and thought you all had such great ideas, that I should try to do this at different holiday times. I really let time get away from me, and know this is pretty close to Thanksgiving, but wonder if you all would let us know about Thanksgiving Day mysteries you really like. We may not be able to finish the Thanksgiving mysteries we start reading, but at least we can get some of the book’s ambiance before the holiday.
If you’re anything like me, you might need to refresh your memories. Here is the Thanksgiving Mystery Book List from the Cozy Mystery site. Also, if I am missing any Thanksgiving mysteries on the list, please let me know.
Thanksgiving Mystery Book Recommendations:
Donald Bain & Jessica Fletcher: A Fatal Feast
Kate Borden (aka Kate Grilley): Death of a Turkey
Krista Davis: The Diva Runs Out of Thyme
Jane Haddam (aka Orania Papazoglou): Feast of Murder
Lee Harris: The Thanksgiving Day Murder
J. Alan Hartman, editor: The Killer Wore Cranberry
J. Alan Hartman, editor: The Killer Wore Cranberry: A Second Helping
J. Alan Hartman, editor: The Killer Wore Cranberry: Room for Thirds

If you know of any Thanksgiving theme mysteries that you think should definitely be on this Thanksgiving mysteries recommendations list, please post a comment.

I forgot to put in my recommendation. I have to admit that I haven’t read a lot of the Thanksgiving mysteries. If I finish my Halloween pick after Halloween, I usually go right into my Christmas mysteries, so I can make sure to get those read before the New Year.
I know some of you will think I’m becoming very tiresome about my recommendations, but I’m going to recommend Kate Borden’s Death of a Turkey. (Tiresome because I recommended her Death of a Trickster for the Halloween list…)
Susan* says
I think I seconded ‘Death of a Trickster’, and I’m afraid I’m going to second ‘Death of a Turkey’, too! Lol! So if that makes you tiresome, Danna, then at least you’re not alone.
I only got hold of ‘Turkey’ a couple of weeks ago, but again, I read it straight through, much the same as I did ‘Trickster’. (For the second or third time.) Ms Borden is an excellent writer, and I wish there were more in the series!
I still have ‘Death of a Tart’ to look forward to, but three is NOT enough! I like the town, and I like the inhabitants, too.
I guess I’m just greedy. Like Oliver Twist, I want some more.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Susan*, it sounds like you read Kate Borden’s Peggy Jean Turner mystery books in the same out-of-order way as I did. (I’ll second your Oliver Twist!)
Mary Joy W says
Danna, it’s not tiresome, they are a good recommendation. I enjoyed those books of hers immensely and wish she had more than just three in the series. I really bonded with those characters.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Mary Joy, I really enjoyed Kate Borden’s mystery books, also. I keep telling myself that I really should try her Kate Grilley mystery books, but books set in the Caribbean just don’t appeal to me. I much prefer the New England ambiance.
Pat says
The Gregor Demarkian series by Jane Haddam has many holiday themed mysteries. Thanksgiving is “A Feast of Murder” These are pretty old, and might not be easy to come by.
Julia says
I’m not sure if they have them all, but a fair few of the Gregor Demarkian mysteries are available in Kindle format.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Pat, I have added Jane Haddam’s Feast of Murder to the Thanksgiving mystery book list.
Susan Sundwall says
The Killer Wore Cranberry (three books) is available at Untreed Reads. I know a couple of the authors in these anthologies and they’re great.
http://store.untreedreads.com/ There’s a deal right now, too. All three for $7.99
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Susan, I have all three of J. Alan Hartman’s The Killer Wore Cranberry mystery books on the Thanksgiving mystery book list, but this price for the Kindle format of all three is terrific. Thanks!
reginav says
danna Lee Harris had “The Thanksgiving Day Murders, and Leslie Meier had (I think) “The Turkey Day Murders”.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Regina, I have added both the Lee Harris and Leslie Meier books to the Thanksgiving mystery book list of recommendations.
Christine says
How about “The Diva Runs Out of Thyme” by Krista Davis?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Christine!
Sheila says
The Pumpkin Muffin Murder by Livia Washburn (Original Title: A Cornucopia of Death).
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Sheila, I didn’t know the original title of The Pumpkin Muffin Murder was A Cornucopia of Death.
Michelle says
Turkey Day Murder by Leslie Meier
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Michelle, thanks! I had just about forgotten about this “Thanksgiving Mystery Book List Recommendations” entry.
Kathleen Kendler says
Turkey Trot Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery) by Leslie Meier.
The Trouble With Turkeys by Kathi Daley
