Cozy Mystery: Kind but Dishonest Medium/Sleuth…

February 20, 2014

Today I am going to (again!) ask your help in identifying a Cozy Mystery author. This letter is from Tessa:

“I am trying to remember a series with a lady who is a kind, but dishonest medium. She uses her common sense to guide her clients and of course she winds up catching killers and bad people. Her husband was horribly wounded in the war and is wheel-chair bound. The word Spirit is in all the titles, I think.”

If any of you know who the author of this mystery series might be, would you please post a comment? Thank you!

P.S. Thank you, ALL! The consensus says the author who Tessa is looking for is:

Alice Duncan: Daisy Gumm Majesty Mystery Series

Cozy Mystery: Twin Sisters, Sleuth Inherits Cottage in Quaint English Village…

February 19, 2014

Yikes! I have fallen way behind posting entries with Cozy Mystery readers’ questions, so if you all don’t mind, I’m going to ask your help (again!) in identifying some of the mystery authors/titles that some people are wanting to identify.

Today, I’m going to start with Julie’s question:

“… searching for an author whose books I read some years ago. I simply can’t remember her name. (That is unfortunately common for me.)
If by any chance her writing rings a bell, please let me know.

Her heroine had inherited a cottage in a small village in England. The characters and COZY aspect of the village are what I was attracted to. I particularly remember two old twin sisters who lived there…

When I first started reading Julie’s description, I was convinced Julie was looking for Nancy Atherton’s Aunt Dimity Mystery Series but I then realized I was getting confused with who the twins are.

Do any of you know who the author of this Cozy Mystery series is? If you do, would you please post a comment? Thank you! (See “P.S.” below)

(Whenever I post one of these types of “whodunnit” questions, I have an inkling that I’m going to be doggone embarrassed when you all find the series, and it’s one of the ones I follow! I guess I have a lot in common with Julie!)

P.S. Vicki just confirmed that the author is indeed Nancy Atherton. (Aunt Dimity Mystery Series)

No Sooner Had I Joined Facebook, When My Husband Talked Me Into Pinterest!

February 14, 2014

After talking about going on Facebook for a while, my husband finally convinced me to take the plunge. On December 17, 2013 I finally started my Cozy Mystery on Facebook. I should have known that my husband was simply having me test the water (so to speak) because it seemed like I had no sooner said yes, I’d give Facebook a try, when he started talking about the Cozy Mystery site going on Pinterest.

I have to admit that I had absolutely no knowledge of what Pinterest is about. I guess that I knew about Facebook because it had been around for so long… ten years? Over those ten years I had heard from people who tried to get me to go on Facebook. I would repeatedly answer that I was afraid I would spend way too much time looking up old high school, college, babysitting coop friends. I already felt like I spent enough time on the computer without having more distractions.

Fast forward ten years (since Facebook started) and now that I have the site on Facebook, I feel like, why not? Sure I can take another brave, new step and join Pinterest. So, the Cozy Mystery site is now on Pinterest. I am trying to get some of my major themes on my Cozy Mystery Pinterest page, but am finding that it is taking a little time for me to organize them the way I want them to be.

By the way, the Cozy Mystery Pinterest page has only been up about two weeks, and just this morning my husband asked me how I would feel about a Cozy Mystery Tweet? Now I have to go find out what the heck that’s all about!

Magical & Enchanted Theme Mysteries : Super Supernatural Paranormal Theme Mysteries

February 12, 2014

When I first put up the other four paranormal themes, I had no idea I would be adding this theme. Some of our favorite authors are now writing mysteries with themes that are Enchanted, Magical, and Charmed.

This list doesn’t include the following Paranormal Cozy Mystery themes: Ghost, Psychic / 6th Sense, Vampire and Werewolf, and Witch (which I’ve already listed on the Theme page.) This theme is a catch-all for those who don’t fit in these other lists.

Mystery Books with Enchanted, Magical, and Charmed themes:

Allyson K. Abbott (aka Annelise Ryan & Beth Amos): Mack’s Bar Mystery Series

Ellery Adams (aka Jennifer Stanley, J. B. Stanley, & 1/2 of Lucy Arlington): Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery Series

Annette Blair: Vintage Magic Mystery Series

Heather Blake (aka Heather Webber): Wishcraft Mystery Series

Melissa Bourbon (aka Misa Ramirez): Magical Dressmaking Mystery Series

Bailey Cates (aka Bailey Cattrell & Cricket McRae): Magical Bakery Mystery Series

Bailey Cattrell (aka Bailey Cates & Cricket McRae): Enchanted Garden Mystery Series

Carole Nelson Douglas: Midnight Louie & Temple Barr Mystery Series

Amanda Flower (aka Isabella Alan): Magical Bookshop Mystery Series

Yasmine Galeron (aka India Ink): Whisper Hollow Mystery Series (shaman)

Carolyn Hart: Nela Farley Mystery Series

Christine Husom: Snow Globe Shop Mystery Series

Tonya Kappes: Magical Cures Mystery Series

Sofie Kelly (aka Sofie Ryan): Magical Cats Mystery Series

Shirley Rousseau Murphy: Joe Grey Cat Mystery Series

Hannah Reed (aka Deb Baker): Queen Bee Mystery Series

Sofie Ryan (aka Sofie Kelly): Second Chance Cat Mystery Series

Connie Shelton: Samantha Sweet Mystery Series

Clea Simon: Dulcie Schwartz Mystery Series

Heather Webber (aka Heather Blake): Lucy Valentine Mystery Series

Please feel free to post a comment if you know of any other mystery authors (who are currently on the Cozy Mystery site) who you think write mysteries that would fit into this Magical, Charmed, and Enchanted Theme. Thanks!
