Man, you guys are good about coming up with the correct answers for fellow Cozy Mystery site readers! So good, in fact, that here is the next one…
Wanda would like to know:
…” I have read some good mystery books that have titles something like “One Eyed Jacks” and “Walleyed Pike”
Cannot find out the author. The main man is a somewhat burned out middle aged man named Jake – I think….”
Please post a comment if you think you might know who Wanda is looking for. Thank you!
PS>>> I just tried to look up the title “One-Eyed Jacks” and found a whole lot of books by that title, written by several different authors. I couldn’t find one with a “Jake” as the sleuth…
Could it possibly be a series by Elizabeth Gunn? Her detective is Jake Hines and he lives in rural Minnesota. The two titles I know are Six-Pound Walleye and Five Card Stud.
Danna the author I believe who wrote “ONE EYED JACK” was
Margaret Maron………she has two series…..the first I believe was the series SIGRID HARALD. She wrote other favorites of mine like “Baby Doll Games, “Fugitive Colors” and “One Eyed Jack.”
The second series is about a judge in N.C and all her family etc, who always gets involved in murder…..This is my favorite….Darn, can’t remember her name…..but could look up on this web or Amazon……The Sigrid Harald, is hard to find, but M. Maron did write from her webpage that they are bringing the old series back in reprint….and know that Amazon is bringing them back.
Another place that sells oldies books is ALIBRI used and new books…….I do hope this helps…….smile.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Wanda, you have your pick of authors between Lisa and Shirley.
Thank you both, Lisa and Shirley, for helping identify this mystery author for Wanda!
Danna,Thank you x 6. Lisa is spot on. The author is Elizabeth Gunn, Soon as I read it I said YES ! complete with hand pump. Can,t wait to research Amazon.
Shirley has named a wonderful author too. Margaret Maron is very good. Her series features Judge Debra Kott. Her first book is Bootleggers Daughter. I highly recommend her. Her books are based far, far away from Minnesota in the deep South. I am in the South, (Texas) but not in the deep south. Her books have a lot of location color.
Again, thanks to Lisa, Shirley and you,
