All of you lucky people who live in Orange County (yes, as in California) have a super-terrific treat heading your way! One of the board members of the Orange County Sisters in Crime sent me a letter telling me about an event that will be taking place on Saturday, March 29, that sounds pretty super-terrific-ally special.
The Orange County Sisters in Crime will be sponsoring the “Ladies of Intrigue” event in Huntington Beach, California. The event will be an all-day affair, and will feature both speakers and panelists who write mysteries.
Yes, it gets even better than that! Carolyn Hart and Rhys Bowen will be two of the authors who will be there. Yes, Carolyn Hart as in Death on Demand Mystery Series, Bailey Ruth Ghost Mystery Series, and Henrie O Mystery Series. And, yes, Rhys Bowen as in Molly Murphy Mystery Series, Her Royal Spyness Mystery Series, and Evan Evans Mystery Series. (I told you it is going to be a super-terrific treat!)
They will be covering topics that explore… well, I don’t think I can tell you as well as the letter I got said it, so I am simply going to copy and paste the rest of this information:
Fourteen Orange County and Los Angeles authors are panelists and moderators. Topics include: Tough Cookies: Strong Female Protagonists; Down a Dark Alley: How Setting Shapes Story, and Passport Required: Mystery Goes International.
The authors are Jill Amadio, Cara Black , Lisa Brackmann, Jan Burke, Carol Higgins Clark, Kim Fay, Naomi Hirahara, Tammy Kaehler, Sheila Lowe, Jeanne Matthews, Jeri Westerson, and Patricia Wynn. Moderators are Aileen Baron, Terri Nolan, and Patricia Smiley.
Location: Hotel Huntington Beach. The program is from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes lunch. For more information and registration: http://www.ocsistersincrime.org.
There is only one thing that bothers me about this phenomenal line-up of mystery-related fun, and that is: Why don’t these types of events ever take place where I live? I’m guessing you are probably asking the very same thing!

Oh, I loved the Her Royal Spyness Mysteries! ๐
Cathy says
It’s a shame that they don’t invite you and your husband! If they are asking you to promote their event the least they can do is comp you plane fare and a room!
How much fun would that be for you!

I heard Carolyn Hart (Daisy Dalrymple series) speak in Portland a few years ago. She is an excellent speaker. Wish Rhys Bowen was coming here. Really enjoy her Royal Spyness books.
Ruth says
I think Carola Dunn writes The Daisy Dalrymple series and she lives in Oregon. In late July Cara Black, Catriona MacPherson and Rhys Bowen will be in Sacramento, Ca. all together and Anne Perry who only comes to the USA every other year will be in Sacramento too.Free thanks to the Sacramento Bee.

Ruth, I take it you are going to be attending the July Sacramento author-fest. Sounds like fun!
Ruth says
You bet your boots I am. Catriona MacPherson lives in the town I work in and she is a hoot.

Ruth, if you think of it, please let us know how the day goes.

Wish this was taking place in the Seattle-Tacoma area of Washington. Sounds like a very enjoyable day. I love Carolyn Hart’s Death on Demand & Henri O series.
I also wanted to let you know that the list of Kathy Reichs books is missing a 2013 issue…”Bones in Her Pocket.” Love your lists & have been using them for a couple years. This is the first error I’ve ever noticed. Please keep up the terrific work.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Judy, thank you for the correction/addition. I just added Kathy Reichs’ novella (Bones in Her Pocket) to her page.
Thanks, again!

So much talent in one place! Unfortunately, I live on the east coast!! I enjoyed Sheila Lowe’s Claudia Rose series. They were well written and entertaining. However, I have to say that I LOVE Patricia Smiley’s Tucker Sinclair books. She wrote only four of them (the last one published in 2008), yet to this day I still hold out hope that she will continue this series. (I know, it isn’t a very realistic hope, but …I really miss these characters.) I do recommend these books. If you are looking for something to read, give them a try. Wish this event was being held near me!

Linda, wouldn’t this event be neat to be a part of! What a line-up of authors.
Nancy says
Carolyn Hart does not write the Daisy Dalrymple series. The author is Carola Dunn.

We have a Sisters in Crime chapter here in Austin and there have been some really great events. Check to see if you have a local chapter. We’ve had some fun author ones, as well as a forensic scientist present and perhaps my favorite of all was the dogs that get trained to be police or security dogs. One of the training outfits brought in a fairly young dog that was only partially trained and did some training exercises with the dog. Great fun was had by all!!!

That sounds like a fantastic day…..I wish it were happening in my city! This reminds me of one of my New Years Resolutions, “Seeking out favorite author/book/genre related happenings in my area!” Ok, it’s only March……there is still plenty of time!
I hope anyone that is able to attend has a very wonderful time!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Kimmie, I should have ended this entry with your last sentence! “I hope anyone that is able to attend has a very wonderful time!”

That sounds like a fun day. Wish it was nearer to where I live! Love Rhys and Carolyn and their books!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Patti S, I figured there would be lots of us who wish we lived in the area…
