For the beginning of the new year, we can look forward to two new Cozy Mystery Series by established authors, one of which is a Holiday-themed Cozy Mystery entry!
First, Christina Freeburn will be releasing Not a Creature Was Stirring, the first in her new Merry & Bright Handcrafted Mystery Series. Now that her children are all grown, Merry Winters has decided to enjoy her passions of Christmas, crafting, and her family by going on the road in an RV to a Christmas vendor event, but she’s surprised to find her ex-husband aboard the RV already – and even more surprised to find him dead. Now she’ll need to find the real killer to make sure that she can enjoy the holidays decked out in red and green instead of prison-issue orange! Freeburn also writes the Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery Series, starring a former US army JAG specialist now running a scrapbooking store.
The other new series will be Diane Kelly‘s Dead as a Door Knocker, the first in the House-Flipper Mystery Series. Whitney Whitaker is a house flipper working on a fixer-upper with a problem she hasn’t seen before – a dead body in the flower bed! Suffice to say, that sort of thing doesn’t help property values, so finishing this job will unexpectedly require the clearing up the death. Diane Kelly also writes the Tara Holloway Mystery Series, starring an IRS criminal investigations agent, and the Paw Enforcement Mystery Series, starring a police officer and her K-9 partner.

Susy S says
Since Diane Kelly ended the Tara Holloway series, I am really looking forward to the new one. This probably the first book I will buy in the new year.

Susy, it certainly looks like a good choice to bring in the new year for Cozies!
Dianna Gay says
Love cozy mysteries.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Dianna, you’re definitely not the only one!

Hmmmmm…now, here’s the question….There’s a cat on the cover of the new Diane Kelly series. Is there really a cat, or have the cover illustrators just cottoned to the fact that there are a LOT of cat-loving cozy readers out there? Regardless, I’m going to give this series a chance. I do enjoy house-flipping TV shows, so why not?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Bek, there is indeed a cat, named Sawdust, according to the book’s description! I wasn’t sure how much it had to do with the actual plot, though, so didn’t mention it in my own write-up.
Bek says
I’M IN! If there is a cat, and house flipping, I just HAFTA!
~whimpers quietly~ somebody stop me, please!
Susy S says
When it comes to Diane Kelly, I can’t stop myself, so I certainly can’t stop you.
In the Tara Holloway series, the pets did not play much of a roll in the first couple of books, but in later books they did. Since the second series is built around a dog, I would not be surprised if the fur people did play a bigger roll in this series.
M. Smith says
The best new release is Louise Penny’s new book! Must must read!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
M., I certainly hope it’s great!
Linda O says
These both sound good. I’m recovering from surgery and am catching up on my cozy mysteries. They truly relax and entertain me. Just finished Shot in the Dark by Cleo Coyle.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, I’m sorry to hear about the surgery, though it is good that you are “on the mend”!
Challis says
I am new here so please tell me who is the best ever cozy mystery author or the most popular
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Challis, that’s something of a tall order! Personally, I am most fond of “the classics”, so I’d suggest starting with Agatha Christie.

Dorothy Gilman’s “Mrs. Pollifax” series is also excellent. The protagonist is an older, very feisty woman. This is one of the early series, before the term “cozy mystery” even existed. I found one in my Dad’s Reader’s Digest condensed books, and was hooked.
