Okay in the September list, there are 28 authors listed. Out of those 28, I read 15 authors. Adding to inventory very quickly.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
You beat me, Ginger! There are “only” 13 I have read.
Patti S. says
What a great list! Thanks, Danna, this is very much appreciated. Love M.C Beaton, hard to believe this is the 24th Agatha Raisin book already. Time to go back and read these over again.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Oh my, Patti S! That’s a lot of reading!

Marla says
Looks like some serious reading is in order! Or should I say “binge-reading”. According to the Huffington Post, not only are folks “binge-watching” TV series on Netflix and Hulu, they are now chomping their way through an entire book series, one book after another at the beach and on vacation. So, I guess Patti S. will be very trendy this month!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Marla, if I did “binge-reading” for all of my favorite authors, I would never get to their new mystery releases!
marilyn says
i wish i had money to buy all of them
D Philipp says
That’s why I love the public library. I visit this web site and that determines what I ask for at the library. Thanks!

The Lavenes are writing a new series under the pseudonym, Ellie Grant. The first book, ‘Plum Deadly’ is to be released 9-3-13. Looks interesting……………….
The following is the publisher’s synopsis:
In this cozy mystery, a young woman is framed by her boss for embezzlement and flees to her aunt’s pie shop – but when her ex-boss turns up dead on their doorstep she must start her own investigation to find the killer – before he finds her. When Maggie Grady went back to North Carolina after being accused of stealing from her workplace, she never expected her ex-boss Louis to walk through the door of her aunt’s pie shop and tell her that he knew the truth about her situation – that someone framed her and he’d helped. But before Louis can set things straight in a press conference, he turns up dead on the doorstep of Pie in the Sky. Not only is Maggie’s secret about why she left the big city out, but now she and her aunt are suspects in Louis’s murder. With the help of Ryan, a hunky journalist, Maggie tries to figure out who set her up and killed Louis. But just as she and Ryan get closer to the truth, the killer steps up his game…

Thank you so much for the information about Ellie Grant being Joyce and Jim Lavene‘s new pseudonym, MJ. I am going to go add Ellie Grant to their page, as well as the September 2013 mystery new releases list. (Not to mention J. J. Cook‘s page!)
Shannon N says
I clicked on your hyperlink, Danna, for Joyce and Jim Lavene and saw all new books for me to tackle…..added to wish list 🙂
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Shannon N, Joyce and Jim Lavene do indeed have a lot of mysteries. And what a treat that they now have even more mysteries by J.J. Cook and Ellie Grant…
Sonia says
There is a UK tv series called “pie in the sky” about a policeman approaching retirement who opens a restaurant with his wife.
Easy watching mystery/police series.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Sonia, in January of 2010 I wrote and entry about the Pie in the Sky television show. If you read my entry (highlighted as the blue link) you will see that I totally agree with you about this being a really good television mystery show.
MJ says
Oops! Also forgot to mention:
The third book, ‘Plain Disappearance’ in the Applecreek Mystery series by Amanda Flower is scheduled to be released 9-1-13.
The ‘Sayers Swindle’ by Victoria Abbott (writing team Mary Jane and Victoria Maffini) has a release date of 9-3-13. This is the second book in the Book Collector Mystery series.
In addition, ‘Clammed Up’ (Maine Clambake Mystery series) by Barbara Ross has a release date of 9-3-13.
I don’t know anything about this author, but this is the first book in a new series. It appears to be in the ‘cozy mystery’ category. The following is the publisher’s synopsis:
Summer has come to Busman’s Harbor, Maine, and tourists are lining up for a taste of authentic New England seafood, courtesy of the Snowden Family Clambake Company. But there’s something sinister on the boil this season. A killer has crashed a wedding party, adding mystery to the menu at the worst possible moment…Julia Snowden returned to her hometown to rescue her family’s struggling clambake business – not to solve crimes. But that was before a catered wedding on picturesque Morrow Island turned into a reception for murder. When the best man’s corpse is found hanging from the grand staircase in the Snowden family mansion, Julia must put the chowder pot on the back burner and join the search for the killer. And with suspicion falling on her old crush, Chris Durand, the recipe for saving her business and salvaging her love life might be one and the same…Includes Traditional Maine Clambake Recipes!”A tasty whodunnit with a real Maine twist.” – Sarah Graves, author of A Bat in the Belfry”. If you haven’t been on a Maine clambake, Barbara Ross’s book is the next best thing…except for the murder.” – Sheila Connolly, New York Times bestselling author of Buried in a Bog
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks for the “Oops!”, MJ. I went ahead and added Amanda Flower’s 3rd Appleseed Creek mystery to the September list and Victoria Abbott’s Sayers Swindle to the December 2013 tentative list. I have never heard of the Maine Clambake mysteries, but will check them out.
MJ says
Danna, sorry about the mix-up in dates on Victoria Abbott’s new book, “Sayer’s Swindle’. I think it originally was slated to come out in Sept. In fact, their website states (under Books), “ Watch for Sayers Swindle Coming Fall 2013”. Thanks for following through to get it correct!
Amy S says
I was raised in Michigan and am looking forward to First Degree Fudge by Christine DeSmet being released in September also. Looks like a fun read!

Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jerry, thanks for the Donna Andrews endorsement!
Julia says
I’m glad to see there will be another Celebration Bay mystery. To be honest, I’d kind of forgotten about the series but I remember I really enjoyed the first one and I look forward to the new one (particularly a Christmas-themed one).
linda c says
Julia, I love reading just about any and all books that take place along any kind of water way, especially if the story is set on a bay or along an ocean or on an island. Since you have read the series before where is this “bay”! Is it on a lake, river, island!!?? Just curious!!
Donna says
Thanks for all the comments. I just added 5 new authors to check out (like I need more to read). Love your website and the new release column. It is so helpful.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Donna, I’m glad you’re enjoying the Cozy Mystery site. (I’m right there with you, on “like I need more to read”!)
M. Burns says
A great list of new books. So many of my favorite authors are coming out with new books this fall. 🙂
On another note, I was going through my list of authors that I try to keep up with and haven’t published any new books in the last several years. Had a bummed out moment when I found out several authors have either died, no longer writing, too busy to write, or have just given up on the series. Guess I will never find out what happened to whom in the books. On a happier note, there are several new series to get involved with. And I totally love this site and have been using it for several years. Thanks.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
M Burns, thank you for the kind words about the site. I’m glad you’ve been with us several years.
As for your bummed out moment >>> I know what you mean. Obviously, if the author chooses not to write any more, or has passed away, we can only miss finding out about how everything worked out. But in the cases of publishers stopping a series, I wish they would let the authors know ahead of the time they are going to be pulled. Hopefully some of the authors who lost their publishing contracts will be continuing their series via e-book format.
M. Burns says
I have noticed several authors are going out on their own or teaming up with a group and self-publishing. The Indie Voice is one such group. It really is a shame that publishers don’t give authors enough advance warning of not renewing their contracts in time for the series to be concluded.
Shannon N says
I hear ya, M.Burns. I wish Tim Myers would continue the soapmaking book series. I read a few of them, and loved them. I have now switched to his candlemaking series mystery books, but do see there are not too many of those either. I also see he has a lighthouse series. I might check that out. His writing is so enjoyable.
I seem to read faster than my favorite authors come out with continuations to their series’; therefore, I love this Cozy site. I am able to pick up new author’s/series, and get some great recommendations from other readers.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Shannon N, you might enjoy some of Tim Myers‘ mysteries written under his pseudonyms.
Jerry says
I just finished James patterson’s new one “Mistress”. Started it last night off today finished it this morning. Great book
JMW
Shannon N says
Wow Jerry! It must be good. I will add to my wish list.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I cannot imagine being able to finish a James Patterson mystery in less than 24 hours, Jerry!
Shannon N says
I always go to the cozy site to find new authors – as I wait patiently for the next books in the series I am reading.
Started the first book in A Piece of Cake Mystery Series – A sheetcake named desire by Jacklyn Brady. I liked it soo very much that I purchased the next 2.
Some other good series of books that I picked up to read on my Nook are C. Cavender’s Pizza Lover’s Mysteries and J. Beck The Donut Shop Mysteries…both keep you turning page after page.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Shannon N, it sounds like you are really working on keeping your Nook full!
Shannon N says
Thank you so much, Danna. I had no idea. I have read the Donut Shop Series and Pizza Mystery Series, but had no idea they were written under Tim Myers’ pseudonym. Thank you. I just added the Classic Diner series to my reading list.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Shannon N, I wonder if you’ll be able to keep up with all of those pseudonym’s mysteries! (I know I’ve said this many times before, but it certainly would make it easier for us if authors were allowed to use just one name…)
Shannon N says
Thanks to this Cozy list and montly updates. I just purchased a few new paperback reads:
* A Scumble River Mystery (books #1/#2). I saw that Denise Swanson came out with #16, and too, the rave reviews from this site and barnesnoble.com sounds like this series is a winner. I can’t wait to start.
* A Piece of Cake Mystery (book #4). I am finishing up book #3, and can’t wait to see what Rita/Sullivan/Gabriel are up to in #4. This series is a must read. Books 1-3 were page turners.
* A Bran New Death (very excited to read this one – I love Victoria Hamilton’s books)
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Shannon N, whenever an established authors starts writing a new Cozy Mystery series, I always worry that this means they have gotten tired of writing their first series. That’s exactly what I thought when Swanson started writing her Devereaux’s Dime Store series. Good to know she plans on continuing Scumble River.
Kristina M. A says
I am so glad that you publish this wonderful list. I Pre-order all my books from your list. Two books that are not listed are:
GOING THROUGH THE NOTIONS by Cate Price
Murder, Plain and Simple by Isabella Alan (Great book! Already finished it.) It helps to read the prequel to this book:
Plainly Murder by Isabella Alan
Thank you again for this site and your upcoming cozy mystery book list. Have a great evening.

I forgot to list one more book that just came out and I did not see it on the list for September.
A Skeleton in the Family by Leigh Perry
Shannon N says
Has anyone started Bran New Death by Victoria Hamilton? That is going to be my current read. I enjoy the Vintage Kitchen Mystery Series, and hope Victoria’s new series is just as good.
I just finished The Cakes of Wrath by Jacklyn Brady (Piece of Cake mystery series). Excellent book #4 to continue the series of Rita and Zydeco bakery. Highly recommend this series…a page turner series.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Shannon N, for letting us know how much you enjoyed Jacklyn Brady’s The Cakes of Wrath. I hope someone has started Victoria Hamilton’s Bran New Death before you finish it!
