Although this isn’t a ‘September’ release, the hardcover version of Jeanne Dams newest book in the Dorothy Martin series (Corpse of St. James) was released 2 months early. It was due out in October, but was released in August. However, for some reason, the ebooks (Kindle/Nook) still have an October release date. I don’t understand the ‘whys and wherefores’ of this. I got this book a week or so ago and finished reading it today. I just wanted to let any Jeanne Dams fans know this info.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, MJ, I just added The Corpse of St. James’s to Jeanne M. Dams page on the Cozy Mystery site.
Margaret says
Thanks for the list Danna, I just found another book to add to my list! I am going to pick up Shelley Freydont’s newest FOUL PLAY AT THE FAIR. Even tho Celebration Bay is a fictional town in upstate New York it will be fun to read about an area in my own state I am so familiar with. It takes place in the Lake Champlain region. Of course with the three books I found earlier on the site (ICED CHIFFON, SPOONFUL OF MURDER AND ALLERGIC TO DEATH) I have alot to read. Plus I already had several already lined up.
The nicest thing about cozies, they are generally such easy reads and I tend not to want to put them down so I get thru them quickly.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Margaret, I wish I lived in a colder state. I love to read Cozy Mystery series set in the New England area, so this makes Shelley Freydont’s New York perfect for me, on top of which, I am hoping that with a town’s name like Celebration Bay, the series will be full of holiday-based mysteries.
Margaret says
Danna, the problem is I have a bunch of Halloween/Fall books all set for next month and now one more, ugh!
Well I am just finishing one summer book now and have one more to go; I may have to start reading Halloween/Fall early. Luckily Halloween is my favorite holiday, but if the Fall weather is anything like the hot, dry Summer we had, it will be pretty weird reading them in my bathing suit sitting by the pool. 😉 Ah the price we pay for our reading. 😉
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Margaret, while I was making up the September list, I also was happy to see these holiday theme mysteries. It’s nice that Shelley Freydont’s is at the beginning of the series. I’m so far behind all of the authors I follow that I’d have to do a lot of “sitting by the pool” to catch up. (Now, if only I had a pool!)
linda says
I love the books from the New England area too. Thanks Margaret for suggesting these books by Shelly Freydont. I have seen her books on the shelves but haven’t tried any yet. I will do so now.
Lee says
Thanks!!!!!!!!

You’re welcome, Lee!

September looks like a great month for Cozy readers. I love the Veronica Heley Ellie Quick series. I love this service of letting all of us know when the new books are set to be release.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, I sometimes get letters asking when I will be putting out the monthly mystery book new releases lists. A lot of people like to get them early so they can request the books at their libraries.
linda says
Danna, I usually wait to try to get my books from the libraries a month after the books are released. That way I usually don’t have to wait as long for a book.
One thing I did just this past week is to go through your whole list of new releases for this whole year and then requested online for some of the books that I had missed. I also had several of the books that others have recommended as well. I have gotten all of my requests and it only took a matter of days.
My only problem with this is I also picked up the new-to-me John Grisham book “The Litigators.” As I have stated before, once I start a John Grisham book I can’t seem to put the thing down until I have finished the book.
For the last few days we have had some really nice cooler weather here in Ohio and I intend to get outside today and enjoy that weather. So some of the other books I got just might have to wait.
This is a very nice service that you give to the people who frequent this blog of yours. I know I love what you do.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, you must have picked up a ton of books from your library. Yes, I know about your John Grisham can’t-put-the-book-down>>> You probably should have left that book at the library until you didn’t have so many mysteries to catch up on!
linda says
Danna, I just now finished reading “The Litigators” by John Grisham. Because of a bad migraine headache this book took me a day and a half to read. But, my goodness, what a terrific book!! This writer/author/artist just gets better and better with each book. I sat outside all day to read this book and I could not put it down, headache or not.
I do read a lot of lawyer type books and for the most part enjoy this type. I don’t care for much of the series that deal with the crooked politicians and crooked government officials; we get enough of that on the nightly news. But so long as the lawyers, male or female, don’t engage in a lot of this stuff I find a lot of interest in what lawyers have to go through in order to present their cases to a court of law. At least this type of reading makes me think that just maybe not all lawyers need to be shot at sunrise!! Didn’t Shakespear or somebody say something like that? Or was in one of the Ceasars?
As I read this particular book I made note to myself that there was very little violence, nor was there very much sexual content. Which is proof to me that a good storyteller does not need to enagage in this type of writing to be able to continue selling books after books after books. It would seem to me that more publishers would get that idea more often. People for the most part want to read a good story written by a good writer. I would think most adult readers would want books like this.
This was a very good book. Can’t wait for the next one by John Grisham to come out!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, your weather must be really nice in Ohio. There is no way I would even contemplate sitting outside for an hour of leisurely reading. Not only is the humid heat unbearable, but we have mosquitoes down here that enjoy greeting me daily while I change the water in our bird feeding area.
linda says
Danna, This being Friday, the last few days have been a lot wamer but breezy. I haven’t sat outside much these past few days. I supposed because we haven’t had a whole lot of rain the mosquiteos haven’t been as bad. But we haven’t had many lightning bugs either, which is a big bummer.
I love to sit outside and read. I can watch the clouds go by, see the different forms they make, watch the sun rise and set. The sunsets this time of year are such that a person wants these sunsets to last forever. The bright blue sky. To me the sky is a different shade of blue this time of year. And this enjoyment is all free!!
Some of the tree leaves are starting to turn color already. Some of the trees are a chartreus (bright, light green) color. Beautiful!! I don’t suppose the leaves will be as pretty this year since we haven’t had much rain but I am hoping the Mums will be pretty. Love the Fall and all the festivals and all the color this time of year brings with it.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, you are so lucky to live in a state that has four distinct seasons. Down here in San Antonio, we have two: eight months of humid and hotter than hot, four months of cool to dreary and cold. Unfortunately, most of the trees in this area don’t change color, which is why I rely on my Cozy Mysteries to provide the changing leaves and snow each year.
Sheila says
Here’s another new booking coming out Sept. 4 – 1st in a series. Title: Last Wool & Testament (Haunted Yarn Shop Mystery); Author: Molly MacRae. You may want to add to your Sept list.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Sheila, thank you for telling us about Molly MacRae’s Last Wool and Testament. (MacRae is on my list of authors to post on the site.)
ginger says
There are 24 out of 33 authors that I read. In the last week I bought 32 books. I will be reading for a while and I go back to work on Monday. I am at 10 books read for August.
linda says
Ginger , Before I retired 4 years ago I would take a book to work with me and read during my lunch hour and during breaks. I just was never one to get involved with the breaktime gossip that others engaged in.
I was always in a hurry to read because I never wanted to put my book down and go back to work. My bosses were always a little funny about employees reading while they were supposed to be working. I think that is how I missed a lot of important clues that were included early on in the books.
Do you ever read during those times? Are you a student or a teacher? I supposed that just might determine if you did read during these times.
Joshua says
Danna – Don’t know how you manage to stay on top of so much, but thanks for all you do! This site has really opened me up to so much great reading. Much appreciated.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Joshua!
carolyn says
I know the author I am asking about isn’t Cozy, but I don’t know who else to ask. Does anyone know anything about Kirk Mitchell? I love his books about the Indian and the FBI agent. He wrote 3 or 4 and hasn’t written any more in several years. He evidently is a very private person because there is very little info about him.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Carolyn, you’re right, it looks like he hasn’t written any more books since the early 2000s. With luck, he might start publishing e-books. I know a lot of authors have done just that.
BB says
carolyn, since this is an old thread not sure if you’ll see this, but according to Wikipedia, Kirk Mitchell writes in several genres (and has used a pseudonym). Here is his list of books, including one published last year:
A. D. Anno Domini (1984)
The Delta Force (1986) (as Joel Norst)
Lethal Weapon (1987) (as Joel Norst)
Never the Twain (1987)
Black Dragon (1988)

Mississippi Burning (1989) (as Joel Norst)

Aha, BB, I didn’t know about the 2011 release. Thanks!
carolyn says
Thank you so much for the info. Haven’t been on here in a while, was glad to get the answer. Knew nothing about the 2011 release. Many thanks.
BB says
You are very welcome. Just glad you saw it! 🙂

Danna, Thanks for the September list. I see some of my favorite authors are available. I will check out Jeanne Dams as I enjoy that series very much. I “Nooked” another author from the list, Lesley Cookman. I had downloaded her 1st book and found it very interesting so I will read more.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Regina, when you say it this way (“Nooked”), it sounds like you’re putting the authors in your microwave!

I just finished Haven by Kay Hooper. Very good book. Also read an older book by Maryjanice Davidson called Undead and Unappreciated. Have never read her. I really enjoyed it. Found out she has a number of books in the series. Currently reading The Last Victim by Karen Robards. Can’t put it down. Very very good JMW

Edie Dykeman says
A number of well-known authors releasing new books – that’s cool. At first I was surprised to see a couple of names on the list, i.e. James Patterson, as he is not a cozy author but realized this must be all mysteries. Thanks for the list each month as it prompts us to grab up our favorite author’s latest!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Edie, I include all of the authors on my site in the monthly releases, whether they are Cozy or not.
Jerry says
IF you are looking for some quirky and funny books take a look at the author Maryjanice Davidson. Have read 2 of her books. Strange and funny and can’t put them down.
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jerry, thanks for telling us about MaryJanice Davidson.
Diane says
I love English cozies that are set in quaint villages and as I read your blogs and get to know the familiar names that share their likes and dislikes I feel like we are a “village” of sorts and would very much like to join. I have a question. I have started a list of holiday themed books to read as the various holidays approach. I also like to read my series in order. The holiday themed books will put me out of order. Has anyone else had this problem and is it a big deal if that one book is out of order? Thanks for this website Danna. It’s the best and you’re the best.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Diane, thank you so much for the kind words about the site AND welcome! I will agree with you, this blog “forum” has become like a “‘village’ of sorts” >>> with all of us respecting each other’s opinions, even though we may not agree with them.
As for your question about reading a holiday themed book out of sequence: I try not to, but sometime I can’t help but do it. Whenever one of my favorite authors writes a holiday themed mystery, I hurry up and play catch-up, but if I am too behind, I leave the holiday book until the next holiday season.
However, it the author is someone I don’t know yet, I go ahead and read the holiday themed mystery (even if doing that means I won’t be reading it in its proper chronological order), and hopefully, if I really like it, I have a new author who I will add to my favorite authors list. (Unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen.)
linda c says
Yes Danna, This blog/forum has become a village of sorts. It’s almost like a special family of sorts. Although in some families there seems to be a lot of arguing and shouting, there doesn’t seem to be any of that here. Or at least you don’t post those do the arguing and shouting!! Thank goodness!
I love it, and you and the other people who contribute to it. This blog of yours has become a lifeline to me. Even though a lot of time I get some things screwed up no one seems to berate me for those screw ups. I tend to have “Senior Moments” quite often.
I particular enjoy trying out some of the new-to-me writers that many suggest. I have found quite a few new favorites this way. I do hope that others have discovered new writers from my offerings as well. Hope all of you are having a great Christmas/Holiday season. Although right now I have a bad head cold, I am having a great Christmas/Holiday season.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, I’m glad the season is being good to you. My son, daughter, and husband all have colds right now. I, on the other hand, am putting my cold off until later, when they are all healthy again. (I’ve been particularly lucky this season – knock on the table!)
Connie says
Danna, I love this site and the books to be released each month, thanks for everything.
I did notice that Tres Leches Cupcakes (Culinary Mystery, book 8) by Josi S. Kilpack is not included in the September new releases. It comes out on September 12th.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Connie, for the Josi S. Kilpack information. I just added Tres Leches Cupcakes to her page, and will now go add it to the September 2012 Mystery Book New Releases. (I truly appreciate it when Cozy Mystery readers tell me about additions and corrections.)
Thanks, again!

Thanks, Andrea, for telling us about G. A. McKevett’s Buried in Buttercream.

To Andrea
If you liked Buried in Buttercream then look for Killer Honeymoon by G A McKevett coming out in March.
Just finished Bagpipes, Brides and Homicide by Kaitlyn Dunnett. Very good as usual from Ms Dunnett and Murder of a Beauty Shop Queen by Bill Crider {The new Dan Rhodes} book. I am now onto Laura Levine’s new book Death of a Neighborhood Witch.
Danna
Thank you for the new September list. You give me some great new authors that I have not read and that leads to other authors as well. Love your website. Keep them coming

Hi, Danna. You know, I was raised in WVA and I do miss the changing of the seasons. Don’t get me started about the 8 months of hotter than 8…….. I do miss the fall foliage but NOT the snow. I’d rather read about that than experience it. I do enjoy seasonal and holiday books. In hot weather, fall and winter books remind me that the time of year will change and that we won’t be stuck in hot weather for ever.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Marion, I remember when my son and daughter were young. We never knew if they would be Trick or Treating in shorts or jackets. I used to have to watch the weather in order to tell them what to wear to school. It seemed like our summer weather kept appearing all the way into the very beginning of November.
Connie says
Danna, I just read and enjoyed the first book in a new series that is not yet listed on your cozy mystery list. I would like to recommend this series, Stay at Home Dad Mysteries by Jeffrey Allen. The first book in the series, Stay at Home Dead, was published on January 1st, 2012. The second book, Popped Off, was published on September 4th, 2012. It’s a wonderful new series written by a male and revolves around a male protagonist that is a stay-at-home dad, his wife who is an attorney and their young daughter in Rose Petal, Texas.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Connie, for telling us about Jeffrey Allen. He might actually be on my list of authors to post…

Danna, I just found out today that Jessica Beck, author of the Donut Shop Mystery series has started a new series, the Classic Diner Mystery series. The first book in the series is called “A Chili Death” and was released on September 26th.

Thank you, Connie, for telling me about Jessica Beck’s new Classic Diner Mystery Series. I have added A Chili Death to her page.

Casey Daniel aka Miranda Bliss not James as your sept list indicates.

Thanks, Linda. I go over each monthly list at least five times before I post it, but this slipped right by me. Thank you!
