Beware! Another Rant…

June 8, 2009

Last week, as I sat “patiently” awaiting my specialist doctor, I took out my pad and wrote this entry. Writing this blog saved me having to find another specialist doctor to consult… I didn’t fancy the idea of having to find a psychologist/counselor, so I wrote this entry instead!

I am sitting in one of my “specialty doctors” waiting room right now…. wondering. Hmmm… “Wondering”?!? No, I’m not wondering about my health – which would be a logical thing to be wondering while sitting in a doctor’s waiting room. Nope! I’m wondering what makes him so important that he can schedule three patients to be seen at the very same time!?! Hmmm….

I’m wondering why this doctor has a sign-up sheet that says patients will be charged and rescheduled for an appointment if they arrive fifteen minutes late for their scheduled appointment. I’m wondering why he doesn’t have an area on the sign-up sheet that specifies the time your appointment is for — as if you can’t (or won’t) ask the other waiting patients what time their appointments are scheduled.

I guess that the fact that the doctor went to all of those years of medical school, residency, internship, specialty training, etc., is the reason. But, I just don’t get the logic behind that reason.

It seems to me that when patients and insurance companies are paying so much for the given services, the doctor is the service provider who should be on his “best behavior.” When did service providers become oblivious to simple courtesy? Gone are the years when a doctor who kept you waiting actually apologized upon entering the room. Now, not only do you wait in the waiting room, but you also wait in the little cubicle exam room… and then the doctor comes in and rushes through your appointment time because he feels like he is running late. He is! But, the remedy to always feeling like you’re running late is: don’t schedule three patients for the same fifteen minute block!!!

When I complain about such small irritations to my husband (since I don’t have the nerve to complain to the doctor) his response is always the same: “Why are you in such a hurry?” followed by “You would never make it in the work force today.” My response is always the same: “Thanks for listening. If I can’t complain to you, then who?”

Boy do I feel better after writing this off-Cozy Mystery subject entry! It saves me from hearing my husband’s “same old-same old” response!

Katherine Hall Page Contest!!!

June 4, 2009

Agatha Award winner Katherine Hall Page just contacted me and told me about a contest she will be having. The prize is a signed advanced copy of her new book, The Body in the Sleigh, which is due out in October.

To enter, click here: www.katherine-hall-page.org

The Body in the Sleigh is the 18th in the Faith Fairchild Mystery Series, and for those of you who love seasonal/holiday mysteries… add this one to your Christmas list! (I know I will!)

I won’t give away all of the book’s “happenings,” but I will tell you that Faith and her husband (the Reverend Thomas Fairchild) will be enjoying an unusual holiday season. The Reverend is home while recovering from a recent surgery, which means there will be more time to spend together as a family. Unfortunately Faith finds an atypical sleigh passenger in an antique sleigh…

PS>>> Did you know that Katherine Hall Page is the first person to win three categories of the Malice Domestic Agatha Awards?

Yep!

Katherine Hall Page won the Agatha Best Novel in 2005 for The Body in the Snowdrift and was nominated in 2002 for The Body in the Bonfire. In 1990 she won the Agatha Best First Novel for The Body in the Belfry. And, in 2001 she won the Agatha Best Short Story in 2001 for The Would-be-Widower and was nominated for The Two Marys in 2004.

That’s a whole lot of Cozy Mystery reading!

Ruth Birmingham, Walter Sorrells, Lynn Abercrombie, David Handler, 1/2 of Russell Andrews, Charlotte Hughes, Marne Davis Kellogg : Four (not 7?) New Authors to the Cozy Mystery Site

June 2, 2009

Here are the last of the authors I have posted on the Cozy Mystery Site. As you all know, I get recommendations from site readers who think that “their” authors will fit in with the site’s Cozy theme. If you have recommended an author who is not in this last batch to be posted, not to worry! I am already working on the next group of authors who you all have recommended to be part of the Cozy Mystery Site.

Walter Sorrells, Ruth Birmingham, & Lynn Abercrombie: All three of these authors are one-and-the-same person. Birmingham writes the Sunny Childs Mystery Series, Lynn Abercrombie has the Cold Case Thriller Series, and Walter Sorrells writes stand-alone thrillers, along with the Hunted Series and the Chass Pureheart Series for young adults.

David Handler (and 1/2 of Russell Andrews): Handler writes two mystery series by himself: the Berger & Mitry Mystery Series, which features a film critic and a policewoman and the Stewart Hoag & Lulu Mystery Series, which features a loyal Basset Hound and her ghostwriter owner. Handler teams up with Peter Gethers to write as Russell Andrews.

Charlotte Hughes: Hughes writes the Kate Holly Mystery Series which features a clinical psychologist. She also co-authors the Max Holt Full Series with Janet Evanovich.

Marne Davis Kellogg: Kellogg writes two series: the Kick Keswick Mystery Series which features a retired jewel thief and auctioneer, and the Lilly Bennett Mystery Series which features a Wyoming private detective.

Thank you all for your author recommendations!
