Eating Watermelon Cookies in Winter Snow-Ins, but Not at Rainbow's End…

December 30, 2010

I have three more questions from Cozy Mystery readers, and I would love to get them answered before the year is over!

Gayle would like to find this book:

“a mystery that was not Rainbow’s End by Martha Grimes, but another one written in the 1990s that also mentions Exeter Cathedral and the Rondels – in the one I’m looking for, one of the embroiderers is killed at the beginning of the book.

I remember it is a police procedural and it opens  (or very near the beginning) with one of the embroiderers being killed in the Cathedral precincts.  It would be wonderful if someone recognizes the book.”

Brenda asks:

“I was just wondering if you knew of any winter/snowed in cozy mystery books.”

Annette would like the following recipe:

“I just read one of the Joanne Fluke’s books, Apple Turnover Murder, there was a recipe in there for “watermelon cookies”, I gave the book back to the library before I copied the recipe was wondering if anyone has the recipe.”

I’m going to begin by mentioning Cyril Hare’s An English Murder. The mystery (which is really well-written!) takes place in a mansion during snow-in conditions.

Also, Brenda, you might want to take a look at this entry (from 2009) about cold, howling wind, and snow.

OK, Cozy Mystery readers, you know the drill! Please post your responses so we can help our fellow Cozy Mystery readers.

No Face Time on Facebook…

December 28, 2010

I’m still enjoying the holiday season, but wanted to thank several people who have asked me to become their Facebook friend.

Sometimes I feel like my family might be the last hold-outs from Facebook and other social networks. We simply don’t belong to those internet clubs. Don’t get me wrong>>> We keep up with our friends, we just don’t keep up with them through internet social groups. We write (and talk!) to family and friends, but we don’t “connect” with them through those sites. We don’t have any particular reason for not joining them, we simply don’t want to.

I mentioned before that one of my daughter’s professors required that the class contact each other through Facebook. So, clearly, she became a member during that semester, but she quit right after that obligation was fulfilled.

I have been asked by several Cozy Mystery readers to join their groups of friends on Facebook, but since I am not a member, I clearly have not. The only real reason I have for not joining is that I already find myself spending way too much time sitting at my computer, and fear that if I were a member of a social network, I would spend even more time seated in front of my computer screen.

But thank you to all of you who have invited me to join your groups!

As the Year Comes to an End…

December 24, 2010

I am hoping that everyone of you is enjoying this time of the year, when people seem to be on their very best behavior.

It’s the time of year for reflection… Have we been naughty or nice? Have there been times when we have been lazy about helping others? Have we made a difference to others?

As I ask myself these questions, I think about the people who have made a difference in my life, and I am truly thankful. I know that as I get older, I am becoming more impatient with what I consider incompetence. I do, however, try to curb my tongue and not let that impatience show… at least not too often!

So, I am going to set aside some time to reflect on this question: Have I been naughty or nice? And, if the answer is nice with a little naughty thrown in, what can I do to not have that very same dilemma next year?
