Carolyn Haines’ Bone to Be Wild: One New Halloween-Themed Cozy Mystery Coming May 2015

April 6, 2015

So here we are again, ready to discuss the great upcoming holiday mystery releases… Well… “release”, since we only have one entry this month, but it should be a good one!

Carolyn Haines will be releasing the second Halloween-themed novel in her long-running Sarah Booth Delaney Mystery Series, Bone to Be Wild. Sarah’s relationship with long-time fiance Graf has come to a sudden end, leaving Sarah feeling like she needs to hit the town and get back into a better state of mind, and what better than the Halloween ball her old friend Scott is holding in New Orleans? But when Scott’s band is threatened and the bartender at his club is gunned down, Sarah will need to once again get back to sleuthing to help make sure the party will go off without a hitch!

I have to admit I get too excited when I see a holiday Cozy Mystery book! I have written before about our two seasons down here in San Antonio, Texas. We pretty much have hot humidity or a few months of pleasant to cool humidity. I miss the four seasons! However a holiday Cozy Mystery will usually help me feel more in the fall or winter mood. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s are my very favorite Cozy Mystery holiday themes.

Three New Cozy Mystery Series Coming May 2015 – Amanda Flower: Living History Museum, Linda O. Johnston: Barkery & Biscuits, Tracy Kiely: Nic & Nigel

April 4, 2015

Last month I told you about the new Cozy Mystery series that will be starting this month (Two New Cozy Mysteries Starting in April 2015) and now I’m going to tell you about three new Cozy series that will be heading our way in May. All three of these new Cozy Mystery series come to us from established authors on this site.

First up is Amanda Flower, who will be releasing her fifth series this May… the Living History Museum Mystery Series, starting with it’s first book, The Final Reveille. This series will star Kelsey Cambridge, the director of Barton Farm, a living history museum in Ohio. When the relative of one of her museum’s benefactors turns up dead after threatening to have the museum’s funding cut, Kelsey quickly becomes one of the leading suspects, forcing her to solve the murder herself! As already mentioned, Amanda Flower is the author of multiple popular series, including the Appleseed Creek Mystery Series starring a computer specialist in Ohio’s Amish country, the India Hayes Mystery Series starring an Ohio librarian, and (as Isabella Alan) the Amish Quilt Shop Mystery Series… also set in Ohio.

Next is Linda O. Johnston‘s book Bite the Biscuit, the first book in her new Barkery & Biscuits Mystery Series. This series will star canine treat store owner and ex-veterinarian technician, Carrie Kennersly. Carrie’s only just opened up her Barkery, and it’s already making waves, particularly with the owner of another pet supply store nearby… who turns up dead! Unfortunately, Carrie might be suspected, so she’ll need to solve the crime to protect her good name… and her freedom! Linda O. Johnston also writes several other popular series, including the Pet Rescue Mystery Series, starring the operator of a California-based pet rescue shelter, and the Kendra Ballantyne Pet-Sitter Mystery Series, starring an attorney/pet-sitter and her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lexie.

Finally, Tracy Kiely will be putting out the first book in her second series, the Nic & Nigel Mystery Series. The first entry, Murder with a Twist, will introduce us to Nic and Nigel Martini, as they search for the missing husband of a friend… a task made both easier and more complicated by Nic’s history as a former detective. Tracy Kiely also writes the Elizabeth Parker Mystery Series, starring a far more amateur sleuth.

Washington D.C., the Metro, “Walkability”…

April 3, 2015

Washington D.C.Our daughter will be moving to Washington D.C. this summer. She will be living there permanently. I remember about the times I moved when I was single, or after my husband and I got married, we did everything by mail and phone calls. Now things have become so easy! The internet has made looking for an apartment almost as easy as just a few clicks.

Our daughter is currently click, click, clicking through D.C.’s different metro (subway) stations, “walkability” ratings, tenant reviews, neighborhood police reports, let’s face it, everything! She is coming up with a list of apartment complexes she thinks look promising. My husband and I are then going to fly out and check out the complexes and their areas. We’ve done this before, but this time we decided that since she will be doing all of her commuting to and from work via the metro, we’re going to do the same thing.

This should be interesting! The last time I was on a subway was in Boston (the “T’ in Boston), and let me tell you, I was a little disillusioned with what I saw going on! Let’s just say that the subway today is a whole lot different than from what you might see in an old black and white movie! (Did they even have subway systems back then?!?) I was surprised to see men and women of all ages sitting on the T while eight-month pregnant women were forced to stand. Hmmm…

Even though our daughter won’t be moving for several months, my husband and I have discussed D.C.’s hot summer months, so we are planning on going during April. When our children were little we lived in Maryland for a while, so this will be a going-home of sorts for us. However, it will be our first trip to neither rent a car nor take our own, so this might prove to be … hmmm… fun. (???)
