Cozy Mystery News – January 2017

January 13, 2017

This Cozy Mystery news letter is going to be rather short, but that’s not to say it’s not full of great Cozy Mystery news!

For those of you who are Cora Felton fans (that’s right, the Puzzle Lady!) you’ll be very pleased to know that Cora will continue to creatively solve her mystery puzzles. Parnell Hall will be bringing us another new Puzzle Lady mystery after this month’s new Puzzle Lady mystery (A Puzzle to Be Named Later).

Well, if you’re not all caught-up with Kathleen Paulson, Owen, and Hercules, you better hurry up and read your New York Time’s bestselling Magical Cats Mystery Series books! Sofie Kelly (aka Sofie Ryan & Darlene Ryan) just signed on for two more Cozies in this series. Good news for all of us! (I better start reading faster!)

This is great news for all of us who look at Sherlock Holmes as the best mystery-solver of all times! Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger will be the editors of a fourth anthology that contains stories that have the Sherlock Holmes feel to them. And, for those of you who are Rhys Bowen fans, she will be writing a story for this anthology. (Here are the three already-published anthologies King and Klinger have released: In the Company of Sherlock Holmes, Echoes of Sherlock Holmes: Stories Inspired by the Holmes Canon, and A Study in Sherlock: Stories Inspired by the Holmes Canon.)

I know a lot of you are fans of Anne Perry‘s series – even though I know they are historical mysteries, not Cozies. Here’s some great news for you! She has just been given the green light to write the 33rd Charlotte and Thomas Pitt mystery, her 24th William Monk mystery, and her 16th Christmas mystery. That’s right! And, her Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series is going to move into the early 20th century, since it will feature Daniel, their grown son. Didn’t I say it was great news for her fans?

I think I mentioned that Teresa Trent (the author of the Pecan Bayou Mystery Series) will be starting a new series called the Henry Park Mystery Series, which will feature Gabby Wolfe (who has Sixth Sense) in Henry Park, Colorado. Well, here’s some good news for those of us who read Teresa Trent’s Cozies. She has just signed on to write the Piney Woods Mystery Series – which I am guessing will take place in Texas – since we have an area called “Piney Woods”.

I’ll be back with more Cozy Mystery news when I have more to report. Until next time…

Two New Mystery Series by Cozy Mystery Authors Coming February 2017

January 6, 2017

There will be two new series coming up in February by Cozy Mystery authors.

First is Winnie Archer‘s Bread Shop Mystery Series, which will be beginning with Kneaded to Death. In this series, struggling photographer Ivy Culpepper may have a sudden change in careers when she enters a bread making class and realizes that she’s drawn to the art of baking. When a fellow classmate is found stabbed to death in a nearby car, Ivy decides to solve the case to clear the names of her instructors. Winnie Archer is also the author of the Magical Dressmaking Mystery Series under the name Melissa Bourbon, which stars Harlow Cassidy, a fashion designer, and the Lola Cruz Mystery Series under the name Misa Ramirez, which stars Lola Cruz, a private investigator.

Second, Laura Bradford will be releasing Death in Advertising, the first mystery in her new Tobi Tobias Mystery Series. Tobi Tobias is the owner of an aspiring advertising agency – or she would be, if she could get her first client. Unfortunately, her big break might be ruined by the unexpected discovery of a corpse in the client’s showcase closet. Bradford is also the author of the Amish Mystery Series, starring Claire Weatherly, owner of an Amish specialty shop, the Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery Series, starring Winnie Johnson, bakery owner, the Jenkins & Burns Mystery Series, starring a reporter (Elise Jenkins) and a detective (Mitch Burns), and (as Elizabeth Lynn Casey) the Southern Sewing Circle Mystery Series, starring Tori Sinclair, a librarian and member of a sewing circle.

If you’re looking for other great new Cozy Mystery Series >>> these series and more can be found on the New Cozy Mystery Book Series page, or even more upcoming Cozies if you are looking for a continuation of a favorite series on the Soon to Be Released Mysteries page of my Cozy-Mystery site.

Even More Upcoming Television Mystery Movies for January 2017!

January 4, 2017

I forgot to include some mystery-type of things that are going on at the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel when I sent out the Upcoming Television Mystery Movies for January 2017 entry. So here goes!

I could be wrong (perhaps it happened earlier and I just didn’t notice) but the television mystery series, Father Dowling Mysteries (aka Father Dowling Investigates), will begin airing on this channel during January. Hallmark M & M describes the series as “An amiable, inquisitive Chicago priest moonlights as a detective and is assisted by a rather worldly, lock-picking nun.”

The show is loosely based on Ralph McInerny‘s Father Dowling Mystery Series of books. It stars Tom Bosley (Father Frank Dowling) and Tracy Nelson (Sister Steve – short for Stephanie – Oskowski) and ran in the late 1980s.

Also, be sure to mark your television-watching/recording calendars for these new mystery movies:

Sunday – January 8, 2017
Garage Sale Mystery: The Art of Murder *****PREMIER*****
When Hanna’s sorority sister’s stepmother is found dead, it appears she fell, hitting her head against a pipe. Following the memorial service, Hannah and Abbey go to Jenn. Abbey thinks that something is amiss. The facts surrounding the death are troublesome. Jenn gets involved and – as always – uncovers the truth and brings the killer to justice. Stars Lori Loughlin, Sarah Strange and Steve Bacic.

Sunday – January 15, 2017
Framed for Murder: A Fixer Upper Mystery *****PREMIER*****
In the small resort town of Lighthouse Cove, everyone knows that the best man for the job is a woman. And that woman is Shannon Hammer, owner of Hammer Construction Company and an expert in Victorian home restoration and renovation. Through her renovations she will find clues to uncover the house’s secret past and in turn become an unlikely sleuth to help crack these unsolved mysteries. Stars Jewel, Colin Ferguson and Laura Soltis.

(I’ve already set up my DVR to record both of them.)

Sunday, January 22 doesn’t have a mystery movie premier and I’ll try to see of Sunday, January 29 does when Hallmark M & M finally updates its schedule.
