Cozy Mystery News – February 2019

February 8, 2019

Wow, this is quite a great lineup of news! I’ve got way more than normal to share this month, so I’m just going to jump right into it!

First, Bailey Cates will be putting out two more in the Magical Bakery Mystery Series, starring Katie Lightfoot, bakery owner in Savannah, Georgia. This is the only series (so far!) written under the name Bailey Cates, but the same author also writes the Enchanted Garden Mystery Series as Bailey Cattrell, and the Home Crafting Mystery Series under the name Cricket McRae.

Jessica Ellicott will be writing three more mysteries in the Beryl and Edwina Mystery Series, bringing this historical Cozy Mystery series to a total of (at least) six entries. Jessica Ellicott also writes the Sugar Grove Mystery Series and the Granite State Mystery Series under the name Jessie Crockett, as well as the Change of Fortune Mystery Series under the name Jessica Estevao.

Lots of big news for fans of Amanda Flower – she’ll be releasing a third entry in the Magic Garden Mystery Series, three novellas in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery Series, and will also be starting a new series titled the Farm to Table Mystery Series, which will star a woman returning home to run her father’s organic farm who (naturally!) ends up suspected of murder. Amanda Flower also writes the Magical Bookshop Mystery Series, the Living History Museum Mystery Series, the Appleseed Creek Mystery Series, the India Hayes Mystery Series, and (as Isabella Alan) the Amish Quilt Shop Mystery Series. (And, as if all of the above isn’t enough, this Agatha Award  author also writes the Andi Boggs Mystery Series for children!)

Next up is some great news for those of you who enjoy Victoria Gilbert’s Cozies! Victoria Gilbert will be starting a new Cozy series, the Booklover’s B & B Mystery Series, which will star a young widow who inherits a literary-themed Bed and Breakfast in Beaufort, North Carolina. At least two entries in the series are confirmed – with the first book titled Booked for Death. (Sounds pretty great, doesn’t it?) Victoria Gilbert also writes the Blue Ridge Library Mystery Series, starring a former university librarian now managing a public library in Virginia.

On with February’s Cozy Mystery News!

Anna Lee Huber will be releasing a fourth in the Verity Kent Mystery Series, which stars a widow from the Great War who worked for the Secret Service, set in the late 1910s and 1920s. Anna Lee Huber also writes the Lady Darby Mystery Series, another historical series, this one set in the 1830s and starring the wife of a deceased anatomist in Scotland.

And here’s some great news for all of us who are fans of either Erika Chase or Linda Wiken! Essie Lang will be the third moniker by this very same author. That’s right, the same author of the Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery Series (written as Erika Chase) and the author of the Dinner Club Mystery Series (as Linda Wiken) will be writing the brand new Cozy Mystery series called the Castle Bookshop Mystery Series. Hmmm… Castle? That’s right. Shelby Cox is an ex-editor and the current bookstore co-owner of one bookstore in Alexandria Bay, New York and also the co-owner and manager of another bookstore that is situated in a castle on an island. The first book is titled Trouble on the Books.

Next up, Meg London will be starting a new Cozy Mystery Series starring an American gothic novelist who works at a bookshop in Upper Chumley-on-Stoke, in England. (I’m not sure whether she’ll be writing as Meg or Margaret London – I’ll keep you posted.) Meg London also writes the Sweet Nothings Vintage Lingerie Mystery Series, but may be better known as Peg Cochran, under which name she writes the Farmer’s Daughter Mystery Series, the Cranberry Cove Mystery Series, the Murder, She Reported Mystery Series, the Lucille Mystery Series, and the Gourmet De-Lite Mystery Series.

Edith Maxwell will be releasing Judge Thee Not, the next in her Quaker Midwife Mystery Series, a historical series set in the late 1880s in Massachusetts. Edith Maxwell also writes the Local Foods Mystery Series, starring an organic farmer in Massachusetts, the Country Store Mystery Series starring the owner of a store in South Lick, Indiana (under the name Maddie Day), and the Speaking of Mystery Mystery Series, starring a Quaker linguistics professor in a New England small college town (under the name Tace Baker). Pretty terrific news!

Finally, Dorothy St. James will be starting a new series, starting with The Broken Spine, starring a small-town librarian who sets up a secret book room in her library. Dorothy St. James also writes the Southern Chocolate Shop Mystery Series, starring a chocolate shop owner in South Carolina, and the White House Gardener Mystery Series, starring an assistant White House gardener. (Oh, and more great Dorothy St. James news: her 4th Southern Chocolate Shop Cozy is scheduled to be released this October!)

Wow, that’s sure a long news post! I hope there’s at least one good piece of news for each of you!

Two New Cozy Mystery Series, One New Cozy Mystery Holiday Book Coming February 2019

February 6, 2019

I’m doing this slightly differently this month. In the past, I’ve presented both upcoming new series and upcoming holiday releases a month ahead of time, but I skipped this post last month so I could try presenting them a bit closer to. So I’d like to hear from you if you prefer it this way, where the books I’m talking about are just about to come out, or coming out in a month or so?

Anyway… February will have two new Cozy Mystery Series, as well as one new holiday-themed Cozy Mystery!

First up, Margaret Dumas will be releasing Murder at the Palace, the first in her new Movie Palace Mystery Series. This paranormal themed series will introduce Nora Paige, a lover of classic films who leaves Hollywood for San Francisco after breaking up with her husband. There, at the historic Palace movie theater, she meets up with an eccentric group of film buffs, including the 1930s ghost of an usherette… and the body of a much more recently murdered stranger! Margaret Dumas hasn’t written much in quite a while, but she is also the author of the short Charley & Jack Fairfax Mystery Series, a wealthy husband and wife sleuthing team in San Francisco.

Next up is Victoria Hamilton‘s newest series, which will be beginning with The Gentlewoman’s Guide to Murder. This historical series set in the English Regency era (1811-1820) will star spinster Emmeline St. Germaine, who has only just rescued a scullery maid from assault by Sir Henry Claybourne before learning of the knight’s untimely death. Considering that she had recently threatened him, she knows she’ll need to determine who truly killed him, if only to ensure her own safety from accusation. Victoria Hamilton also writes the Vintage Kitchen Mystery Series, the Merry Muffin Mystery Series, the Teapot Collector Mystery Series (under the name Amanda Cooper), and the Lady Anne Addison Mystery Series (under the name Donna Lea Simpson).

Finally, Amanda Flower will be releasing Criminally Cocoa, an Easter-themed novella in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery Series. Charlotte Weaver is visiting New York, and her cousin Bailey King, both for Easter and the premier of Bailey’s first cable TV show, Bailey’s Amish Sweets. But a number of odd occurrences start happening on set, apparent coincidences that seem intended to ruin Bailey’s premier. With Bailey preoccupied by the TV production, it will be up to Charlotte to determine if this is just sloppiness… or intentional sabotage! Amanda Flower also writes the Magic Garden Mystery Series, the Living History Museum Mystery Series, the Magical Bookshop Mystery Series, the Appleseed Creek Mystery Series, the India Hayes Mystery Series, and (as Isabella Alan) the Amish Quilt Shop Mystery Series.

For more upcoming Cozy Mystery Series, check out the New Cozy Mystery Book Series page on the site. For more Easter-themed Cozy Mysteries, check out the Easter Mystery Book List page on the site.

PS: I probably won’t respond to each specific opinion of whether people prefer books discussed a month ahead of time or in the month of release, unless there’s more to respond to than a simple “I like it this way”.
