Cozy Mystery (and Other Favorite) Books, Movies, and TV

Oops!

February 5, 2014

My tech guy (aka my husband) is in the process of transferring all of my files/content to a new computer. He sat down at my computer last week to do something and saw how much time it took my old computer to save new pages that I put on the Cozy Mystery site. I guess I didn’t notice how long it took because I was used to it, AND I’m still amazed at how much computers do, regardless of the time it takes them to do it!

I usually get my husband’s cast-off computers when he upgrades his, and in the past when he has given me one of his old computers (a new one to me) I haven’t mentioned it because everything went seamlessly. But this time he hit a glitch that he tells me was a stupid mistake:ย I had nine comments that some of you had posted between 2:30 and 10:30 AM (my time) which I have lost. He was able to restore everything from before the time that my back-up took place last night, which was at around 2:30.

Everything is back to normal now, so I won’t be losing your comments again. I’m sorry that I lost comments that you took the time to write.

LOL! That’s the kind of thing I usually do. Not a techie type. I envy you your computer guru, Danna, and wish I had one! My former website went down and I couldn’t get it back (a ton of bloggers had the same problem with that site) so I just set up a new one and started over. Three years of articles and posts down the tube. ๐Ÿ™

Donna Mc, I have wondered what people do when they don’t have an in-house techie. We back-up everything every night, but if my husband didn’t know how to take care of things, I wouldn’t know what to do with the back-ups.

What a shame about losing three years worth of posts and articles.

Danna, I always got my husbands cast offs whenever he got a new computer which I understood because he did all the important households things on it and I just played around on mine. But imagine my surprise when about 2 years ago a young gentleman rang my doorbell holding a brand new one for me! A great surprise from my husband and he had him set it all up for me before he left. Now I don’t think I’ll ever get another new one but I sure do enjoy this one. You are very lucky that your husband knows how to fix computers. Mine is going to be 80 this year and bless his heart, he’s looking into computers courses so he can fix ours when needed. He’s an amazing man and it sounds as though you are blessed also with a wonderful husband. Lucky us!

Judy E, your husband sounds like a very dear man. Imagine him wanting to go take some computer courses just so that he can fix your computers.

I am lucky that my husband (who, incidentally is not a computer/electrical engineer) became interested in computers years ago. He actually got so proficient with them that people in his office would use him to fix their computers instead of waiting for the computer technicians to fix them.

Nothing to do with this blog post, but… did you see? Jim Parsons from Big Bang Theory was on Craig Ferguson tonight. Turns out he loves cozy mysteries, and he mentioned your website!! How cool is that!

Thank you so much, Allison, for mentioning Jim Parsons being on Craig Ferguson’s Late, Late Show last night. I went to the CBS channel and watched the clip. I was really impressed to see both men “admit” to being avid readers! (You don’t hear that very often these days!)

Just watched the clip. Amazing and even tho I do use a Kindle at times, I loved that they discussed reading a hand held book. The Big Bang Theory is my daughter’s favorite show. I now have a better respect for Jim Parsons. He is an avid reader.

Karen, isn’t it great when you find out that a celebrity reads for enjoyment?

After all the discussions here about books without profanity, I had to laugh when the network chose to bleep the words “dot com” but allowed a few other words to slide! My Mama watched it and said, indignantly, “that man used a very ugly word.”. From now on when I get angry I will just yell, “dot com it!” and hope Mom doesn’t overhear. ๐Ÿ™‚

Personally I am so glad to have my brother available by phone for computer troubleshooting!

In many ways computers are so wonderful but at times they just make me want to tear my hair out and cuss a blue streak. Thank goodness for my bro the computer wizard!

Marja, my primary care physician has a brother who is some type of computer consultant, which has enabled her to keep way ahead of the “paperless” pack. I often wonder how her nurse technicians can handle all of the different programs my doctor requires them to learn.

Thank goodness for brothers! And, it’s even better when they are computer wizards!

Marja! Me too, sometimes I make up ‘names’ or cuss words – ex: You 30 pounds, you! – SHUT DOWN? YOU should be SHOT down! – What? Again? ‘no results?’ (accompanied by groan.)
Hang in there, what the stinker does is more important than what it doesn’t for us writers.

Definitely lucky us, as Judy said, and lucky you, too. You wouldn’t like to lend hubby out at some point would you? Lol!
I just found out today, for instance, that the reason the work computer kept coming up with ‘security certificate errors’ was not that there was anything wrong with the websites I was looking at, but that the computer’s date was wrong!!
It’s been doing this for a while, and it took 10 seconds to fix – once I realised what the problem was… Grrr! (I suspect your husband would have known straight away.)

I know, Susan*, I am very fortunate to have a techie husband who is willing to help me out when I am lost >>> and not just on the computer!

The computer having the wrong date sounds a lot like my husband’s problem yesterday when he lost those nine comments. I’m not so sure something that obvious would have been caught by him. It’s sort of like when you see what you expect to see, not what you actually do see…

Worry not, Dear One. I don’t remember if I left a comment, but it doesn’t matter.

Your Dear Husband didn’t mean to lose them. You didn’t mean, for them to be lost.

    “Stuff” happens.

    “Sh*t” happens, too. -wink-

    Hugs,
    Tessa~

Tessa, I’m surprised by how few times “stuff happens” >>> and am quite often left wondering how Brave our New World has become with all of this technology.

(I remember typing my husband’s thesis years and years ago on an Atari ST. Good grief, we’ve come a long way!)

Nope, Annette, I don’t think I’ve ever lost a comment before, but then again, if I lost one, I wouldn’t know.

My computer is a lot faster, but I’m not very good with change, so it is proving to be a little challenging. Good thing I don’t have to pay my “tech buy” by the hour!
