Wow, May book releases already. Seems like Christmas was yesterday. I can not wait to recieve my copy of Amy Patricia Meade’s DON’T DIE UNDER THE APPLE TREE. As I said earlier I don’t tend to read period mysteries, but how could I pass up a mystery with Rosie the Riveter. The only one of her books I have read is WELL OFFED IN VERMONT, and I really enjoyed it, so I am sure I will like this. This sounds like such a fun, unique series; with such a strong, iconic female character like Rosie how can you go wrong.
I am also thinking of trying out Baily Cates’ BROWNIES AND BROOMSTICKS, even though I don’t normaly choose ‘paranormal” cozies. I love Savannah (one of my favorite vacations!) and since it is the first in the series, why not check it out?
This is why I love this site!
alfred says
Margaret I to ordered Brownies and Broomsticks as well as the latest Emily Brightwell book and Sofie Kelly’s book Copycat Killing. I didn’t know if I would like the paranormal theme of the later book but I do. She has two cats that have magical powers and can become invisible and walk through walls and doors. I know Danna is reading this series as well so maybe she can elaborate a little about it for you too. I am also currently reading the latest Amanda Lee book that just came out.
Laura says
I love period mysteries, especially those that take place in the 1930’s and 1940’s. I’m looking forward to the “Rosie the Riveter” series. I hope it doesn’t disappoint.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Laura, I hope that the new Agatha Awards’ category for historical mysteries is a sign that this is the new trend in Cozy Mysteries!
Margaret says
Yes, Alfred, I have already read the first two in Sofie Kelly’s Magical Cat Mysteries. I love Owen and Hercules, they are the best part of the stories. Kathleen’s relationship with them is so much like my relationship with my cats!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Margaret, I totally agree with you about Owen and Hercules.
Now that Sprite isn’t here, I find that I am sort of turning to more and more pet theme Cozy Mysteries. I am currently reading the first of Leann Sweeney’s Cats in Trouble Mystery Series. For now, the pets in the books are curbing my urge to adopt a new dog or cat. I’m not sure we’re ready for the commitment of another pet, so I just have to be strong, and reach my books to help me get through my adopt-a-pet urges. (Not easy to do when my daughter keeps telling me to go get a pet NOW!)
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Alfred, I just love those two little cats in Sofie Kelly’s mysteries. Even without their magical powers, they seem like ideal pets to have around…
MJ says
Keep in mind that Bailey Cates is Cricket McRea who writes a Home Crafting (no paranormal there) series. I happen to like that series so will give Brownies and Broomsticks a try, even though I (like many of you) don’t usually enjoy ‘paranormal’ mysteries. I’ve opened my mind up a bit since I’ve read Sofie Kelly and Amanda Blair.
Thanks, Danna, for keeping us informed of the author’s various pseudonyms! So far, I happen to like Laura DiSilverio, Lila Dare, and Ella Barrick (all same person) series, too. I didn’t think I would like the Mall Cop series because I didn’t like the premise. But I gave it a try and found the story to be enjoyable. Hopefully the second one will be good.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
MJ, as I have written before, I enjoyed Sofie Kelly’s first Magical Cat mystery. I would say it definitely has “opened my mind up a bit” also.
MJ, I’m glad you like all three of “her” mystery series, but wouldn’t it be easier for all of us if authors could just go by one name?!?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I know, Margaret. This year really has gone way too fast.
My husband decided to go ahead and retire a little earlier than he had planned due to some health issues, so the last two weeks (since he retired) have gone even quicker than the last three months since Christmas. While I really enjoy having him at home, the days just seem to whiz by.
As for the books, I am looking forward to several from this month’s list.
Jerry says
Danna
Just one correction if you don’t mind. Laura Levine has a book coming out in September called “Death of a Neighborhood Witch” Killing Bridezilla is from 2008. Just Finished So pretty It Hurts : a Bailey Weggins mystery by Kate White Good Mystery
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Jerry, for pointing this out. I just changed all of the pages on the site that I had added (mistakenly) this book to – as a new release.
Thanks, again!
Denise says
I don’t understand Laura Levine’s new book being Killing Bridezilla as this is an old novel of hers from 2008. Do you know why its being billed as her new novel?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Yes, Denise, I do. I made a mistake on the list. Usually I am able to find the books that are being re-released – when I get the author’s page set up. I’m sorry this one slipped by me.
ginger says
There are 17 authors listed that I read. Can not wait for May and I get out of school on the 18th of May. So I will have the rest of May to read those books before the June books come out. YEA!!!!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Ginger, please note that I made a mistake with Laura Levine’s book. It is not a new mystery in her series.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Ginger, you mean to say you read every author on the May list except for one?!?
ginger says
that’s correct. those are the authors that i get new books for. but keep in mind that i keep up with authors too. so i might have at least 10 more that have books coming out in may.
Deb says
Almost all these books were on order for my library, so I have a long list of requests that won’t get filled for a while. Most of the cozies had 1 or 2 requests before mine, but the Women’s Murder Club had 144! I hope they ordered lots of copies!
You all have broadened my horizons a lot since I started following this blog. I’m trying books I wouldn’t have in the past. The library loves me because I’m beefing up their circulation statistics!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Deb, James Patterson has a lot of devoted fans, as does Maxine Paetro!
linda says
Danna, May looks like another good month for reading. I love Katherine Hall Page. Except for a few I don’t really care for a lot of series with ministers and/or preachers but this one I do. There are quite a few new-to-me aunthors on this list that I am going to try.
It’s April already. Easter has just passed. Beautiful day here in my part of Ohio. It is very windy here. Too windy to sit outside and read but I have been reading nontheless.
What a boring life it would be if I couldn’t read!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, I forgot to mention that the latest Katherine Hall Page mystery (The Body in the Boudoir) is set in 1990, when Faith and Tom Fairchild got married. It ought to be fun to find out the details of their very early days.
linda says
Danna, For some reason I thought an earlier Katherine Hall Page book had Faith and Tom getting together as a main topic? This just seems to ring a bell for me for some reason.
linda c says
Danna, I just now finished reading “The Body in the Boudoir” by Katherine Hall Page. I know what I am going to post about this book will more than likely get a lot of “Spoiler Alerts” but I thought I would comment anyway.
When I said that this plot sounded very familiar, that one of the previous books in this series had the story of how Faith and Tom got married, I was right! Now, I can’t remember which book it was because it has been a long time since I have read that particular. But the plot for this book was the plot for the earlier book.
This series is one of those that I intend to read again, just to prove to myself that the plots in both books are one and the same.
It seems to me there are some things in the second book that weren’t in the first. But just to be sure I am going to reread all of these books. This won’t be a hardship for me because I have loved this series from the begining. The love story between Faith and Tom is very heartwarming.
I wonder why this was done though? I can’t think of any other writer who has done this. I also just finished reading Debbie Macomber’s “Cedar Cove” series and a lot of the books in this series kept referring back to happenings from previous books. But I would think this was done maybe for readers who had started reading a middle book, something like that.
After reading the epilogue from “The Body in the Boudoir” I thought maybe this is going to be the last of this series. The way a lot of the characters from the first book were said to have now died off is what is making me think this might be the last book in this series. I sure do hope this isn’t the last.
Except for the one or two books that had “Pix” being the sleuth I have loved each and every book.
If the author of this series reads this, I hope this isn’t the last of this series. This has been one of my all time favorite series. Please don’t stop writing this series.
I hope this author doesn’t think I am berating her for this particular book. That isn’t my intent. I did like the book very much. I have loved this series. I have always looked forward to each new release. I just can’t understand why the one plot in two books.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda C, as in all really good Cozy Mystery series, it is obvious that we would have gotten some of the background to Tom and Faith getting together. This is one of the factors that we look for in a Cozy: three dimensional characters. I wonder if this last book in the series didn’t feel “familiar” to you because we knew how they met and fell in love, but this prequel to the series puts together all of their past as a couple. Katherine Hall Page has been fleshing out her characters throughout all of the books in her series, and now she has given us the “whole story” in one book.
I agree with you, I sure hope it’s not the last in the Faith Fairchild Mystery Series!
Sheila says
Don’t want to rush April but I am looking forward to May. Can’t wait for Emily Brightwell’s Mrs Jeffries Defends Her Own; James Patterson & Maxine Paetro’s 11th Hour; Victoria Thompson’s Murder on Fifth Avenue; and the new series by Bailey Cates Brownies and Broomsticks. The biggest mystery of all is whether Madelyn Alt’s In Charm’s Way will really be released on May 1.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I know, Sheila, Madelyn Alt’s In Charm’s Way is sort of like Nancy Fairbank’s Blood Pudding.
linda c says
And here, Sheila, May is half over!!
Regina says
WELCOME TO THE MAY LIST. There are 2 authors on it that I really like, Katherine Hall Page and Ann Purser. Quick as bunny(can’t shake Easter), I am going on line to reserve them at my library. My son brought me on Sunday 2 books I have been waiting for, “Buried in Buttercream” and “The Big Cat Nap”. No one home today so I am going to have a good read.
linda c says
Regina, I keep forgetting about writer Ann Purser. I have read some of her books in the past and have really enjoyed them.. I have this author on my list to look for in the near future. Thanks for reminding me !
Misty says
Thank you so much for putting out this list each month. I have already reserved two books from the list at the local library. I have been hooked on the Sarah Graves series (I’m number six on the waiting list) and I absolutely LOVE the Dead End Job Series by Elaine Viets (I’m number one!) I find myself laughing throughout the story of each book. I also wrote down a few other series that sounded good but I am one of those people that will not read a series without starting at book one. Thanks to your site, I won’t have any problem getting a list of each series in order. Thank you so much.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Misty, for telling us about your enjoyment of Sarah Graves and Elaine Viets. And, I’m glad you were able to reserve your copies of both of their books so quickly. You’re looking at a lot of good reading in May!
Jerry says
Regina
Buried in Buttercream is great as is the whole series by G A McKevett
Merry says
I am most looking forward to Laura DiSilverio’s All Sales Final, I realy enjoyed the first book in her mall cop series.
Just finished reading Stay at Home Dead by Jeffrey Allen, this is the first in his Stay at Home Dad series. Nice to have a male lead caracter. The dad Deuce Winters stays at home to care for his three year old daughter Carly while wife Julianne works as a lawyer. This is a light hearted fast read with some good laughts.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Merry, thanks for telling us about Jeffrey Allen’s Stay at Home Dad Mystery Series!
Jerry says
Misty
If you need any suggestions just ask. You might take a look at Deborah Coonts and her Lucky Series
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Jerry, for telling us about Deborah Coonts’ Lucky O’Toole Mystery Series.
Misty says
Jerry,
Thanks for the “Lucky” series recommendation. I did a search and it seems like these books are similar to Elaine Viets and Janet Evonovich. I have reserved the first Lucky book. Any other suggestions that are similar to the above mentioned authors would be greatly appreciated.
Regina says
I finished “The Big Cat Nap” on Tuesday. It was her usual style, but the animals did not seem to play as big a role as they usually do. Looking forward to McKevett’s book. I have been a fan of hers since she first began writing paperbacks. I guess I can identify with her as I have a weight problem. Before that book, I am going to read Adrianna Trigiani’s newest book. It is not a mystery, but she usually writes a good story. Because I get most of my books from the library, I read them in the order that they are due to be returned.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Regina, I think it’s always refreshing to have a sleuth with “a weight problem.”
I remember when I first started reading Cozy Mystery books>>> It seemed like almost all of the sleuths were young, incredibly beautiful (although they never knew it— Right!) and very slim. They were definitely not like anyone I could really identify with, even though I was “young”… I like my sleuths to be … more “real-people” looking.
Heather says
Can anyone help? I started a series about an English Lord who was in love with a showgirl (Kate) who refused to marry him because of the difference in their stations in life. There was also a street urchin (Tom) who helped him solve his mysteries. I can’t remember the author’s name or the name of the series.
Melinda says
Heather:
I think you are looking for the St. Cyr Mystery Series by C. S. Harris.
REPLY
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Again, Melinda, thank you!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Heather, it looks like Melinda has your author!
Margaret says
Danna, I looked all around the site to make sure you did not have this book or author listed. I hate to add to your work, but I have to add a new author. It looks like it was released April 3. It is by Linda “Eika Chase” Wiken; and it is titled A KILLER READ. It takes place in Alabama and is the first in the new Ashton Corners Book Club Mysteries. All I had to see was the two beautiful Siamese Cats on the cover and I was sold, so I just ordered it. I’m hoping I enjoy it to add it to my favs list, but I am sure I will. But there again, as you asked before, does the cover art make you want to read a book, and in this case YES.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Margaret, I don’t have Elka Chase on the Cozy Mystery site, but she is in my “Authors to Post” list. Thanks for telling us about A Killer Read. (Hopefully I’ll get Chase’s page up soon.)
Margaret says
OOPS, sorry Danna it is Erika, I made a typo; sometimes I type too quickly. 🙂 I just received the book today, and I see she has another one coming out in December. Again, the cover art is what attracted me to this series, so I hope I can add it to my “favs”. But anyone who lives with Siamese Cats can’t be wrong.
p.s. I agree with your daughter! But wait until you are really ready.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Margaret, I hear what you are saying about cover art. I like the new trend a lot of publishers are going with. I’m attracted to this type of artwork, also. And, since the publishers seem to be going this route, I’m guessing that there are a whole lot of us.
PS>>> I have a feeling my daughter will win out!
Louise says
Thank you for posting the May list of the new releases. I always enjoy to see who the authors and what are their new releases are about. I have picked up 3 new authors to add to my vast list of books and authors that is currently held in my two inch binder. Whenever I go book shopping I always bring my binder with me. Thank you for creating such a wonderful web site for all of us mystery fans.
Lynn T. says
Louise,
I, too, have a binder that I carry along with me when I go into book stores that carry new and older books. I print out Danna’s book listing of specific authors and the books they have written. I then put those sheets in my 3 ring binder. They are marked as having read or have. Those not marked are ones that I am looking for in the series. I recently discovered in my state a chain called Half Priced Books. They carry oodles of books new and old. All paperbacks are half priced. So I am finding many out of print books and older books in series that I am reading. A clerk in one store asked me if I read fast. Due, I suppose to the bag of books I purchased. My husband said “No, she is starting up her own book store.” The clerk believed him. I said “He is just kidding.” Would love to have a book store though. Ah! Just being around all those books.
Yes, I have a Kindle too!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Lynn T, sounds like the binder idea is a good way to not have to keep scribbling in the margins. I am guessing that you all just add a page whenever you add a new author.
Wouldn’t having a bookstore be great? It would be more like having a well-loved hobby than a job.
ginger says
that is what i do. i have a binder and make lists by author and highlight what i have read/bought to read. so i know what books i have and need. i also love half price books. i don’t have in my state but when i visit my niece, that is where i go and barnes and noble too. i print out lists from this site and 2 others. i highlight the books to buy: pink is hardbooks and orange is paperback: blue is for have/read. i use yellow for the binder list. it takes time to do this but i can keep up with it this way.
ginger says
i make the list on my computer. i use excel and i love it.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Ginger, your color-coded list of books sounds too complicated for me! I just draw a line on the books I have read, and put asterisks on the ones I already have. Your niece must enjoy it when you take her to book stores.
linda c says
Lynn, As much as I read I have often wondered what it would be like to be a librarian or to own a book store. If I owned a book store I would probably “read up” all my profits. I have talked to librarians and most of these people say that where they love to read they seldom get time to read in the library during their work time. Funny how some bosses are, huh!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Louise, my “favorite authors” list isn’t in a binder, rather on a (Microsoft Word) folder that I can keep adding to and deleting from. Once a year, I go through the list and print out a new copy, which has my handwritten notes as well as my computer amendments. A binder would probably be a lot more manageable than my method…
ginger says
i know but it works for me. it took years to find a way i could keep up with. just work with a system that you know and like. that is why i am an extreme book person.
linda c says
If I were to take a binder or a note book with me to the library so that I could look for my favorite authors I would have to take a cart of some kind to hold the thing!! There are so many great writers. I’ll bet my carpal tunnel hands as well as my tendonitis shoulders would scream in protest.
Just talkative this weekend. I went to several community garage sales this week. Picked up several new-to-me authors. If I like these authors then I will look for more of the same. If not, then I will just donate these back to the libraries.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda C, that sounds like a real win-win situation. Hopefully you’ll like some of the new-to-you authors, and then you can donate the books to your library.
Jerry says
Just finished Betrayal by Danielle Steel. You might want to get it. Kept you going till the end Great and quick read
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Jerry, for telling us about Danielle Steel’s Betrayal.
linda c says
Danna, For all the books I have read over the years I have never read a Danielle Steel book. My sister loves this author and I seem to always know that I can get her a copy of this writer’s new book for whatever gift giving event is coming up. But I myself just can’t get into her books.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda C, it’s interesting how we all can like and dislike the same authors, isn’t it?
Shirley says
Hello Danna; April 12, 2012

Judgement Call by Judith Jance
Haven by Kay Hooper
You Don’t Want to know by Lisa Jackson
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you,Jerry
I show J. A. Jance’s Judgment Call as coming out in July of this year, as well as Kay Hooper’s Haven. To be followed in August by Lisa Jackson’s You Don’t Want to Know.
linda c says
Danna, This is another of my favorite characters. I love J.A. Jance’s books but Joanna Brady is one of my favorite. I am so glad to know that another Joanna Brady is due out soon.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda C, my lists of mystery book releases comes in handy sometimes…
linda says
Yes they certainly do Danna
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Linda.
(I’m going to go ahead and go back to just calling you “Linda” – now that the other Linda isn’t posting as much. Hope that’s OK with you.)
linda c says
That’s fine Danna. I can be just Linda.
And I do realize that there are only so many plots to stories but this book did end up just the way I knew it would. Oh well, maybe someone else reading this book will have a different outlook. This would be interesting.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I guess it will be a mystery until someone else comments on the book’s similarity, Linda.
linda says
I just this morning finished reading “Miss Julia to the Rescue” by Ann B. Ross. What a delightful, funny book. The antics of Etta Mae and Miss Julia are laugh out loud funny. I really love how Ms. Ross keeps most of her regular characters in the story, even if just for a little bit. Poor Sam! He is going to have to start thinking twice before he leaves on future trips.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, thanks for telling us about your enjoyment of the Miss Julia mysteries, by Ann B. Ross. I am way behind on that series, and need to start reading more so I can “sort of” catch up.
Jerry says
I just finished A Teeny Bit of Trouble by Michael Lee West. Second book by her. Great mystery. Kept me going till the end. Can’t wait for her new book.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Jerry, for telling us about Michael Lee West!
Jerry says
Just finished Harlan Coben’s new book Stay Close. Very good book. Didn’t know who the killer was till the end.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jerry, thanks for telling us about Harlan Coben’s Stay Close. I hate it when I can identify the killer too soon in a mystery.
linda says
I love those kind of mysteries, too–the ones that I can’t figure out who the killer was until the end. Then I sort of get mad a myself for not spotting the killer, especially with some of the earlier clues the were given. I like when an author can change his or her writing this way. Makes reading these authors a lot more interesting.
Jerry says
I just finished Stuart Woods new one Unnatural Acts and he has another coming out later this year Severe Clear. Mr Woods knows how to write them.
JMW
linda c says
Jerry, I like Harlan Coben, Stewart Woods and Robert Parker, too because their books are fast paced. There isn’t a whole lot of backwards descriptions of the characters. I really miss Robert Parker.
Jerry says
If you are looking for a good book with multiple suspects read Deadly Offer by Vicki Doudera. Hit the library system last week. Its the 3rd book by the author. Finished it this morning. On to Nora Roberts “The Witness” My wife and mother in law both say it is Can’t put down reading
JMW
Danna Thank you so much for your new book releases
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Jerry, for the Vicki Doudera endorsement!
Jerry says
Started Nora Roberts The Witness yesterday and finished it this morning. 488 pages. They were right could not put it down. Had to be one of the best books I have ever read. Go forth and read it.
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Good grief, Jerry! You read FAST! I’m still reading the same book I was reading when you told us about Vicki Doudera!
Victoria Hamilton says
I hope you don’t mind me adding another May release to your list… my first ‘Vintage Kitchen Mystery’ entitled ‘A Deadly Grind’, is due out May 1st from Berkley Prime Crime. Hope everyone enjoys it!
Margaret says
I just checked out your new book, and it sounds great. The Domestic Diva, Book Town and Cheese Shoppe Mysteries are three series right at the top of my “favs list” and it sounds like your new series might fit right in. I just placed my order on B&N and look forward to reading it.
Again what I love about this site is finding new mysteries I may not of heard of otherwise.
Victoria Hamilton says
Thanks, Margaret! I’m really excited about the Library Journal review they posted on B&N!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Victoria, for telling us about A Deadly Grind and your new Vintage Kitchen Mystery Series. I have actually been working on your page for the Cozy Mystery site. That’s proof that this really is a small world!
(I’m going to try to get that page up very soon.)
Victoria says
Thanks, Danna… I’m so excited… only 5 days now.

Just finished one of Sophie Kinsella’s older ones {2006}
The Undomestic Goddess. Second one of hers I have finished. I am hooked. Great read
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Jerry!
Julia says
I’m very happy there’s a new Emily Brightwell, and that ‘Rosie the Riveter’ mystery sounds interesting but honestly, the pickin’s are a little slim this month. Or maybe I just got spoiled in April – there were so many new books that came out, both new series starting and old ones continuing.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Julia, the May 2012 Mystery Book New Releases has a lot less new books than the previous month. I’m glad there are two authors on it that you follow.
Jerry says
Linda C
Even though Robert Parker is gone there are two news books coming out 1 Ace Atkins has Robert B. Parker’s Lullaby which is a Spenser book and is coming out this week and 2 Michael Brandman who wrote Killing the Blues {Jesse Stone } has Fool Me Twice coming out in September { Also Jesse Stone }
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Jerry, for the information about Robert B. Parker’s books. I have decided not to continue adding the books to his page, now that he is gone. But, I know that there are many who will continue enjoying both Spenser and Jesse through the new authors.
linda c says

I am just now reading Victoria Thompson’s “Murder on Fifth Avenue.” I swear I have read this book before either by this author or by another author.
As I started to read this book I kept saying to myself that this plot sure does sound familiar. I have just checked this author’s list of books and it does list this book in the series as being the 14th in the series. Now, I am just about half way through but I know how this story is going to come out. I know the reason the person was murdered. I know what the murdered person did that caused him to be murdered. I know who murdered him.
I just can’t believe this is a brand new book. I have a sneeking suspicion that an older book in this series is a new release of this older one. Kind of makes me not want to read this author again. I think it is a shame people have to be so unfair to readers this way. I don’t know if this is the author doing this or the publisher, but it is very unfair.

Linda, I just rechecked, and don’t see that this book is an earlier book with a different title.
I know that I have read books before where I think I have read the book, but when I check my lists, I see that I am mistaken. Perhaps this book is reminding you of a television show, or a book by another author?

Danna, Before I submitted my remarks on this particular book by Victoria Thompson, I examined the information page to see if maybe this book was a reprint of an older book. But I didn’t see anything that suggested that was the case. But I still think I read this plot before somewhere.
I have always had the nasty habit of saying that I was positive about whatever statement I had said in the past, only to be proven that I was actually dead wrong. I am surprised that my face isn’t permanetly stained with egg yolk from doing this.
Some day soon, maybe next winter when I have caught up on the rest of my favorites newer releases I will go back and reread this series. If I am wrong I will admit it. Maybe you will imagine my face with egg yolk on it one more time.
This is a good series. I love the time period. I love American history. Not the wars, battles, political, stuff like that. But how Americans were, and still are, able to endure during those hard, hard times of our history.
It seems as if I have been reading quite a few books that are set in this era. One thing we can say after reading some of these books that describe the conditions and restrictions that women have had to endure is “We have come a long way, baby.”

Linda, there’s no crime in saying what you believe!
I was pleased to see that the Agatha Awards now include the new Best Historical Novel award this year.
And, yes, we have come a long way!

Danna, just another comment about a book from the April list. I read ” Monkey Wrench” by Terri Thayer. This is another really good series.
I have said before that I had to have carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand this past spring. Soon I will be having the left hand done. I wanted to have this done, not only to get rid of the pain from the carpal tunnel, but also so that maybe come winter again I can learn how to knit and then I would like to take up quilt making, at least try too anyway. I couldn’t do either one of these things with my sore hands.
I love the stories that have people that are involved in these two age old crafts. The friendships that seem to develop among groups of people who partake in these crafts are so heartwarming. I hope someday soon I can be a part of a group like that.
You are probably waiting for my “I loved this book, But!!” So here it is. I knew who did it and why it was done almost from the begining of the book. There really wasn’t a mystery at all. I just find it hard to believe that our main sleuth took so long to figure out what was going on. I think if she would have told her cop boy friend about some of the happening at least he would have figured it out a whole lot sooner.
Sometimes I wonder if some of these Cozy mystery writers ever read any cozy mysteries? I still enjoyed the story and I will read this author again. Just wondering if some cozy writers ever read any other cozies? Might be interesting to know.

Linda C, good luck on your Carpal Tunnel surgery. I hope you are able to take up quilting. I tape the Sewing with Nancy shows, and think it looks like a lot of fun. (I love her segments at the end of the show – Nancy’s Corner – where she interviews someone in the sewing/quilting world.)
I wonder if as we read more and more mysteries, we don’t become better at figuring out “who done it”. I have written before about sleuths who keep information from the police>>> I’m not crazy about that plot tactic…
