Louise says
I am very thankful for such a wonderful web site you have.
For years i have been reading mystery books of a few selected authors. With you web site the amount of authors I really enjoy reading has grown quite a bit. I keep a binder alphabetical with the names of the authors i like and with their books that I look forward to purchase. I visit your web site often for new releases and for other categories.
Sincerely,
Louise
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Welcome to the site, Louise, and thank you for the kind words! I have one copy of my alphabetical list of favorite authors at my computer, and the other copy in my TBR bookshelf in my bedroom.
Tania says
Thanks again. Love your site. I hope I have found some new authors to read.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
You’re quite welcome, Tania. I hope you are able to find some new authors to follow, also.
Deb says
Thank you, Danna! I just added 9 books to my library requests. I’m hoping more will show up later because so many of these are new series, which I’m looking forward to. I was really surprised at how many of the books already had more than 20 requests so early! I’m in a lull right now because I’ve read just about all the new cozies they’ve got.
That made me very glad to have sprung for a NOOK version of the Nell Sweeney series – 6 books for one low price. I remember somebody here recommending them, so I read a sample and snapped it up. I love history and mystery, so it’s a great choice.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
You’re welcome, Deb. You must be following nine very popular authors from this list. At my library, they get so many copies of really popular authors, it seems to not take much time to finally get a book with a long list. Hope you have the same type of library…
Marisa says
Thank you very much, a lot to add to my list.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Marisa, I was sort of surprised by how many authors are publishing mysteries during March.
Sheila says
You’re the best Danna. Love your site. I have also added books to my must read list.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Sheila, I have added books to my list, also!
Sheila says
Danna. Do you know why The Ghost and the Bogus Bestseller by Alice Kimberly didn’t come out when it was suppose to?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
No, Sheila, I’m sorry, but I don’t know.
Angela says
The newest Alice Kimberly was released in Jan. Amazon is currently out of stock. She released the new one under the Cleo Coyle name. That said, I have unfortunately had trouble getting my hands on this book in my local bookstores. I was very surprised by that, considering the switch to Coyle, I thought that would make it a shoe in for the stores to have it prominently displayed. I like this series more then the coffeehouse series and can’t wait to read the latest installment…if I could only find it!!
MJ says
Supposedly Alice Alfonsi and Marc Cerasini (Cleo Coyle) will tell you the reason for the delay of Ghost and the Bogus Bookseller if you subscribe to the newsletter on their website:
coffeehousemystery.com.
They answer this to a question regarding it on the message board (icon on the left). BUT they don’t state why on the website, emphasizing the necessity of subscribing to the newsletter.
However if you click on the ‘haunted mystery’ icon (left side of site) and then scroll down, they state it will be released ‘later’ this year (emphasizing ‘LATER’). Also, the cover of this book on their website and at Amazon shows the author to be Cleo Coyle and NOT Alice Kimberly.
Angela says
Well that would explain why I can’t find it…this is the second time they have delayed this book’s release. When they first announced it they had a fall 2011 release date for it. Someone should really clue Amazon in to the changes since they still have the old info on it. Thanks for the heads up on this MJ.
Regina says
Danna, Wunderbar !!! New books to look for. I was happy to see Kerry Greenwood and Kate Ellis have new releases in my favorite series. I am reading “Believing the Lie” by Elizabeth George. It is very slow reading and very long, 608 pages. Truthfully I find it rather dull because she has too much detail. What do your other readers think?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Regina, when you said you were going to do some light reading, and Elizabeth George was your choice for that “light” reading, I was sort of surprised. I used to look forward to all of her books, but, she does seem very detail-oriented. I prefer my mysteries to be a little shorter than 608 pages >>> What am I saying?!? I prefer my mysteries to be about a third that long!
Deb says
I love long books! I’m reading Elizabeth George again, and I’ve found Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series, which I love. I also like Anne Perry’s Charlotte and Thomas Pitt books, though not the Inspector Monk series. But I do like the Mr. Monk series by Lee Goldberg, even if they’re not very long!
The Nell Sweeney collection I have now is like reading a nice long book – it’s 6 books in one, so I’m reading them all in a row.
I much prefer a series book to a standalone because I can get really immersed in the characters and setting – just like reading a nice long book.
Chacun a son gout, as they say in France!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Deb, you are so right>>> everyone has his/her own choice. I wish I didn’t get so impatient with long books. I used to read long mysteries, but now I just find myself saying “Come on… Let’s get this going…” too many times during beautifully written descriptions.
Deb says
Danna, that reminded me of a couple of “long book” stories. One was a historical novel I read in high school. I couldn’t figure out what happened to a prominent character, and it turned out she died in the middle of an extremely long descriptive paragraph that I skipped!
The other was when my father was reading the novel Hawaii, by James Michener, who couldn’t write a short book. I asked my Dad where he was in the book, which covered the entire history of the islands from their formation out of the ocean through the orginal Polynesian settlement all the way up to the 1950s. His reply? “She just died.”
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Deb, “She just died.” was so funny, right after I read that, I simply HAD to tell my husband!
Re: your high school historical novel >>> That’ll teach you to read every word! (Sort of why I don’t like extremely long books… You can never know when to just skim through sections…)
linda says
Deb, I am kind of strange about the length of a book. I am as of now reading M.C. Beaton’s “Death of a Kingfisher, A Hamish Macbeth Mystery.” I absolutely am in love with Hamish and I would dearly love for this book to go on and on. I hate these stories to end. I have so many favorite authors that I hate to get to the end of a book! But I also want books to get over so that I can get on to the next book.
I guess sometimes we just aren’t satisfied, are we?
P.S. I read on the inside back cover of this book that the BBC had a TV series with Hamish Macbeth!!!! I didn’t know that!!! So I looked that up on the internet last night and low and behold, there was Hamish! Looks just like I thought he would! Oh how I would love to be able to see this TV series. I did see these were available for purchase.
I sure do wish the BBCA would put some of these TV series on so we could watch them here in the good ole US of A. I want to watch ENGLISH TV on an ENGLISH TV channel. I have plenty of USA channels to watch American TV. The BBCA sure misses their calling here on this.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, I have seen the Hamish Macbeth mystery shows, and while I did like them, they were quite different than M. C. Beaton’s Hamish Macbeth mystery books. Also, I like the actor who played Hamish, but he didn’t look at all like what I had envisioned, and he didn’t come off as such a big oaf. I think a lot of people underestimate Hamish (in the books) because they think he’s a simpleton… and are quite surprised when he continuously solves the mysteries.
(It’s funny how we all come away from series with different ideas of what we think the characters look like.)
linda says
Danna, What I like the most about Hamish Macbeth is that he has all he wants in life and he really doesn’t want anything else. He is very happy and content with his life just the way it is. How often do we ever get to meet someone like that? How many of us are like that? Not too many in fiction and very few in real life. Hamish just wants to be able to do the job that he has been given to do. I think Hamish is a very honorable, responsible person. He loves the area of Scotland that he has been given to police. He is very loyal to those people that also live in his area and he will do anything he can to see that “his” people have justice. All he asks is to be let alone to do his job.
I know that sometimes his story tries to make us believe he is a lazy oaf but he really isn’t . I love this new character that was introduced in “Death of a Kingfisher.” I hope Dick Fraser is around for a long time. I think he makes a perfect sidekick for Hamish.
I hate it when TV producers rewrite a book! Wouldn’t you like to know what goes on in some of these people’s heads! Why mess with something that is so good!!
harvee says
Just love this list. Glad to hear about Jane Cleland’s new antiques mystery. I really enjoy this series.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Harvee, for the thumbs up about Jane Cleland’s Josie Prescott Antiques Mystery Series!
Susan says
Danna, Love the list. I bought the first of the Rex Graves by C.S. Challinor mystery series for my Kindle this morning. I’m always looking for a series to follow. Thought I’d start at the beginning this time! =0)
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Susan, did you just admit you don’t always start at the beginning of a mystery series?!?
Julia says
Personally I always start with the first book in the series that interests me…and that’s not always the debut novel. One time I tried to be good, and started with the first Sam Adams book by Sarah Shankman. It is a wonderful series, but it changed radically in direction and characters in the third book, and I very nearly didn’t bother with the third book because I wasn’t wildly impressed by the first two.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Julia, good point! It’s sort of like the television show
Star Trek: the Next Generation:
If we had started watching the show in the first season, there is a chance we wouldn’t have continued watching it for long. It took the show a season (at least!) before it hit its stride. We went back and watched the first season (eventually) but we were pretty surprised at how bad some of the shows were…
Regina says
Danna, I am puzzled about the publication of Simon Brett’s new book, “Guns in the Gallery”. You featured it for February as does Amazon, but Fantastic Fiction and BN claim it will be published in June. Am I mis-reading something? Help?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
That’s weird, isn’t it, Regina. I am assuming that Amazon has the books, since it has:
“In Stock.
Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available.
Only 2 left in stock–order soon (more on the way).”
on the Guns in the Gallery page…
Susan says
Since the February release is a hardcover, it’s quite probable that the June release date is for the paperback.
It’s quite usual for that to be released much later.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Aha, Susan, this could very much be the case.
Julia says
I’m glad Denise Swanson is starting a new series. I really enjoyed the early Skye Denison books but some of her characters have evolved in not too pleasant ways. I am looking forward to her starting fresh with a new cast and setting and seeing where she goes with it. She is a very talented writer.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Julia, I think Denise Swanson’s new mystery series (Deveraux’s Dime Store) looks like it might be a lot of fun. I certainly hope so!
Regina says
Danna, My light reading for the Super Bowl was Jeanne Dams not Elizabeth George. I finally became fed up with her book yesterday and skipped to the end. I am with you, I like my books short, sweet and simple. I never told you how much I too appreciate your web site. It keeps me aware of my favorite authors and introduces me to new ones. At one time when I could visit libraries and book stores, I would find new authors. You provide that service for me now. Thank you
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Regina, that makes a lot more sense! Elizabeth George is definitely not my idea of light reading!
And, thank you for the very kind words about the site, Regina.
Andie says
I am so please to see the new entry in the Gregor Demarkian Mystery series by Jane Haddam will soon be out.
Some people don’t consider these mysteries “cozies” but I do because they deal so much with human relations and give interesting sidelights into the home lives of an evolving ethnic group.
In the early books there was so much written about Armenian foods that I was prompted to contact an Armenian church that helped me obtain a cookbook published by the ladies’ auxiliary.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Andie, I used to read Jane Haddam’s Gregor Demarkian Mystery Series. I also enjoyed the “interesting sidelights” that you mentioned.
Jerry says
I just finished Catch Me by Lisa Gardner. Read the last 200 pages last night. Great book as usual. My wife just finished Left For Dead by Judith Jance. She said it was very good. Reading that one next. Private Games by James Patterson and Oath of Office by Michael Palmer just hit the library system. Probably a long wait for both. Just a heads up
Always looking for suggestions so keep them coming. Danna your website is great. Keep finding new authors. Thank you
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jerry, I’m glad you and your wife are finding new authors to try out. By putting the monthly list up so early, I figure a lot of people can get their requests in at their libraries before too many people are on the waiting lists.
susie says
Thanks for this great list! I’m amazed at how prolific some of these writers are, like my favorite, Rhys Bowen.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Susie, I’m pretty amazed at how prolific a lot of the authors are, also!
Jerry says
I just finished First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones. One of the strangest books I have ever read but could not put it down
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Jerry, for telling us about Darynda Jones.
Donna says
Amazing work, always! Thanks for your site. It saves me a lot of time trying to keep track of my authors and trying to find new ones!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Donna, for the kind words! I’m glad it has helped you find new authors. I have found quite a few new authors, also.
Ingrid says
Thanks from yet another grateful reader for helping me keep up with my many favorite authors as well as trying a new one now and then. I dropped the Denise Swanson Skye Denison series but may give the new one a try. Your information is extremely helpful and if I had a web site, I would include a link.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
You’re welcome, Ingrid, and thank you for the kind words about the site!
Alison says
Hi Danna, great list as usual. There is one new release that you haven’t included – “Murder Buys a T-Shirt” by Christy Fifield. Release date is 6 March.
Thanks,
Alison
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Alison. That is because I only include the mystery authors who are currently on the Cozy Mystery site. (Maybe I should annotate that on the Mystery Book New Releases monthly lists.)
Jerry says
Just finished Oath of Office by Michael Palmer. Great mystery
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Jerry, for telling us about Michael Palmer.
Jerry says
Just finished Murder in a basket by Amanda Flower
Very good
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Jerry, for the Amanda Flower endorsement!
linda says
Here it is March 1st already. March here I think came in like a lion. The people on the TV weather shows said like a lamb. Yesterday was so nice here. I think the temps were in the upper 60’s. I sat outside and read almost all afternoon. I can’t ever remember being able to do that here in Ohio in Feburary! I think spring is coming!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I know, Linda, if I were a gardener, I would probably be planting my bulbs right about now… But since I’m not, I don’t even know if 80* weather is when you do that, or not.
Amy says
Danna,
As always, thanks for this list! I’m so excited a new Savannah Reid is coming out!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Amy, I always enjoy seeing who is putting out a new Cozy. I’m going to be posting the April 2012 Mystery Book New Releases tomorrow.
Melissa B says
I love cozies, and have had a email subscription to your blog for quite a while! Your blog posts are so interesting and informative, thanks so much!
My to be read lists are getting longer and longer… =)
Thanks for all of the work that you do!
I can’t wait for the the April 2012 Mystery Book New Releases!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Hi, Melissa B! I always look forward to the monthly mystery book new releases, also. Of course, I especially like it when one of the authors I follow has a new book amongst all of the rest.
Humberta says
I discovered “cozy” mysteries last year when my husband gave me a Kindle for Valentine’s Day. Until then I read regular mysteries, adventure novels and sci-fi. Then I happened to download a cozy mystery because the cover looked interesting and have been hooked ever since. I’m a divorce attorney and needed fun, light reading and these are just the ticket. As a dog lover I started with Susan Conant and Donna Ball and moved on to the crafts series (especially scrapbooking), the culinary series (Cleo Coyle, Avery Aames), etc.
Your website has been a great help in finding additional authors. Thank you so much for your effort. Keep up the good work!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Welcome to the site, Humberta. We have talked about the different types of Cozy Mystery book covers, and how they catch our eyes and affect us differently.
I definitely think divorce attorneys would need “fun, light reading”!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Gemma Halliday’s Hollywood Scandals is free on Kindle …
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Nita R! Thanks for telling us about the free Kindle e-book Hollywood Scandals, which is the first of Gemma Halliday’s Hollywood Headlines Mystery Series. The even better news is that all three of the Hollywood Headlines mysteries in that series have been bundled for the Kindle, and cost only $0.99.
