Ouch! Seven on my ‘must buy list’. June could get expensive, but they are always worth the cost.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Susy, I certainly know how you feel!
Bek says
Oooooohhhh…Two new book series to check out! SIGH…six bookcases is NOT gonna be enough…I THINK I can fit an extra two in the bedroom!
LOL, ya know, when I finally do someday “shuffle off this mortal coil,” SOMEONE who has to go through about 2,000 books, MOST of the Cozy Mystery finds, is gonna say, “I’m going to strangle someone over this!” I promise not to leave your name lying around! Thank you for the wonderful hours of pure reading joy this site has brought to me.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Bek, I hope you find the extra space somewhere!
Susy says
Bek, I know the feeling. There is only one room in our house without AT LEAST one bookcase, including the dining room. Since my husband is just as bad, we are looking at adding about 2000 square feet of space when we retire. We plan on having an actual library, but I am sure there will still be bookcases in may other rooms.
My niece already know that she will have to dispose of her mom’s library and mine. Clearly collecting large numbers of books is in my DNA.
Bek says
LOL…I have 3 now, 3 more on order, and I think I can fit at least 3 in the master bedroom. The bookcases are in the “guest room,” which also functions as an office/library (I put guests in the master, and sleep with my books and my computer, thankyouverymuch!) AND when I get the electric fireplace out of layaway, I can flank that with two more shorter bookcases, one for DVDs and one for excess books. After that, I’m sunk!
Susy says
Bek, I’m lucky that we have a large home and just two of us. Our ‘living room’ has seven or eight bookcases and the dining room has one. The guest room and master each only have one, but my office has two and my sewing room has three. I have never counted how many my dear hubby has in his man cave, but it is probably somewhere between 8 and 12. As you can see, we share a serious addiction. We even met because of a large used book sale in Arizona. At least three of my siblings have significant book storage issues as well and none of us are willing to go strictly e-books, though I have over 1000 of those as well. We (especially me) really are a sick family!
Bek says
Although I see a place for ebooks, there is NOTHING like holding a REAL book in your hands. It’s the heft, and turning the pages, and hugging it to you when you read the really good bits! I may get an e-reader for traveling, but I must have my print books!
How lucky you are to have a large house! I live in a fairly small apartment, although it’s a good bit better than the one I was in prior to this one. At least there is a spare bedroom here, and room for BOOKS!
Susy says
I have certainly been there. I remember when I bought my first house. One of the major considerations was how much room there was for books. I like lots of windows, but sometimes I will sacrifice windows for shelves. The last time I lived in an apartment, all of the inside walls had bookcases. They help muffle the noise from the neighbors.
Melissa says
You writers are in a conspiracy to kill my bank accounts!
Susy says
Melissa, I have a specific budget amount for books. Since we don’t watch TV, the amount we would spend on cable is our book allowance. We still buy a lot used to stay within budget, but some I just can’t wait until I can find them used. I have also been told I am hard to buy gifts for, so I now give different family members list of books I want that are coming out in hardcover. This helps my budget and we are both happy at gift giving holiday time.
Terrym says
Some great authors that I haven’t read for awhile. Lee Hollis, Victoria Houston and Maggie Sefton.
