“A Very Woodsy Murder” by Ellen Bryon will be released on 7/23.
I’m sooooo looing forward to it. 🙂
HOWEVER, did you get your advance copy to read it? I didn’t either. 🙁
BUT, BUT BUT, the Cozy Caper’s Book Group in Maddie Day’s latest book, “Murder at Rusty Anchor”(released June 25) were reading it for their weekly selection. This was mentioned on page 55. It was again mentioned on page 103 as “Mac” (lead character) was reading it by her fireplace. It was even AGAIN mentioned some pages later. That’s THREE times!!
HUH? How is it possible they all had ‘advanced copies’ of this book to read a MONTH before it was released. 😏
I know, I know…………”anything” can happen ‘in fiction’ and I’m being facetious 🙂
HOWEVER, I was REALLY CURIOUS why this author (Edith Maxwell/Maddie Day) mentioned this book three times in one story — and even one that has yet to be released! What a promotion. They must be GREAT friends.
NOW, I”M wondering — will Ellen Bryon mention Maddie Day’s book in her new release? Will there be a ‘book club’ in this series? Will there be a ‘tit for tat’. 🙂
I think I’ve read all of Byron’s books. I doubt she mentioned any books in the Catering Hall series or the Vintage Cookbook series. I suppose it was possible in the Cajun Country series.
Just so you all know, I would have read Byron’s new book even if it wasn’t promoted in Day’s latest release. Of course, I don’t mind that it was promoted, just thought it was SOOOO weird done before it was released — mentioning it three times was a bit ‘much’.
A footnote: In a write-up for this book, Maddie Day left comments about this book under a section called “Praise for this Book’. Several authors also left comments, including Jenn McKinlay, Darci Hannah, and Lee Hollis.

MJ, well, it would certainly be on topic for a ‘book club’ series to include mentions of other Cozies, thought it would be a bit more unusual for a series about a motel owner to mention other books prominently!
As a side note, I don’t get advance review copies either – they have actually been offered by several authors, but I don’t really consider myself a ‘reviewer’ and would feel uncomfortable accepting free books.

As I said, I was just being facetious in my comments! I thought it was weird that a book was mentioned several times as a reading selection (albeit in a ‘fictional’ setting) which wasn’t even released yet.
I, in no way, meant to be critical (just trying for ‘humor’). A specific cozy or author are often mentioned in various cozy stories. In fact, I just finished a book where Susan Wittig Albert was mentioned (as a favorite author of the protagonist)
It was just that this situation was ‘different’. It won’t make any difference to those reading this book in August or thereafter because Byron’s book will have been released. 🙂
Of course, I don’t get advance copies, either. No one even knows who I am. Again, in jest, I made that particular comment to everyone.
BTW, Danna, thanks for providing a forum for us to make our various comments! This blog is one of my favorite ‘reads’.

Hi MJ! Edith got a very early read on the book – before it was even an ARC, when it was a file-turned-PDF – because I asked her to blurb the book. It’s funny, it didn’t occur to either of us that her book where she mentioned WOODSY would come out first, lol.
BTW, I told Edith my idea of having a vintage cookbook in my Vintage Cookbook Mystery series feature recipes from a restaurant in one of her series, and she loved the idea. Thanks for the inspiration!
Ellen Byron says
Hi, Ellen here! I hope it’s okay that I jump in. First of all, thank you SO much for your reading support, MJ! I don’t know why you didn’t get your advance copy – or if Danna didn’t, why she didn’t either. If there’s ever a problem, please feel free to alert me by contacting me through my website contact page. I’ll do what I can to help out. (BTW, I requested an advance copy of Alyssa Maxwell’s next Gilded Newport Mystery and I never received it – and Kensington is my publisher!)
As to Edith/Maddie giving me a shout-out in “Rusty Anchor,” that was a complete surprise! Edith is a friend and we support each other whenever possible. I’m afraid there’s no book club in my series, but you just gave me an idea for the next Vintage Cookbook Mystery I write. I think there will be a vintage cookbook featuring recipes from the Rusty Anchor – and the cookbook author will be Maddie Day!

I wanted to make this comment in a separate post from my previous one. This post doesn’t really belong here, but I didn’t know where else to put it.
Yesterday I was wondering if Kate Collins authored a new addition to the Goddess of Greene St. series. I REALLY, really enjoy this series. Sadly there isn’t a new release this year. 🙁
HOWEVER, in my search for this information, I discovered she released another book (#21) in the Flower Shop series.
It’s “Roses are Dead, Violets are Blue”. It was released February 13, 2024. I looked back at the ‘2024 February New Releases’ and it’s not listed on this site. Nor is it listed under Collins name on the ‘Cozy Mystery List’. I thought I’d mention it for all the Kate Collins Fans. It’s available in paperback, audio, and kindle.

Hi – just an FYI that A VERY WOODSY MURDER launches on July 23rd.

Ellen, thank you for mentioning that, and for writing Cozies!

Thank you!!! I was so worried. I LOVE this site. You know it’s been my go-to since I began my journey. It’s the first site I discovered and the first site I go to when I have a new premise I want to make sure someone hasn’t already done!

Susy, thanks, I’ve added this to the post.

Thanks, Susy! Danna’s on it, lol.

Is there some reason you didn’t post my comments about ‘A Very Woodsy Murder’?
If you don’t want to post it, that’s fine. I just thought it was a bit weird.
You don’t have to post this, either. I was just curious.

MJ, I’m sorry about that – I’ve been having a lot of trouble with comments lately, particularly ‘spam’ comments, so my son has been trying to get a better spam filter working, but it has been proving a bit too ‘aggressive’. I’m not sure why but that particular comment seems to have been caught in the spam filter.
