This is from a letter I sent out in 2011:

The person Jesse shot was the lowlife former orderly at the drug rehab place who got the young girl hooked on drugs, and later pimped her out. We don’t know how Jesse woke up and figured he was coming to kill Jesse, but somehow Jesse knew and shot him. The boxing-mafioso had left a message on his cell phone, but Jesse didn’t get phone reception at his house unless he went out on the point… so I still wonder how he knew the lowlife was outside. Anyway, that’s what my husband and I thought it looked like. (Also, we rewound and froze on the dead man’s face.)

    Kathy and Ron,

My husband and I watched the latest Jesse Stone movie last night (Innocents Lost), and agree that the pacing is a little different than the other Jesse Stone movies. (The movie seemed to use a lot of the time showing us Bridge Over the River Kwai and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.) But, we both liked it… perhaps not as much as the earlier ones.

As for the ending, I thought they wrapped the mystery up pretty well, although I thought the ending was a little “plunked down”… sort of an “oh, oh, we only have only five minutes left, we had better wrap this up” type of an ending.

I too felt this Jesse Stone movie had a much different feel to it than all the others. I wasn’t really impressed. LOVE Tom Selleck but really was disappointed with the disjointed story line of this. I walked away very confused and felt like I had NO closure. And…couldn’t figure out for the life of me who that was laying there at the end. I don’t think it was the Russian. I thought it was the police chief (leaving things open for Jesse to get his old job back), then I thought it was Suitcase/Luther! But of course, that didn’t make any sense. This just wasn’t up to par with all the other Jesse Stone movies!

Val would have been the most obvious one behind the night vision mask at the end, but I thought his hair was way too dark. The Val we saw earlier was almost a blond, wasn’t he?

It was Val (the Russian guy who was pimping the girls). Someone had mentioned in another question about cell reception. No he didn’t get Gino’s message but being so keen on noises, he was sure to hear the guy when he cut the circle in the glass and entered the house. As for Val’s hair being darker, remember he was in a house dimly lit with that stupid helmet so the hair would look darker. But that’s the person who got shot. Jesse made him look like a fool when he beat on him in front of the girl then had him sitting in his underwear taped to the chair. As Gino called him, Russian mob wannabe

Just was searching the web to see if others were as let down by this one as I was. All the others have been exemplary but something was so off about this one. I lay it all at the feet of the director – this was the first installment to use a different director. Robert Harmon did the previous 6 movies and they REALLY need to get him back. Like REALLY need him back.

Thank you, Dave F, for letting us in on the new Jesse Stone movie director. That would explain why more time was spent on Jesse watching old movies, and looking pensive a lot of the time, rather than showing us more airtime on “regulars” like Suitcase and Rose.

    *******SPOILER ALERT*******

Jesse was tipped off by the intern working at the rehab mill, ‘Tranquility,” about a former employee there named ‘Val’ who was fired from the facility for taking advantage of patients.
This was further expounded upon by Gino Fish when he secretly messaged Jesse and told him about Val being the person Jesse was looking for—a Russian mob wannabe who worked as a pimp for young prostitutes. After Gino tells Jesse this, Jesse rents the hotel room in Val’s name and sets him up by posing as a customer for one of his prostitutes. Jesse overpowers Val, lets the prostitute go, and tapes a near-nude Val to a chair in order to humiliate him while telling Val that he needs to quit pimping. Later Gino is told in a whisper by an unknown character that Val knows who Jesse is, and Gino leaves a message on Jesse’s cell phone. The last scene in the movie involving the gunfight showed VAL, the Russian wannabe mobster/pimp, wearing night vision goggles and breaking into Jesse’s house. Jesse was ready for him, and Val ended up getting shot to death. Watch the movie closely. It’s clear as day!

You are mistaken about who was wearing the night vision goggles and was killed. It was the intern at Tranquility. He had blue eyes and dark hair longer than Luther. It wasn’t Val because he had grey hair.

As far as I’m concerned, a movie like this is junk because there is no resolution. It is very unsatisfying because you don’t really know what happened. The director must be stuck in the ’70s.

Though I could be remembering it all wrong now >>>I know it made sense when I saw the actual show >>> after we reversed several times… (I believe you are saying the culprit was who we said it was… the Russian orderly at Tranquility who Jesse Stone tied up in the hotel room.)

I did give my opinion, Jaydublyew, which is also my answer. As for “someone who knows the answer” I guess you’d have to contact someone on the production crew who was on the movie set, or maybe even Tom Selleck to know absolutely/positively who Jesse had shot.

When I watched the end of the movie I too thought that it was Valkerie that was wearing the goggles, but it didn’t sound like that was the name that Stone said when he told that character he was going to die??? Was rather hoping that it was the police chief as he was definitely up to no good throughout the movie…
