Two days ago, Linda S asked for help (on behalf of herself and her mom) in identifying the following Cozy Mystery:
… One quick question…we both enjoyed a series where the young woman lived with her three “retired from the mob” uncles that was, I believe, set in Chicago. We haven’t read one in a while and, unfortunately, neither one of us can remember who wrote the books. Is that, by any chance, enough info for you to identify the author? I looked through your list by themes but nothing jumped out at me. Between the two of us, we have literally read hundreds of cozies & after a while, it’s difficult to remember “who’s on first” when it comes to specifics.
I appreciate your thoughts on that particular author. If she doesn’t sound familiar, I will continue to look.

YES, I think the book series with the Mobster Uncles is Victoria Abbott’s Book Collector Mystery series, which I believe is set in upstate NY; the fourth book in that series is due out in early September. The protagonist has several Mob uncles that help her out when she’s solving mysteries involving book collectors of or books by classic mystery writers (Christie, Sayers, Wolfe, and the fourth mystery’s subject – books by Ngaio Marsh). The Uncles may be Mobsters, but they all are very pleasant, interesting characters and adore their niece. I enjoy this series and have pre-ordered the mystery coming out next month.

I THINK this might be a series I recently read. Unfortunately can’t remember the author either. However the main character ends up moving in with an eccentric old lady to help her find a missing book. I thought it was set in New York though. I was thinking there were only 2 books in the series. If this sounds right let me know and I might be able to find author name.

I agree with Pam I think it’s Victoria Abbott’s A Book Collector series. The main heroine is Irish and has her three uncles that raised her.

Victoria Abbott is the author you want. The fourth book in the series is The Marsh Madness, coming out September 1. Hope this helps. I love this series with all its twists and quirky characters.

I wasn’t familiar with this series but after reading your joint comments just ordered the first book of the series. I just read that this series takes place in Harrison Falls, NY. If anyone knows of a cozy series set in Chicago, besides Paretsky, please let me know.

I looked for several hours Sunday looking for the same scenario. I finally found Victoria Abbot’s A Book collector mystery that is probably the series she is looking for.

Ok, I agree with everyone else — EXCEPT — I don’t recall that the uncles in Victoria Abbot’s series being “retired from the mob” — as I recall, they’re all petty criminals of one sort or another — and not retired either! I’d be curious to know if there’s another series Linda S. could be thinking of?

Not every gangster lives in Chicago! Agree, it really has to be Abbott’s series. The uncles are worth the read.

Off the subject for a moment_ Saturday, August 29th at 8pm on the Hallmark Channel-Cedar Cove, episode 6-Debbie Macomber, the Series author, is schedule to appear tonight from what the Author told me. I am a fan ambassador of Debbie’s since the ambassador program started. It is more than likely, that she will appear on tonight’s episode. She has 3 lines and is a character from the program but not her writing. She will play Mrs. Carol, a lady who won a prize on the radio and didn’t receive it. She will be in front of Judge Olivia Lockhart. It is possible but not likely that this part of the episode will air on the 8th episode but Debbie felt that it would be this week. So all you Debbie fans, heads up. Should this info be not correct, I got it from Debbie herself. If Hallmark told her incorrectly, you can still try to catch the 8th episode. If it doesn’t air tonight, that week (two from now) is the episode she was told that she appeared in. Sorry about the confusion-just passing it on.
