Cozy Mystery News – May 2019

News is a little lighter this month than some – just three authors, but they’re all good ones!

First up, Lynn Cahoon will be starting a new Cozy paranormal mystery series, which should be at least three entries. It will take place in Sun Valley, Idaho, and the star will be running a catering business in an old haunted school. Cahoon is also the author of the very popular Tourist Trap Mystery Series, starring Jill Gardner, a coffee house/book store owner in South Cove California. Lynn also writes the Cat Latimer Mystery Series, starring a sleuth who used to be an English professor – but now is a bed and breakfast owner in Colorado. She also writes the Farm-to-Fork Mystery Series which stars the owner of a farm to table restaurant in Idaho.

Next, Sarah Graves will be continuing her Death by Chocolate Mystery Series with at least three more entries, the first of which will be titled Death by Chocolate Snickerdoodle. The Death by Chocolate Mystery Series is itself a continuation of the Home Repair Is Homicide Mystery Series. Jake (Jacobia from the Home Repair Is Homicide series) is now the owner of a bakeshop. And for those of you who enjoy Cozies with recipes: the Death by Chocolate series has them! Also, those of you who enjoy the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel’s movies, the Home Repair movies are in that line-up. Sarah Graves also writes a suspense crime thriller series called the Lizzie Snow Mystery Series.

Finally, Mary Ellen Hughes will be adding a new moniker : Emmie Caldwell. Those of you who miss the Needlecraft Mystery Series that Monica Ferris wrote, you’ll be super happy to see that as Emmie Caldwell she will be writing a new series of at least three books starring a knitting enthusiast and a knitting circle in Crandalsburg, Pennsylvania. Yahoo for those of us who enjoy needlecraft Cozies! Mary Ellen Hughes is the author of the Keepsake Cove Mystery Series, the Pickled and Preserved Mystery Series, the Craft Corner Mystery Series, and the Maggie Olenski Mystery Series.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this entry, there aren’t a lot of authors but there sure is a lot of good news this month!

        • Hmmm. I haven’t picked up any Lynn Cahoon books before, though I have often though they looked interesting. There is something about paranormal cozies that just appeals to me. Maybe it is the idea that our reality isn’t all there is.

    • I’m in LOVE with Sofie Kelly’s Magical cats mysteries – her 2 cats have special powers. I’ve read all up to TALE OF TWO KITTENS 3 times!! Waiting for the book store to get that one in I haven’t read any of those others listed but if you love cats you’ll love Sofie Kelly’s books!

  2. On May 7th the 11th book in the Cupcake Bakery Mystery series “Dying for Devil’s Food” by Jenn McKinlay was released.

    On May 28th the 3rd book in the Daisy Tea Mystery series “Murder with Cucumber Sandwiches” by Karen Rose Smith will be released.

    • If I ever made any of the recipes that sound interesting, my husband would have to roll m around in a wheel barrow. Fortunately, I love
      the recipes, but not so much the actual cooking.

      I seem to be disappointed when a book ends without recipes.

  4. Cozy is my thing. I always have at least 2 series on hand and love to pass them on. Wish I could find someone who loves them and would like to trade. Now I am starting on ‘A Haunted Vintage Mystery ‘ series by Rose Pressey.

    • Lady Eagle, it would be nice to be part of a local group that could trade around used books! Personally, I used to go to a lot of used bookstores, so it definitely would have cut down on book purchases then. These days, I probably read too many Kindles for that sort of thing to work.

    • Ladyeagle, I think with The Cozy Mystery List Blog, you shall have no problem finding someone with whom to trade Cozy Mysteries, or with passing them on to another fellow Cozy Mystery fan.

  5. A new paranormal cozy… AND a knitting circle cozy?! That’s my kind of news!!! Also, as an English major going for my teaching credentials, I must check out Cat Latimer, pronto!
