Here’s the Cozy Mystery news for this month, August 2018! It’s a bit less NEWS than the last few months – but there’s still plenty to talk about!
First, Susanna Calkins will be writing a new series, the Speakeasy Murders Mystery Series, starting with Murder Knocks Twice. This will be a series set in 1920s Chicago. I wonder if it will revolve around the prohibition theme! Susanna Calkins also writes the Lucy Campion Mystery Series (which I happen to enjoy a lot!) – another period piece set in 17th century London, starring a chambermaid.
Next, best-selling Amanda Flower will be beginning a spin-off of her Amish Candy Shop Mystery Series, with the series titled the Amish Matchmaker Mystery Series. It will star a senior sleuth who is an Amish widow who sets up Amish couples. Of course, she will also solve crimes. In addition to the already-mentioned Amish Candy Shop Mystery Series, Amanda Flower writes the Magic Garden Mystery Series, the Living History Museum Mystery Series, the Magical Bookshop Mystery Series, the Appleseed Creek Mystery Series, the India Hayes Mystery Series, and the Andi Boggs Mystery Series (for children). She writes the Amish Quilt Shop Mystery Series under the name Isabella Alan.
Finally, New York Times best-selling author Lee Goldberg will be starting a new mystery series starring a young female homicide detective in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Lee Goldberg wrote the FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare Mystery Series (with Janet Evanovich), the Ian Ludlow Thrillers, the Diagnosis Murder Mystery Series, and of course the Mr. Monk Mystery Series (starring Adrian Monk, from the TV show Monk – which he also wrote and produced).
Well, it might not be as long a news list as usual, but if you want to find out more about what some of your favorite Cozy Mystery authors will be releasing in the near future, be sure to check out the Soon to be Released page on my Cozy Mystery site. I’m guessing you’ll find that several of your favorite Cozy Mystery authors are planning on releasing new Cozies in the near future! (And, it looks like October is going to be a great month for new holiday Cozies!)

Thank you for this! I appreciate it. I do bring in a lot of different aspects associated with the Prohibition, trying to catch different aspects of this time period (showing boozy and temperance perspectives). My protagonist is Gina Ricci, a cigarette-seller/cocktail waitress, who has just started working at the Third Door (replacing her predecessor who died under mysterious circumstances). I think it will be out in April 2019! thank you! (and I’m excited about Amanda’s book too!)

Susanna, you’re welcome, and thank you for writing another interesting looking mystery series! I know I’m not alone in my passion for the era, since in many ways it was a “golden age” of Cozy Mysteries.

‘Speakeasy Murders’ definitely sounds like a prohibition theme to me. I’ll have to make a note of those, I love books in that era, for some reason!
Thanks, Danna! 🙂

Susan, so do I! So many great Cozy Mysteries take place in the era… though often, as in the case of Agatha Christie’s early Poirot works, not because they were intended as “period pieces”, but because they were written then.
