Janie says
I am going to recommend the Barbara Block mysteries (Isis Crawford). They are set in Syracuse, New York, if I remember correctly. They are cozy, but a little darker. Interesting plots and a good main character. I also highly recommend the Captain Lacey mysteries, set after the Napoleonic war with France. These have always been my favorite historical mysteries. The author has made a deal with a new publisher that insists she needs to raise kindle ebook prices, so snap them up why you can.

Janie, I’ll second this recommendation! She’s arguably more well known as Isis Crawford nowadays, but her work as Barbara Block is also definitely worth a read.
Janie says
I was so disappointed when she quit writing that series. They were hard to find. I got most of mine from a used book store and the last two from Amazon. I found Isis Crawford after I got my kindle. I have only read one of them. I should try another one.

I came across this site, recently when surfing around. https://www.bargainbooksy.com/read/genre/cozy-mystery/ I don’t have a kindle, myself, so I haven’t tried it but I thought I might put it out for anyone who would like to.
It’s not all cozies, some appear to be much darker crime novels, but it might be worth sorting through.

This site has a “sister” site too…

Danna.
Do you know whatever happened to P J Alderman? I read Haunting Jordan and Ghost Ship when they were first published. Both books were enjoyable. Then nothing.
???
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Sheila, I’m afraid I don’t know. I assumed that she only wrote a few books, and decided not to continue.
Janie says
I don’t know, I read both of her Port Chatham mysteries and for long time looked for sequels. I have no idea whay happened to her.
Janie says
No, she just disappeared. I read both of her Port Chatham books and loved them. I tried her other series, but didn’t care for it. If you liked the Port Chatham mysteries, you might try the Ghost of Granny Apple’s mysteries, by Sue Ann Jaffarian.
