TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES CHANNEL MYSTERY MOVIES – January 2026

December 21, 2025

Happy (almost) 2026! It always seems like just when I get used to the year’s date, it’s time to learn a new one! Oh well, at least I’m not writing a lot of things (like the “old days” checks) that require actually writing the year…

There are a few things I want to tell you that fall in the category of “Cozy Mystery” movies:

For one, the Turner Classic Movies channel will be showing The Thin Man mystery movies on New Year’s Day. They used to show them starting on New Year’s Eve, and I know a lot of you looked forward to watching them then. So, since I think they skipped showing them last year, some of you will be happy to know they will be back — a few hours later.

Another Cozy Mystery movie item is that the Turner Classic Movies channel will be showing the mystery movies based on Stuart Palmer’s Hildegarde Withers books on Thursday, January 22. I have seen all of the movies (which the channel will be airing in their correct sequence) but will tell you that if you are only going to watch three, make sure they are the first three (Penguin Pool Murder, Murder on the Blackboard, and Murder on a Honeymoon). These three include one of my favorite actresses from the 1930s — Edna May Oliver. She is absolutely terrific to watch, and I think her portrayal of Miss Withers is … (to use the word again!) terrific! James Gleason is really good as the long-suffering detective she teams up with, and he is in all seven of the movies.

The third thing I want to bring to your attention is that all four of the Miss Marple movies that star Margaret Rutherford will be airing right after the Turner Classic Movies channel airs the Hildegarde Withers movies. I know I’ve mentioned several times (possibly several dozen times!) — don’t expect to see the Miss Marple we all know from Agatha Christie’s books!

And the last thing is that there will be four movies based on Leslie Charteri’ The Saint mysteries sprinkled in the airing list of this month. The first will be The Saint in New York with Louis Hayward as Simon Templar. The other three will air on Friday, January 16 and star George Sanders as The Saint.

So, without further ado… Here are the mystery and/or crime movies the Turner Classic Movies channel will be showing during January 2026:

A Christmas Romance (not a mystery movie)

December 9, 2025

A Christmas Romance I think I told you all about the James Garner/Julie Andrews non-mystery Christmas movie last year. I love “One Special Night“. I definitely recommend watching it during the holiday season.

Well, this year I want to point out the 1994 television move “A Christmas Romance.” It’s another non-mystery, but it’s another feel-good Christmas movie.

“A Christmas Romance” stars Olivia Newton-John and Gregory Harrison. Harrison stars as the banker who goes to foreclose on a widow with children. Unfortunately he is stranded the her house during a snowstorm.

Of course, the movie wouldn’t be complete without the banker’s girlfriend arriving at the house…

This is a feel-good Christmas movie that I enjoyed a lot. You may enjoy it too!

P.S. I’m sorry, but I forgot to tell you that this movie is like One Special Night. It’s available on Prime. I just looked both of these movies up on YouTube, and I’m happy to tell you that it looks like they are both available to watch there…

Here is the last 2025 Turner Classic Movies schedule of the mystery and crime movies they will be airing. It’s hard to believe the year is almost over!

I know this is a mystery blog, but I have (as usual ever December) annotated the Christmas movies that I was able to find. I want to tell you about a few that I think are so good that you probably won’t want to miss them: Christmas in Connecticut (1945), The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942), Desk Set (1957), The Shop Around the Corner (1940), and The Bishop’s Wife (1948). These are movies that I tend to watch every year.

TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES CHANNEL MYSTERY MOVIES – November 2025

October 28, 2025

After posting many Turner Classic Movies channel monthly lists of the mystery and crime movies they air during the month, I have come to expect certain things to happen during October, November, and December. I know I mentioned last month that I love the old black and white “Dracula/Frankenstein” movies the channel shows each October. And, I think I mentioned last December that I was surprised the channel wasn’t airing all of the Thin Man movies on the 31st – to take us into the next year. Well, this November I am surprised that I didn’t find a lot of Christmas movies airing during the month. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the channel used to sprinkle several Christmas themed movies during November.
