A Sad Farewell to Lea Wait…

August 14, 2019

I have some really bad news to tell you about… Lea Wait (aka Cornelia Kidd) passed away this past Friday. Her death will be a great loss to the Cozy Mystery world. All of her series (Mainely Needlepoint, Shadows Antique Print, and Maine Murder Mystery) are very, very popular for many of us.

Lea Wait wrote a blog entry for the Maine Crime Writers website over a year ago in which she described finding out about her pancreatic cancer. Here is the link to this blog entry:

My Crazy Health Update

Goodby, Lea Wait — Cozy Mystery readers have suffered  a loss. Thank you for all your books. We will miss you.

Such a brave, strong, woman. She met her challenges with grace and courage and taught us how to live. God rest, Lea. “May you keep safe in the gentle, loving arms of God.”

What sad news. I just discovered her books a couple of months ago and she swiftly became a favorite; a small consolation that I have so many more to read.

I discovered Lea’s books right before she announced her diagnosis. I loved the intros of antique samplers and information on the women and girls who create them in the Maine Needlepoint series. Will miss her books.

This is so upsetting but thank you for breaking the sad news to us.

Having just read Lea’s blog, it reminds one of just how wonderful her writing was – even on such a poignant and personal topic.

Condolences to Lea’s relatives and friends and R.I.P to Lea herself. xxx

I haven’t read any of her books yet, but this breaks my heart. She’d just lost her husband & then suffers through pancreatic cancer, chemo, a broken ankle and a heart attack all in the last year of her life. On the other hand, I’m absolutely blown away by all that she managed to accomplish in that year despite pain, sickness, chemo and all the other obstacles. I’m so very sorry that she’s gone.

I’ve been a reader of her books from her very first one out and, with so very many others, am going to miss her terribly. I’ve a “gift” of being able to re-read over and over again my favorites and in this case feel fortunate for that gift. She will be missed by many!

Lea Wait series were always preordered as I knew about the latest one. When it arrived it to “read immediately” status. Will miss her writing but most of all her courage, strength, and compassion.
