Updating the Holiday Mysteries Pages on the Cozy Mystery Site…

August 23, 2013

I have been busy “behind the scenes” getting the holiday pages updated and in a more orderly format. I know, I know! It’s way too early to be thinking about the holidays, or is it?!?

Around here, as soon as children return to school, the stores down-size their school supply merchandise and start pushing their Halloween items. And with school starting in just a few days (Monday) that means we’ll have more than two months to “enjoy” the Halloween items.

I say “enjoy” rather skeptically. As a home with diabetes, the all-too-often and all-too-present large bags of chocolate bars greeting me at the entrance of almost all the stores is rather tempting. I say tempting because I know all too well that we simply can’t have it in the house. (Chocolate is simply a red light item for ALL of us, those with and without diabetes!)

Getting back to my “behind the scenes” goings on >>> I am just about finished updating and consolidating the different Holiday pages. ย I have added more books and holiday themes, although I’m not quite finished yet. (I am thinking about adding a Birthday mysteries list, although I’m not 100% sure.)

The one draw-back of updating the lists is that I am now starting on a holiday book that I have been wanting to read for a while, but that I tried to put off until the correct season. I have been wanting to read Margaret Grace’s Monster in Miniature for several months, but made myself save it until the Halloween season. Well, after all of these holiday titles, I simply could not hold myself back, and am (probably for the first time ever!) reading one of “my” holiday mysteries out of season. (Now you see how bad I am about foregoing my temptations!)

Thank you for all you do to make this the ‘bestest’ book blog ever!!

At Hobby Lobby they already have Christmas aisles, crafts, etc. Seeing Christmas items makes me feel pressured. You enjoy your Halloween book as probably the next time you go shopping you’ll see Christmas…in between we might see a few Thanksgiving items.

PamB, I made a quick run to my grocery store this morning, and they already have the Halloween outside decorations out. It’s currently 97* so I can use some mental tricks to make me think it doesn’t actually feel like the 99* they say it does.

(That reminds me, I haven’t been to my Hobby Lobby in a while! I better hurry or I’ll miss their Halloween displays.)

Just want to echo the thanks for all you do! I only really got into cozies a couple of years ago and this site has been absolutely the only and best resource. I love discovering all the new aspects and “subgenres.”

As for holidays, I swear they just took the Easter baskets away, didn’t they? I can’t keep up anymore.

Joshua, down here in San Antonio it is so hot (still!) that it feels like we should be just finishing up with Easter, and getting ready for pool weather.

What a gift this site is to me and, assuming, all others! Thank you for your work. On this subject, I have to say, I’m thrilled! And, yes, already seeing Halloween things out … for me, the holidays are never too early! Again, thank you!

Jackie C, I love browsing through the Michael’s and Hobby Lobby aisles once they get the Halloween things out. It seems like every year they come out with even more inventive decorations than the last year. It’s my only way I get even a little reminder of the yearly seasons we are missing.

Thank you, Brook B. I hope the holiday page is easier to navigate than what I had there before >>> where I had a lot of the holidays mixed into the major holidays they were close to calendar-wise.

Thank you ALL for your thank yous, but as my last comment says, this is getting embarrassing! I hope that the changes I made to the Holiday Mysteries theme main page help make it easier for people to zero in on the exact holiday they are looking for.
