This month is going to be a little different, since we have Halloween movies to enjoy. I know a lot of you enjoy Paranormal settings in your books, so I will be posting a special entry (in a few days) with the movies that feature Ghosts, Halloween/Horror, Vampires, and even one very early Christmas movie. For now, let’s just focus on the mystery movies that I have been able to find.
Here is the list of the mystery movies for the month of October 2014. I have gone through the Turner Classic Movies channel, as well as the PBS Masterpiece Mystery shows, and the Hallmark Movie channel mystery movies. I hope there are a few that you enjoy! (For those of you who have asked about the Jesse Stone mystery movies and the Mystery Woman mystery movies, please be sure to take a look at the bottom of this entry in the Hallmark Movie Channel section.)
As usual, if you know of any other mystery movie that will be airing during the month (October), please post a comment. We’d all love to know about it. Thank you!

Anne says
You might be interested in a Swedish
” Murder Mysteries” series that BBC Four is showing at the moment as its bound to be on DVD. The English title is “Crimes of Passion” and the stories are based on books written in the 5o’s by Maria Lange. The t.v. series is nothing like the Scandinavian Noir that we’ve all come to know and love. It’s filmed in high colour, the scenery is lovely, the men handsome and the women in pretty 50’s frocks. The plots are not bad – Maria Lange was a follower of Agatha Christie. There are always a couple of bodies but no gore (always a frank sex scene though and everyone smokes like mad.)
I think 2 of her books have been translated into English, she might be worth looking up.
I noticed “Marnie” is showing on yr list. Its a classic of course but what always sticks in my mind is reading a parody of it in “Mad” magazine when I was a kid!

Anne, thanks for the information about the Swedish television show called Crimes of Passion. I’ll have to try to watch for them.

It’s amazing – in some ways – how many of these classic movies are based on classic books! Lol!

Ive seen jesse stone and the mystery woman series fairly recently but looking forward to the new ones on hallmark and PBS. I wish they would make new ones of Jesse stone. I love that series. Thank you for listing these. I try to check Tom, hallmark and PBS often. I wonder if we can get crimes of passion on YouTube. I found rosemary and thyme series on there. An English series. They have Murdock too.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Eve, I’m guessing that since Tom Selleck is in Blue Bloods, that’s not going to happen any time soon. Hopefully I’m wrong.
Diane says
I know this is an older post but I watched the more recent version of The 39 Steps w/Rupert Penry-Jones. I really liked it. He is very handsome so all the better 🙂 Happy New Year to everyone!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Diane, I didn’t even know they had made a remake of The 39 Steps. I just looked it up, and I am guessing (from the cover of the DVD) that it’s set in today’s time. Interesting spin on it!
I hope you have a terrific New Year, too!
