Patti S. says
Love Kay Francis. She really was an overlooked actress. The movie she was in with William Powell was good. I really like her.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Patti S, you’re not kidding about Kay Francis being overlooked. I didn’t “discover her” until about five years ago, and I’ve been a fan of the old black & white movies since I was in highschool. I first noticed her in the movie In Name Only and I have been a fan of her’s since.
Julia says
Oh, I love In Name Only – it’s one of my favorite Cary Grant pictures. I remember seeing it air on TCM once, and Robert Osborne, in the introduction, said that if the movie had been made just a few years earlier, when Kay Francis was at her height of popularity and Carole Lombard was still working her way up the ladder, she would have played the role of Julie and Carole Lombard would have played Maida. It’s an interesting to speculate how different the film would have been.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Julia, hmmm… the actresses switching places has me thinking… (I love it when we’re lucky enough to see Robert Osborne introduce the movies.)
