It’s December again! Every year when I go through TCM’s December schedule I peak ahead to see if we will be seeing Myrna Loy, William Powell, and Asta do some crime-busting. This year is no different, as The Thin Man movies have almost become a December tradition. They’re the types of movies some of us want to watch every time they are on. What a delightful way for us Cozy Mystery lovers to ring in 2020!
And, this being December, I am going to include some of the old Christmas classics on the list of mystery movies that will be playing during December. For those of you who enjoy Christmas movies, not only will TCM be playing some, but the Hallmark and Lifetime channels will be playing lots and lots of them. (Just click here if you would like to see my entry about the Hallmark 2019 Christmas movies.)
If you’re a dog-lover, then you ought to check out TCM’s schedule for Wednesday, December 4. I’m an absolute dog-lover, however, I do NOT like movies that feature animals. For some reason, even though I know the movies are fictitious, I don’t like seeing any type of animal in perilous situations… which an “animal movie” usually has to have in order to create the everything-turns-out-great ending. Anyway, if you like movies that feature dogs, you might want to tune in to TCM that day. Also, Wednesday, December 11 is featuring horse movies and Wednesday, December 18 is featuring an assortment of different animal movies. (Ditto on why I won’t be watching any of them!)

KG says
Danna,
Thanks for the TCM December list. I see a few of my favorite Christmas movies. Do you know why they quit showing White Christmas? I noticed it wasn’t on their line up last year also.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
KG, I’m afraid I have no idea. I suppose they might have lost the television license for it… or just don’t want to show it. I don’t have any ties to TCM though, so I’m not sure.
Andrea TF says
I thought that I was the only oddball that felt that way about animal movies. It it also true of books, and a cruel scene in a novel can ruin it for me. Elizabeth George had a segment in one of her books about experiments using beagles, and I still get depressed thinking about it.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Andrea, yes, it can be unfortunate when a single scene puts one off of something they were otherwise enjoying, whether a movie or a book.
Ingrid says
Andrea, I share your view about animal movies and feel certain there are many of us who feel that way.
Andrea TF says
BTW, thank you for all you do. I have had hours of enjoyment reading and listening to audiobooks because of your efforts. Have a joyous holiday season and a healthy new year!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Andrea, you’re welcome, and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season as well!
Maureen says
Thanks for the TCM Christmas and mystery movie listings. It saves so much time searching for them. I particularly appreciate your personal recommendations!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Maureen, you’re very welcome, and I’m glad that my personal recommendations are as useful as my mystery ones!
Ingrid says
Danna, I would like to add my thanks for all your hard work and the time it takes you to make things easier for the rest of us. Thanks to you, I am less likely to miss new books from my favorite authors and have also found new writers whose work I enjoy. Happy Thanksgiving.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Ingrid, you’re welcome! I’m glad that my posts are helpful in finding new writers and keeping up with old favorites.
