I’m so excited that it’s already (almost) 2021! This past year has been a difficult year for all of us. Covid 19 has kept us all from celebrating our different holidays AND also from letting us visit with our extended families. What a colossal drag! Thank goodness for all of the hard-working pharmaceutical research scientists and the many, many essential workers!
It’s a good thing we have had our Cozy Mysteries to read and our mystery movies to watch!
Turner Classic Movies will be showing some movies this month that I want to point out. On January 20 (PM) and 21 (AM) the channel will be showing four Agatha Christie Miss Marple mystery movies starring Margaret Rutherford. These are very loosely based on Christie’s Miss Marple, as they are comedies. And speaking of comedies, I have listed the Judy Holliday movies as well as those with Doris Day and Rock Hudson. Those movies are not mysteries, but they are quite good.

Cathy Janus says
In Vertigo, the redwood forest they filmed in isn’t Muir Woods, it’s actually Big Basin State Park. This park (California’s first state park) sadly burned in the fires this year. The cross section of redwood Jimmy Stewart & Kim Novak stand in front of burned up along with all the buildings and many of the redwoods.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Cathy, that’s very sad to hear.
Greenway says
Horrible, horrible! I can’t stand to hear about the fires, though, like Covid and political insanity, some of it is unavoidable. Big Basin glows sacred, green and serene in my childhood family vacation memories; all the redwood and ‘cedar’ forests are sublime sacred places. I mourn also particularly for McKenzie Bridge, Oregon (up the river from the superb Carola Dunn’s adopted home in Eugene). The story of the holocaust to that living jewel box of a place included a cry from one of the state’s legislators: ‘When I first saw it, I never knew anyplace on Earth could be so beautiful!’
I truly believe that converting to free, clean energy (sun, wind, tide, ambient motion, etc.) and, among so many other things, using it to desalinize sea water and piping it all over needy places, is more important than even fighting plagues and neo-totalitarians.
Zarayna Pradyer says

I love all of the drama, suspense movies, and noir movies. I am 62 and I am sick and love TCM, especially suspense and dramas. Thank you so much!

Joy to the World! That’s what we need. Danna be blest for this community; God be thanked for all good and our dear authors in particular!
Quick trivia: The film THE BLUE DAHLIA came before the still-mysterious murder of Elizabeth Short, who afterward became known as the Black Dahlia. She bore a tattoo of a black dahlia; don’t know (though I’ve read several books on the case) whether the film inspired the tattoo.

Greenway, I hope you’re having a good holiday season! Thanks for the trivia as well!
Charmene says
Love cozy mystery books. Absolutely nothing better to me than a black and white murder mystery movie. The shadows in these movies are so neat. Wish TCM would show all the Sherlock Holmes movies. Love The Saint and Falcon movies.

Charmene, I’d love to see the Sherlock Holmes movies again sometime soon as well!
