Three New Cozy Mystery Series Coming April 2018

March 8, 2018

There will be three new Cozy Mystery Series starting in April 2018!

First up, Kathleen Bridge will be releasing Death by the Sea, the first in her By the Sea Mystery Series. Liz Holt is returning from New York City to her hometown of Melbourne Beach, Florida, to help run her family-owned hotel, the Indialantic by the Sea. A historic local landmark, the hundred-year old hotel is kept afloat in part by merchandise and in part by rich benefactors – but when one turns up dead, the hotel’s future may be in peril if the culprit can’t be found! Kathleen Bridge also writes the Hamptons Home & Gardens Mystery Series, starring a former home and gardens writer turned interior designer.

Next, Catriona McPherson will be starting the Last Ditch Mystery Series with Scot Free, which will introduce us to Lexy Campbell, a Scotland native planning to return home after her life in California and her marriage counseling business fell apart. But when her last client is accused of killing her husband with fireworks, she decides that she’ll need to stay in town long enough to convince the police that they can’t possibly have the right culprit. Catriona McPherson also writes the Dandy Gilver Mystery Series, starring an aristocrat in 1920s Scotland.

Finally, Denise Swanson will be releasing Tart of Darkness, the first entry in her Chef-to-Go Mystery Series. Dani’s career seems to be going nowhere when she unexpectedly inherits a large old house in a college town. Seeing this as a sign, she decides to take this as a chance to start again, this time pursuing her passion of cooking by opening Chef-to-Go, a service providing ready-made meals to college students. She also rents out some of the rooms in the house – which leads to trouble when a relative of a boarder is murdered! Denise Swanson also writes the Scumble River Mystery Series, starring a psychologist in Illinois, and the Deveraux’s Dime Store Mystery Series, starring the owner of a five-and-dime store in Missouri.

Bek, Since I love her other series, I will have to give this one a try. I am just VERY disappointed that it is only available as an e-book. I’s hoping that maybe it will be printed in a few months.

Me, too! I’m keeping an eye out in “Goodreads,” which is usually up-to-date on available editions.

What happened to All Brandon and her Black Cat Bookshop mysteries? They were very good and getting better. Hopefully they will come back or Hamlet will get a new series ( a very strong character).

George, unfortunately my understanding is that this series was dropped by the publisher. It isn’t impossible that it will resurface under a different publisher, but not likely either.

That’s sad, sad news. I’m a huge Hamlet fan, as well. AND I enjoyed Ms. Brandon’s way with quirky characters.

I have just finished Krista Davis’ Color Me Murder and it was really great. Good characters and story.

WOOOO! I am so jealous. I put it on my gift list for Christmas and my SIL is very slow about ordering. Maybe I will need to give her a subtle push today.

I need something to read! I have read every Agatha Christie book multiple times and I am hoping for something new. An easy to read cozy with servants in big house or suspicious villagers!

Bek – I was thinking the same thing! Although, since this series is being released only in eBook format (at least for now), it won’t take up any more shelf space. I prefer my books in print, but I don’t mind the occasional eBook if it’s something that interests me enough, and it’s the only option. Plus, I find it easier to take an e-reader on vacations.

There is a second book in this series, “A Killing by the Sea”, slated for release on September 25th. 🙂

Would you believe that I have THREE ebook programs on my laptop and have yet to get even ONE ebook? I’m just so addicted to the weight and heft of a book in my hands. If it’s a really good book, sometimes I hug it and laugh. I’ve even occasionally ~blush~ kissed the cover when finished. Ebooks, while a wonderful thing, are just not the same.

HOWEVER, since more and more are in that format, I really should figure out how to use the systems and get at least a few!

Bek, A good way to get your feet wet and check out a few authors that you may not have read before (DANGER, DANGER, WILL ROBINSON), is BookBub. They have many cheap and FREE e-books.

I carry a tablet computer when I travel, so this is a good time for me to check out new authors. It was also a great tool last weekend when I was without power for 18 hours. My tablet doesn’t put a big drain on it’s battery and I keep a couple of back-up power packs charge up all the time.

I’ll have to gather my courage and dip my toes in the ebook sea! I’m not quite a Luddite, but…let’s put it this way. It was a major triumph for me when I was able to open a new file, put stuff in it, and then FIND that file again! The sad thing is that my elder son is a cloud architect and designs software, and the younger son designs software (kinda like “The Sims”) that helps insurance actuaries assign risk. They shake their heads at me a LOT. Elder Son is linked to my computer via Team Viewer so that he can go in and fix anything I mess up.

Bek, I don’t know which apps you have, but I find the kindle is the easiest. I have also found that my laptop and desk top (even my android phone) are easier to use than the iPad. Not sure if this is because I use windows and android based systems all the time for work, or if iPad is just less compatible with anything not Apple.

Sometimes I really wish I had someone like your sons who could look at my computer and tell me what the problem is, or if my provider is just slowing me down again.

Anything by Catriona McPherson should be AMAZING! Her Dandy Gilver series has the most unusual and unexpected plot twists EVER!!! If you only read one book in your life, make it Dandy Gilver and the Proper Treatment of Bloodstains.

OH! Dana, I found a new series coming out, I believe in April (at least in ebook form). Jane Willan is the author, and the first book is her debut. It is “The Shadow of Death,” the first of her new Sister Agatha and Father Selwyn series. It’s set in a convent in Wales. The synopsis I read was charming, and I’m looking forward to being able to order a copy shortly! You might want to take a look at it.

Bek, I’ll take a look! I don’t generally add an author to the site until they have at least two books out (this actually cuts down on a lot of “one and done” authors that would otherwise be more effort than they’re probably worth to keep track of). That said, I’ll try to keep her on my radar!
