First book, as I remember it, plot is that a southern girl marries a Scottish man and they have an audience with the Queen. In a subsequent book, the girl returns to the states as her husband has disappeared from a research vessel in the Atlantic Ocean; she returns and I remember her brother is a character in the book. If it rings a bell, please let me know.

I’m certain about the author and the series, which I read in its entireity many years ago, but less so about the individual titles. Both books are part of the Elizabeth MacPherson series by Sharyn McCrumb. I think the two titles are The Windsor Knot for the marriage of Elizabeth and Dr. Cameron Dawson and MacPherson’s Lament for Elizabeth’s return after Cameron’s death.

Wow! this is fun. I never know who you are asking about, but I love reading the answers. You should make this a regular weekly addition to your blog. Maybe we could even submit a “Can you guess this book?” game and tell about a book we’ve read and let others try to guess what it is. I’m a collector of old books and acquired 10 today from 1884 to about 1910. What fun!
