Same Rant and Rave as Yesterday… Still No Mystery…

August 31, 2010

I feel like I have opened Pandora’s Box! Getting back to yesterday’s entry…

Same grocery store, about a month later… I usually put my groceries in the passenger’s side of my car, that way I can put the garage door down and not worry about Sprite making a mad dash for it. [I guess I now put the garage door down out of habit, our (+/-) 16 year old puppy isn’t dashing anywhere these days.]

I usually don’t even glance at the back of the car, but because I was buying quite a few large items this particular day, I decided to put them in the back. As I approached the back of the car to open the hatch, I was absolutely floored to see that someone had apparently hit the back of my car with a trailer hitch of some type. Good grief! With the deep impressions the trailer hitch left on my bumper, I am convinced that there is no way the culprit didn’t know about the damage he/she was doing as he/she apparently kept trying to back into my bumper.

Needless to say, there was no note on my windshield this time either! Good grief AGAIN!!! What ever happened to common decency?!?

Hmmm… I have to wonder if the drivers had their children in the cars as they made their quick get-aways… GREAT examples!!!

Danna: Leaving notes on cars went the way of the Dodo bird a long time ago. The cost of repair bills has a lot to do with it. My husband’s truck got bumper damage while it was sitting in our driveway (sometime during the night). He went to see about getting it repaired. It was going to cost $1000! Needless to say, he didn’t get it fixed. A month later, his bumper received more damage in a parking lot. Glad we didn’t get it fixed and never will.

People have no respect for their own things anymore let alone others!! I live in one of the biggest cities in the USA and am amazed when I see what have to be $50,000-$75,000 vehicles driving crazy, dodging in and out of traffic, cutting you off, just to get to the next light to be sitting one car in front of you or stuck at the next highway backlog just like me who is driving with extreme care treasurring my modest but nice car.

You know, it’s as if people have no respect whatsoever for someone’s property. And you’re absolutely right about if their children witnessed such a display – the expression ‘the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’ comes to mind. What a lesson to teach a young one. I’ve seen it in my own neighborhood with people walking down the street & tossing beer cans, coke cans, whatever into our ditch and the child right there copying their every move. I’m so sorry for the recent damage to your car. “What comes around goes around” … it will indeed catch up with them.

I had a similar experience. A grocery cart (we think) must have run amuck and hit the drivers side of my car and dented it good…or should I say badly. I think no fault insurance has played a part in this. Not to mention the policy costs.
Sorry you had that happen. I haven’t had the chance to get an estimate but I’m almost afraid to do it.

Laura, Dodo bird is a great example! Who would have thought that your husband was lucky that his bumper was hit the second time?!? Says a lot about our world, doesn’t it?

Sandra, sounds like you are driving a car like mine: “modest but nice.” I have had that very same thought many times… These are the same people who will cause an accident BEHIND them as they speed off….

Petie, I sometimes wonder what those very same people’s houses must be like…

Anne, no estimate here. I am not kidding when I say I’m going to get out the fine sand paper and touch-up paint. Of course, with the gouge in my back bumper, I’ll probably have to get some type of spackling stuff for cars. Good grief!

While we are complaining about thoughtless and restless people I will tell you that my poor old but wonderful 1999 GMC Jimmy with the greatest air conditioning (we live in Phoenix!!!) had all of the gas stolen out of it quite a few months ago, only had about $20 in it even, but it was in our driveway even! Well, because of them draining it completely and it having an electric ignition or whatever and having to prime it or whatever, it completely ruined the parts and estimate to fix is $550 plus a new battery now because it has sat and because it is 115 degrees here or more. It needs new tires since it has been sitting in the heat without moving!!!! My husband and I are on Social Security Disability (he has advanced prostate cancer that has now spread to his bones and bladder) and I have so many problems (even just had a total knee replacement OUCH!!!!). So of course we can’t afford to do any of this fix up….all because someone wanted $20 worth of gas!! I left a message on the gas tank cover and our HOA website for the losers that the next time they are so desperate, please just ring our bell and I’d rather hand them the $20!!!!!!! Gonna end up costing us close to $2000 I’d bet!!! Luckily we have another vehicle to drive to store and the many dr appts…..but no air conditioning!!! Sept 1st and it is 109 today!!! Ok, I’ve raved today! Better go take my blood pressure meds, LOL!!

    Hi Sandra,

I am so sorry to hear about your car… It makes my rant embarrassingly petty!. I love your solution about handing the culprits the $20 at your door.

It sounds like you and your husband are going through some truly difficult times. I will keep you in my thoughts…
