Lori Copeland, Elizabeth Corley, Veronica Heley, and Deryn Lake… Most Recent Four Mystery Authors Added to the Site…

October 10, 2009

I know that I say this every time I add new authors: These are mystery book authors who some of  you think should be added to the Cozy mysterysite.

The four most recent mystery book authors who I have added to the site are:

Lori Copeland: Morning Shade Mystery Series… features three generations of women sleuths who live in Arkansas… mother, mother-in-law, and daughter…

Elizabeth Corley: Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Fenwick Mystery Series… set in Sussex…

Veronica Heley: Ellie Quicke Mystery Series AND Abbot Agency Mystery Series… both feature widows who sleuth in/around London…

Deryn Lake (aka Dinah Lampitt): John Rawlings Mystery Series… has Sir John Fielding (the blind British magistrate who started the Bow Street Runners – the first British police force) and John Rawlings (a young apothecary) teaming up to solve crimes in 1700s England…

Cold, Howling Wind, Snow – Any Ideas of Mystery Books with Those Characteristics?

October 8, 2009

I got a letter from a cozy mystery book reader who wanted some help with the following theme. Right off the top of my head, I thought of Patrick Ruell‘s (aka Reginald Hill) Red Christmas. Can any of you think of others?

“I am wondering if you know of any new releases that have as their theme –at least in part –winter/cold/bad weather?

I know that probably most Christmas- themed mysteries would have snow, etc. as part of their story, but I’m interested in books that really use howling winds, winter, etc. as a key component? (I know that Diane Mott Davidson often has the weather as a key part of her drama, so that kind of book is good.)

I am in a writing class, and want to write a little essay about such books.

Any thoughts???
Many thanks!
Barbara”

So, if any of you have ideas on this cold/windy/snowy theme, please drop us a comment.

Camille Minichino/Margaret Grace (Free) Mini Miniature Drawing…

October 6, 2009

Hi all!

Camille Minichino/Margaret Grace just extended another very generous drawing, and I want to be sure to post it immediately! As all of you who read this blog know, I am a huge fan of both of her mystery book series: the Miniature Mystery Series (as Margaret Grace) AND her (Camille Minichino) Periodic Table Mystery Series.

Minichino/Grace posted this comment on the October New Mystery Book Releases page:

Nice to be included here! Thanks. And I’m bringing back my standard offer — if any of your readers would like to be entered into a drawing for a mini crime scene, email Camille@minichino.com with COZY LIST in the subject line.
Hope you enjoy Mourning in Miniature (High School Reunions can be murder!)

Halloween Mystery Books I'm Looking Forward to Reading…

October 5, 2009

It’s that holiday time of year again, and I am trying to line up my holiday books on my TBR (To Be Read) bookshelves. With our warm weather down here in San Antonio, I rely on my holiday mystery books to get me into the holiday frame of mind.

My Halloween new mystery book discovery is Kate Borden‘s Death of a  Trickster. I also have her Thanksgiving Cozy (Death of a Turkey) so I’m looking forward to being able to read them in their correct sequence.

I have already started stocking up on my Christmas mystery books… The holidays are the only time of year when I will read a book out of its correct chronological order. I am willing to “jump ahead” in hopes that the setting will provide enough snow and windy gusts to make me feel all “cozy” in my house. So, I have stocked up on Kate Kingsbury‘s Christmas mysteries.

I am also planning on trying a new author (to me, that is!) during the next three months. I read several reviews of Cyril Hare’s Christmas mystery book – An English Murder – and wondered how I had missed him!  I cannot wait!!!

I have lined up all of my Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas mystery books in one designated area of my bookshelves. Yes, I actually have designated areas for my different types of books! Some might call this obsessive/compulsive — I call it “being organized.”

Do you have any Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas mystery books that you are looking forward to “making you feel cozy” during the next three months?
