Cozy Mystery Books Recommendations – March 2012

March 24, 2012

As the month of March comes to a close, it seems like a good time to find out which authors you all have been enjoying this month. Since this is going to be the Cozy Mystery Books Recommendations for this month, please only tell us about the mystery authors who you have read this month, who you have ENJOYED. (Please don’t tell us about the authors you think we should stay away from!)

I always appreciate hearing about authors you all are enjoying, and know that it makes me more interested in trying new-to-me authors. I hope that being able to “hear” about Cozy Mystery authors from other Cozy Mystery readers will help some of us discover new authors to try.

What Cozy Mystery book (or author) have you read during March 2012, and why did you enjoy it (or him/her)?

(I’m still taking Cozy Mystery Books Recommendations for March 2012, but thought I would start making up the list of authors who you all have read and enjoyed during the month. I’ll be sure to add any more authors who are recommended. Please don’t forget to read the comments, though!)

British Male Sleuth Who Collects Toy Cars …

March 22, 2012

I am trying to go through some of the questions you all have sent me either by comments posted on the blog, or by letters. Here is another question from a Cozy Mystery site reader.

Julie asks:

“Have you heard of a cozy series, featuring a man who collects toy cars, Dinky toys? He has a couple of friends who help in his sleuthing. I read the books years ago, but can’t remember the author. The books are set in England.”

If you think you might know the author or the series, please post a comment.

Thank you!

PS>>> I just looked up Dinky Toys and found that they are little, miniature die-cast cars which were made by the British Meccano Ltd. company.

Sleuth Sister with Beer-Drinking Cat

March 21, 2012

Sue asked me the following:

“Hoping someone can help me. I’ve been searching for years for a book I read around 1969 or thereabouts. A woman goes in search of her sister, taking her cat with her. The cat likes a saucer of beer once in awhile. The woman develops pleurisy and has her ribs taped up. When she finally locates her sister, it turns out that the sister is *******. The woman might be a librarian (not sure) and she drives an old car (might be a Volkswagen, not sure).”

If you have any idea of who the author is, or the series, please post a comment.

Thank you!

PS>>> I had to look up “pleurisy” :” inflammation of the pleura, characterized by pain that is aggravated by deep breathing or coughing”

Which led me to have to look up “pleura” : “a delicate serous membrane investing each lung in mammals and folded back as a lining of the corresponding side of the thorax.”

I love this site:  http://dictionary.reference.com/

I substituted “*******” in Sue’s question. It stands for the ‘bad guy.’

Dicey Deere: Where Are You?

March 20, 2012

Isabella asked for help locating new books by Dicey Deere:

“So can someone please comment on what Dicey Deere is doing, and whether there is a chance of her writing anymore books.
I know that there are many authors out there, but I really love her writing and how the stories take place in Ireland.”

Does anyone know if Dicey Deere is writing under another name?
