Happy Easter! AND Happy Passover!

April 8, 2012

Happy Easter!

Happy Passover!

To me, Spring has officially begun, even though I know that technically, it began on March 20. The grass is turning green, the birds are chirping, and the squirrels are begging for more peanuts.

I hope everyone has a joyous and safe holiday!

Your Monthly Cozy Mystery Book Recommendations Are Ruining My Good Intentions!

April 5, 2012

Your monthly mystery book recommendations that you all have been telling us about have been terrific! So terrific, in fact, that I have now got a TBR list accumulating on my Kindle!

When I first got my Kindle for Christmas, I decided that I wouldn’t have a TBR “bookshelf” like I do for my “real” books. I have so many books in my bedroom’s bookshelf, that I decided I’d prefer to buy my Kindle mysteries after I finish reading one, rather than accumulate them.

Well, after reading your March recommendations, I bought six new Kindle books, to add to the five I bought after reading your February recommendations. Good grief! Here I go again, accumulating more books!

I just finished a Cozy Mystery book that one of you recommended, but I don’t think this author is going to be making my “favorite authors” list. I’m just not sure I like the main sleuth enough to follow her through several more books in this particular Cozy Mystery series. (I’m not trying to be “coy”>>> but you know how I feel about posting negative remarks.) There is just nothing that makes me want to spend more time with the sleuth. I have to admit that the only reason I finished (by “finished” I mean “skimmed through to the end”) the book is because I didn’t absolutely “hate” the sleuth, just didN’T like her.

Anyway, next month, when I accumulate the Monthly Cozy Mystery Book Recommendations for April, I am going to absolutely refuse to get any more Kindle books, and will simply make a list of the authors who look really interesting to me. At least, that will be my good intention…

Happy April!

April 1, 2012

“April come she will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain;“

Welcome to April! I can’t think of a better way to begin the month, than listening to Paul Simon’s April Come She Will song.

I remember my older sister had Simon & Garfunkel’s Sounds of Silence album (yes, I said “album”!!!) and I absolutely loved listening to it. (Thus my Peter, Paul and Mary enjoyment… along with the Cowsills!)

My older brother, on the other hand, brought “hard rock” into our home. Rolling Stones were BIG with him. So I sort of benefited from both of my older siblings’ musical preferences. From one end of the (folk music) spectrum to the hardest of the hard side. (Of course, the Rolling Stones of way back then were anything but “hardest” compared to today’s “hardest of the hard side”!)

Anyway, rather than take the April Fools stance for today, I decided to go back to my WAY back days, to the days when listening to my older sister’s and brother’s music was simply a way of life. So, Happy April, and

“April come she will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain;“

Los Angeles, San Francisco… That Is the Question…

March 30, 2012

A while ago, I got this letter from Suzanne asking for help in identifying an author who writes…. well, just let me post what Suzanne said:

“Hope I can get some help from someone…I cannot remember the name of the author or the main character in a police procedural series that I read a lot of, several years ago. I think the location was Los Angeles (or possibly) San Francisco. (Yes, my memory is a total blank on these things.) The main character is a white police detective with a black Jewish partner named “Abe”. The main character is married a second time to “ Fran” who is the sister of his business partner who owns a bar. Abe is into his second marriage after losing his first wife to cancer.

I know that this doesn’t fit the “cozy” category, but if anyone can give me some help with this I would be forever grateful. This is driving me nuts!!!

Thanks,
Suzanne”

So, again I am asking for your help. If you think you might know the name of the author who writes these mysteries, please post a comment.

Thank you!
