Easter Mystery Book List

April 8, 2014

I have been trying to find some more Easter Mystery Books so I could add them to my Easter Mystery Book List page. I think I have exhausted the possibilities, and would greatly appreciate it if you would take a look at the Easter list and see if I am missing a book that you know is an Easter themed mystery.

I was looking through the Easter mysteries and there were a few that stood out as books I wish I hadn’t already read. You know what I mean? Sometimes I wish I was just discovering an author so that I could enjoy reading all of her/his books all over again.

Our daughter called and said she is coming home for Easter, so we are all looking forward to that. I wish my mother wasn’t doing so poorly. She and my father used to drive down to San Antonio every year for two weeks during our Bluebonnet season. Sometimes that included Easter, as it would have done this year. (Oh well, what do they say about wishes? I guess I’d have a stable of horses in my back yard!) My sister is flying out to see my mother and our younger brother, so that will be nice for my mom. (We are going up in May.)

Anyway, if you happen to notice any Easter themed mystery books that I don’t have on the list, would you please post a comment? Thank you!

Passover Mystery Book List

April 8, 2014

Lest you all think I forgot, for those of you who are looking for Passover Mystery Books, I also have that theme. I should have mentioned it when I talked about my Easter themed mystery books, but for some reason I didn’t. Here is my Passover Mystery Book list. As with the Easter list, please let me know if you see any Passover mysteries that I am missing. Thank you!

We Came, We Saw, We Conquered…

April 6, 2014

Well, I’m not quite sure that we conquered, but we did do a lot of searching. We stayed downtown in New Orleans and drove out to the two areas where we concentrated our search for our daughter’s future apartment/home. She’ll only be in the area for a year, so we want to find a place where she can focus on enjoying the city rather than having to worry about safety. (Actually, being a young adult, I rather doubt she worries about her safety as much as my husband and I do.)

I have mentioned a few times that San Antonio is in a rather constant state of drought. As we headed east on the interstate, we enjoyed the lush springtime green that we have missed seeing for quite a while now. We were treated to magnificent Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes (orange), with a sprinkling of pink Primroses (I think that’s what they are called), all of which were constant reminders of Lady Bird Johnson’s Texas beautification project. Thank you, Lady Bird, for a job well done! The flowers are truly sights to be enjoyed by ALL.

We also were happy to see tall, tall, green trees. Out in San Antonio, there are not very many areas where we can enjoy tall, green trees. Our area has many gnarly, short, sort of dark green-leaf oak trees, which is why my husband and I immediately planted six Monterrey Oaks on our lot when we moved here.

As we passed through Houston I thought (very fondly) of when we met my daughter’s college roommate. She was a sweet teenager, ready to take on the world. She is now a married woman living in this bustling city, with her PhD in Petroleum Engineering, working for a large oil company. Brava to her! She just got married, and she looked absolutely radiant in her wedding dress. Where has the time gone?

Oh, I almost forgot, as we drove through Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I was surprised to see a Dalrymple Drive sign. Yes, even spelled the same way as Carola Dunn’s Daisy’s surname. A neat reminder of my very favorite mystery genre.

Three New Cozy Mystery Series Coming in May

April 4, 2014

I don’t know if any of you have been keeping an eye on the Cozy Mystery site’s new page entitled New Cozy Mystery Book Series, but if you have, you already know that three of our Cozy Mystery authors are embarking on new series during the month of May. Wow! We had three new series during April, and now we have three more Cozy Mystery series to look forward to. Personally, I think that’s pretty neat!

Dorothy Cannell, that’s right, Dorothy Cannell of the very popular Ellie Haskell Mystery Series (The Thin Woman, etc.) is starting the new Florence Norris Mystery Series. Florence is a housekeeper for the very upper-crust Stodmarsh family. She works at Mullings, the country house that has been in their family for three hundred years. The series takes place during the 1930s. Murder at Mullings will be the first in Cannell’s new Florence Norris Mystery Series.

Hannah Dennison of the Vicky Hill Exclusive! Mystery Series is finally back, and after a three year absence she will be bringing us the new Kat Stanford Mystery Series. Kat Stanford was formerly a television celebrity host who now owns the Honeychurch Hall Antique Shop in England. Kat and her mother, Iris, had been planning on opening a fabulous antique shop, however Iris bought a shabby, old carriage house on a country estate that is not in a good location for an antique shop. Besides all of this bad news, Kat is discovering she doesn’t know everything there is to know about her mother. Murder at Honeychurch Hall is the first of the Kat Stanford Mystery Series.

Mary Ellen Hughes, the author of the Craft Corner Mystery Series as well as the Maggie Olenski Mystery Series, will be giving us the new Pickled and Preserved Mystery Series. This series takes place in Cloverdale, a small town in New York. Piper Lamb is the owner of Piper’s Picklings, a shop which specializes in pickels and preserves. Piper is given a great opportunity to showcase her pickles at the Cloverdale Fair, but instead of highlighting her pickles, she ends up having to highlight her sleuthing skills. The Pickled Piper is the first mystery in the Pickled and Preserved Mystery Series.

I don’t have any new Holiday Cozy Mysteries to tell you about this month, but I believe there are a couple I’ll be telling you about next month.
