Two New Cozy Mystery Wedding Themed Books Coming September 2016

August 12, 2016

Normally I only highlight upcoming new series and and holiday-themed Cozy Mystery releases, but this month I’ve also decided to discuss two additional upcoming Cozy Mystery releases scheduled for September… because both are wedding themed! And I know that a lot of site visitors love their wedding themed Cozies!

The first release up will be Margaret Grace‘s Matrimony in Miniature, the 9th in her Miniature Mystery Series.  There’s a highly anticipated wedding taking place, but unfortunately, a murder has just taken occurred in the venue! Gerry and granddaughter Maddie will need to get to the bottom of this unexpected death if the wedding is to take place in its proper location. Margaret Grace also writes the Postmistress Mystery Series (under the name Jean Flowers), the Periodic Table Mystery Series (under the name Camille Minichino), and the Sophie Knowles Mystery Series (under the name Ada Madison).

The other wedding-themed Cozy Mystery release for September will be Lethal Lifestyles, the 6th in LynDee Walker‘s Headlines in Heels Mystery Series. In this entry, reporter Nichelle Clark is acting as maid of honor in a friend’s wedding when a corpse becomes an unexpected guest at the rehearsal weekend. She’ll need to work fast to uncover the complicated history between the deceased and the groom-to-be if she’s going to salvage this happy union!

E.J. Copperman: Haunted Guesthouse Mystery Series

August 7, 2016

Night of the Living Deed (A Haunted Guesthouse Mystery Book 1) Lately I’ve been going through some of the most recommended Cozy Mystery series as suggested by visitors to the site, and most of the time they are authors I’ve already read. But sometimes great authors do “slip through the cracks” >>> there are only so many hours in the day after all!

So this month, the first book I’ll be highlighting is one that I actually haven’t read before, but now I can see why this series is so doggone popular! As you probably already could tell by the title of the blog post, I’m talking about the first entry in E.J. Copperman‘s very successful Haunted Guesthouse Mystery Series, Night of the Living Deed.

As you can likely tell from the title of the series, this is a “paranormal” Cozy Mystery Series, specifically a ghost paranormal. Some of you may know that I have somewhat mixed feelings about paranormal themed Cozies. At their worst, they can feel like “cheats” – if the sleuth just psychically “knows” who the killer is, why is solving the crime impressive? And how exactly do you expect to convict a criminal on the expert testimony of “my magic cat told me he did it”? (Yikes! I actually enjoy reading several paranormal Cozies that feature magical cats!)

Fortunately, these sort of shortcuts aren’t present in this particular Cozy. The ghosts in this entry are bound to follow rules – in this case, the most important is that they aren’t able to leave the location in which they died. So in the years since their unfortunate demise (by poison, so they never saw the killer directly), they’ve been frustrated and unable to follow the clues that might lead to the reason they were killed.

Well, you might ask: In that case, what use is it to even have a ghost? Fortunately one of the deceased individuals who is haunting is a private detective, so while he isn’t able to directly influence the world outside the house or personally gather evidence, he’s able to help guide the star of the Cozy, Alison Kerby (divorced single mom and guest house owner).

As a result, there’s a good mixture of why the crime needs to be solved (these ghosts just won’t leave Alison alone otherwise!) and expertise that many beginning Cozy sleuths might lack (fortunately one of them actually knows a bit about investigating crime). Of course, stakes are raised significantly when Alison begins getting threatening messages, and the local police don’t necessarily seem too invested in quickly solving the crime – but isn’t that always the case in the surprisingly dangerous world of small town Cozy settings?

All told, I found E.J. Copperman’s Night of the Living Deed a very enjoyable read. I hope that people keep recommending it for years to come >>> by then I may be all caught up with this very good series!

If you’re interested in seeing more highlights of some of the other most popular and/or recommended Cozy Mystery authors/series, visit the Most Popular & Recommended Cozy Mystery Series page on my site.

P.S. E.J. Copperman also writes the Asperger’s Mystery Series and the Mysterious Detective Mystery Series. As Jeffrey Cohen he writes both the Double Feature Mystery Series and the Aaron Tucker Mystery Series.

Five New Cozy Mystery Holiday Books Coming September 2016

August 5, 2016

Those of you who have been with me for a while know I absolutely love holiday themed Cozies! September will have only one new Cozy Mystery series starting up, but it will have a good number of Cozy holiday themed releases! We’ll have five holiday themed mysteries >>> two for Halloween, three for Christmas! (Is “Yow-zee! ” too big a word to describe how happy I am to see so many holiday themed Cozies?)

The first Halloween themed mystery for September will be Vickie Fee‘s It’s Your Party, Die if You Want To, the 2nd in the Liv and Di In Dixie Mystery Series. Dixie, Tennessee, located party planner Liv McKay is very busy this Halloween preparing for two different themed parties as well as locating a dead body in the local cemetery. Liv will need to solve the mystery quickly if she wants to keep her own business afloat and enjoy the spooky holiday season!

The other new Halloween Cozy mystery will be A Charming Voodoo, the 10th in Tonya Kappes‘s Magical Cures Mystery Series. June Heals’s town of Whispering Falls is experiencing something of a boom, with new housing developments and businesses moving to the quaint town, but this is threatened when a body is discovered in a local pumpkin patch hours before it is planned to open for hayrides! Can June solve this crime before it scares off all the newcomers? Tonya Kappes also writes the Ghostly Southern Mystery Series, the Divorced Diva Mystery Series, and the Spies and Spells Mystery Series.

On to Christmas Cozy releases! Julia Buckley will be releasing Cheddar Off Dead, the 2nd in the Undercover Dish Mystery Series. Caterer Lilah Drake is hoping for a fun and uneventful holiday season, but her plans are interrupted by the discovery of the body of a mall Santa in a parking lot. (Mall Santa sure does seem to be a dangerous job >>> at least according to Cozies!) Julia Buckley also writes the Writer’s Apprentice Mystery Series and the Madeline Mann Mystery Series.

Joanne Fluke will be putting out the 20th in the Hannah Swensen Mystery Series, Christmas Caramel Murder. Hannah’s friend Lisa’s husband will be playing Santa (look out!), which wouldn’t necessarily be a problem except his former girlfriend will be playing Mrs. Claus. When the prospective Mrs. Claus turns up dead, Hannah will need to work fast to keep her friend’s husband out of jail – and clear his name before the festivities begin!

Last on the list of holiday releases will be Mary McHugh‘s Christmas-themed High Kicks, Hot Chocolate, and Homicides, the 5th in the Happy Hoofers Mystery Series. The Happy Hoofers are taking part in a big gig at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall with the legendary Rockettes, when one of the Rockettes turns up dead under the stage! Can the Hoofers discover the murderer before the show is scheduled to begin, or will this holiday season be dance-free?

Of course, you aren’t limited to these Cozies if you’re looking to scratch that holiday itch >>> be sure to check the below links for many other great Halloween and Christmas themed Cozies!

One New Mystery Series by Cozy Mystery Authors Coming September 2016

August 3, 2016

September will be a bit of a “lull” in the new series releases for Cozy Mysteries >>> we’ll only be getting one new series in September. So we’ll have plenty of time to not only take a look at Peg Cochran’s new series, but also to catch-up with our already existing Cozy series!

Peg Cochran will be releasing No Farm, No Foul, the first book in her new Farmer’s Daughter Mystery Series. This series will star Shelby McDonald, a lifestyle and cooking blogger in Lovett, a small western Michigan town. When the local minister’s wife turns up dead on Shelby’s property during a local fundraiser, it looks like Shelby’s good friend is the primary suspect. Shelby isn’t about to let her friend go to jail for a crime she didn’t commit, so she decides the only reasonable course of action is to solve the case herself! Peg Cochran also writes several other Cozy Mystery series: the Gourmet De-Lite Mystery Series starring Gigi Fitzgerald, a gourmet caterer, the Lucille Mystery Series starring Lucille Mazzarella, a middle aged Jersey girl, and the Cranberry Cove Mystery Series starring Monica Albertson, a worker on her brother’s cranberry farm. Also, writing under the name Meg London, she writes the Sweet Nothings Vintage Lingerie Mystery Series starring Emma Taylor, a stylist in Paris, Tennessee.

Of course, even if there’s only one new Cozy Mystery series coming out in September, there are still plenty of other Cozies to look forward to >>> this series and more can be found on the New Cozy Mystery Book Series page, as well as the Soon to Be Released Mysteries page of my Cozy-Mystery site.
