Cozy Mystery News – March 2024

One Poison Pie (Kitchen Witch Mysteries Book 1) I have one piece of good news for you from an established Cozy Mystery author! (it has been a bit since I’ve been able to share good news here… it feels like fewer authors seem to be making early announcements of their books through the traditional channels I usually get my news from…)

Lynn Cahoon has been asked to write two more entries in her Kitchen Witch Mystery Series, which stars Mia Malone, a cook and witch in Magic Springs Idaho. This will bring the series to at least eight entries… though Cahoon has written much more than that over the years, also being the author of the Tourist Trap Mystery Series, Survivors’ Book Club Mystery Series, Cat Latimer Mystery Series, and Farm-to-Fork Mystery Series.

An Inspector Calls

An Inspector Calls is a terrific 2015 mystery movie that is based on J. B. Priestley’s play, and an excellent example of a drawing room mystery. An inspector comes to the home of a very rich, “entitled” family. They are are celebrating the engagement of their daughter. The play takes place during the early twentieth century (1912).

Inspector Goole arrives at the home and proceeds to interview all of the very “entitled” members of the family and the son-in-law-to-be. A working class, beautiful woman has committed suicide, leave her detailed diary for Inspector Goole to use as a tool to uncover each of their “transactions” with the suicide victim.

I was struck by the very obvious opulence of the estate’s house vs. the depiction of the majority of the characters’ living conditions. The aristocratic characters hold the futures of the working class characters in their hands.

Inspector Goole discusses the suicide victim with each of the five party attendees. I’m not going to reveal any spoilers here, so I’m going to stop talking about the plot. However, I will tell you that the ambiance, wardrobe, acting, and plot are all terrific.

An Inspector Calls is a one and a half hour movie intended for adults. It can currently be found on BritBox. I definitely recommend it.

Cozy Mystery Book Recommendations – February 2024

Berried Secrets (A Cranberry Cove Mystery Book 1) February is almost over, so it’s time to discuss our favorite Cozies that we read this month!
