Danna, looks like a lot of Christmas books are coming out. I will certainly look for these!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, the publishers must know that we are getting our holiday mysteries ready.
MJ says
I think ‘Murder in Three Volumes’ (7th in Booktown Mystery Series) by Lorna Barrett is supposed to be released October 2, 2012
MJ says
Thanks for the clarification, Danna. I actually thought it was a ‘new story’, added to the series. But, I now see, it’s the first three volumes/stories (duh!! thus, the title!) in this series in one book.
With the first three books in one, it appears to be a great buy for those that haven’t started reading this series yet. I always enjoy Lorna Barrett and Lorraine Bartlett books.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I know, MJ, about thinking a new release is a new mystery book. I wish the titles of these types of books would include words like “Omnibus” or “Compilation”.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, MJ, for bringing Lorna Barrett’s Murder in Three Volumes to my attention. I added the omnibus to October 2012’s list.
Lee says
Thanks so much for your October new release list!!!!!!! I look forward to it every month and with my IPad, I can pre-order.
Thank you so much!!!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
You’re welcome, Lee. I look forward to the monthly new release lists, also. (I keep a tentative list going all of the time and add books to their corresponding months as I become aware of them, but usually I don’t actually “look” at the lists until I start to work on the actual month I’m getting ready.
Dru says
Looking forward to reading some of these titles.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Me, too, Dru!
Melissa B says
Thanks for the list! =)
Danna - cozy mystery list says
You’re welcome, Melissa B!
marja says
Really looking forward to the Carolyn Hart book “What the Cat Saw”!
I love Carolyn Hart’s Henrie O mysteries, but never quite got into her other series, so I’m hoping the single female protagonist will draw me in! Well, and the CATS.
Purrs!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Marja, I was pleasantly surprised to see Carolyn Hart was going to be starting a new Cozy Mystery series. You’re right about the cats. When I read the synopsis of the new series I thought about putting it into the Mysteries with Cats theme, which I think I’ll go do right now.
Julia says
Wow, lots of new books this month. I’ll have to space out my book-buying habit to allow for my Christmas shopping necessity.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Julia, our household has all four of our birthdays between early November and early January. With those birthdays, and Christmas, I know I should be pacing myself!
Denise says
Thanks for the new list. My TBR pile just got a whole lot bigger. Looks like I’ll have plenty to read during my fall break at the end of October.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
You’re welcome, Denise. What better way to enjoy your fall break!
linda says
Danna, Help!! I have created a monster!! A “reading monster” that is!! I think I might have written before that at times I can get my dear hubby to read some of the James Patterson books. But about 2 months ago I gave him a Bill Crider “Dan Rhodes” book. The other day he finished reading all of those books by Bill Crider that I got in the mail and now he is reading the Willard Scott / Bill Crider books!! I told him that I think there are more books in the libraries by Willard Scott.
This is fine. It gives him something to do other than argue with the umpires or referees while I am trying to read myself!!
The problem!! He doesn’t think he has to do anything else! Oh no, darling hubby, it doesn’t work that way!! The house still needs to be kept clean, the yard clean, meals still need to be planned and fixed, the dogs need taken care of and played with. The laundry needs folding and put away. He made the mistake of bragging about how he was reading books faster that I was!!
Since it has been quite a bit cooler here in my neck of the woods, I took yesterday to clean out the garage. I could do most of it myself but I still had to have help moving and lifting tubs and boxes. When I asked darling hubby to help, he informed me that he was trying to read!! Oh no, darling hubby, that doesn’t fly in this house!! Since I did all that cleaning I told him, no, I suggested, that just maybe he might fix supper! He went out and got a pizza! I think I’ll be trying that trick, see how often I get by with that!!
Last night he informed me that when I go to the libraries this week I need to find him more books like this!! But he would like it if I could find him books with a little larger print. Some of the print on the books he was reading was too little and was giving him a headache!! Huh!! Darling hubby! You can get up out of bed early and just go with me and pick out your own books!! He said he didn’t know how to look for books in the library!! If he wants more books he will be learning in a quick hurry!! Believe you me!!
Ladies, beware!! If your darling hubby is getting ready to retire, gear up now!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Yikes, Linda. Not only will he be wanting to read all day, he may even start wanting to read the very same mystery book you’re reading (at the same time)!
(I really enjoyed those Bill Crider and Willard Scott mysteries. I only wish there had been more.)
linda says
The important thing, though, Danna, is that Darling Hubby doesn’t get out of bed until at least 11 a.m, often times a lot later. He only gets up then so that he can watch “The Price is Right!” He doesn’t go to bed until maybe 2 or 3 a.m. I , myself, am an early riser. I get up maybe around 7 or 8 so that I can see the morning news. I like to know what has gone on in our world overnight. Early on in our retirement he would try to leave me notes of what he wanted me to do, or people he wanted me to contact before he got up!! Sorry dear Hubby, that didn’t fly in my hen house!! I seem to think I only received about 2 notes!!
By the time darling hubby has gotten up I have had the dogs fed, the house cleaned up, supper planned for the day, the laundry started.
I started taking care of my 2 greatgrandchildren 4 days a week when school started up this year. So that is another actividy that I do besides all the other things.
The kids are almost 3 and 4 and a half. Cute kids, but they need almost constant attention. With the dogs also wanting attention I get quiet time during their quiet time. Thankfully the dogs will sleep then, too.
By the time the quiet time comes around, darling hubby is up and about wanting attention. Sorry, darling hubby, I need the quiet time. I told him that it sure would help if he were to get up and help me a little more, but this week he has had books to read!! Normally I read about 2 books every 3 days. I have only read 1 whole book this whole week! Something is going to change!! Especially when he starts bragging that he is reading more books faster than I can!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, it sounds like you two “work different shifts”! Actually, it sounds like you work the day shift, while he reads the second shift. Lucky him!
BB says
linda,
Not sure if your hubby would like these, but they are by another TV weatherman, Al Roker:
The Morning Show Murders (2009)
The Midnight Show Murders (2010) – Finalist 2011 Nero Award
The Talk Show Murders (2011)
Haven’t read them, but Al is a pretty funny guy so guessing his books would be, too.
On second thought, with all the trouble you’re already having with DH, perhaps you’d better NOT suggest these! LOL
Danna - cozy mystery list says
BB, I enjoyed the Willard Scott & Bill Crider Stanley Waters Mystery Series so much, I have been toying with trying Al Roker‘s & Dick Lochte’s Billy Blessings Mystery Series.
linda says
Thanks for the suggestion BB. I’ll give that author a try for my darling hubby. He really enjoyed the Willard Scott/ Bill Crider books. He enjoyed the little tidbits about the weather. I haven’t read these myself but will this winter, I am sure.
Lynn T. says
Linda,
I bet your husband would like the Walt Longmire series written by Craig Johnson. In July favorites, Kim recommended the books and also mentioned that it was on A&E. as a TV series. Kim said she had read 5 of the books in two weeks.
I have not read the books but we did tape the series. We both liked it very much. My husband liked it as much as I did.
(Just like The Closer). It is not a cozy series. I see the books at the library now and they look like they might be popular. I plan on reading a Longmire book and I will. There are just so many other books to read and catch up on. Nice problem to have!
linda says
Lynn T. I like the Walt Longmire books. I have tried to get darling hubby to read these but he hasn’t gotten into these yet. They aren’t funny!! I need to find more authors similar to Bill Crider for him, but wait!! What am I saying!! I need his help around this place a lot more. Maybe I just think I want to find him more books to read!!
linda c says
Lynn, I picked up some copies of books by Craig Johnson for my hubby again this week. I have taken all the others back to the library that I had for him and these books by Johnson are the only ones around the house for him to read right now. I do think that since he liked some of the other authors that I have picked out for him that he will certainly like this author. I hope he does like this author because I believe there are quite a few books available for him to read this winter. He is finding out that his reading will help him to endure these long, dark Ohio winter nights more easily.
Andrea says
Danna, I just wanted to say a big thank you for your site. I love checking out all the new books & keeping an eye out for new releases & my favourite authors.
Living in Australia, there is no White Christmas – so reading the holiday mysteries are always a treat for me.
I have an extensive list of books I’m either waiting to buy or waiting to be released (it’s never-ending) – so I don’t think I will ever run out of any mysteries to read & keep me entertained.
Thank you again
Andrea
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Andrea, we don’t have white Christmases in San Antonio either. I love reading holiday theme mysteries that take place in the type of weather you associate with the holiday. Although Christmas in the tropics sounds like it might just be fun, I don’t necessarily want my mysteries to take place there.
linda says
Danna and Andrea, believe it or not we don’t have many White Christmases here in Ohio either. But if we do then it seems as if New Year’s Eve and day are both warm. If it is warm on Christmas then those next two days are snowy. Doesn’t make sense!!
Jerry says
Danna
I just finished Gone by Randy Wayne White, One of the best books I have ever read.
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I’ll have to look Randy Wayne White up, Jerry.
Louise says
Hello can anyone tell me what the following phrase means
as indicated below ???
Mrs. Jeffries Takes a Second Look ’12 (This is an omnibus of books 4, 5, & 6.)
I have seen the word omnibus before but do not know what it means.
Thank you,
Louise
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Hi Louise,
It means that the 4th, 5th, and 6th books of the Mrs. Jeffries series are included in the book. It doesn’t contain anything other than those three mystery books.
Amy S says
I love Casey Mayes’ series A Mystery by the Numbers. They are wonderful mysteries that are clean and fun. If you haven’t read them before, you need to try one!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Amy S, for telling us how good Casey Mayes’ Math Puzzle Mystery Series is!
BB says
Deanna Raybourn is also coming out with a Christmas book, Silent Night: A Lady Julia Christmas Novella. The “official” date is November 1, but it seems like a lot of time they release them a little early – or at least Amazon does.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, BB, for the heads up about Deanna Raybourn’s Silent Night: A Lady Julia Christmas Novella. (I just sent myself an e-mail so that I can remember to get it posted as soon as I get back.)
Katy says
Wow, so excited! I just placed holds for 10 new books at my local library. Some are checked out and some on order. Going to get the Christmas shopping done because when the books start becoming available, it’s read, read, read! Thank you so much for your website! Love it, love it, love it!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Katy, it sounds like you are going to be busy reading. AND thank you for the kind words about the website. I’m glad you found it.
ginger says
Wow October list already. I haven’t bought September books yet. I have only read 2 books and started a 3rd. I went back to work and have been sick. Basketball season at school has started and starting to plan fall carnival too.
Reading has been cut down a lot but I will get back to it soon. Thanks again Danna for this site.
Jerry says
Danna
I have some great book suggestions for everyone. I had to have some out patient surgery and had plenty of time to read
1 Stuart Woods — Severe Clear {Kept me in suspense till the end}
2 Lee Child— A Wanted man { Jack Reacher at his best}
3 Michael Brandman— Fool Me Twice {Anyone who loved Robert Parker will enjoy this one}
I know I have said it before Danna great website
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jerry, it sounds like you had plenty to do while recuperating from your out patient surgery. Thanks for all of the suggestions, and the very kind words about the site.

Also finished The Other Woman by Hank Phillippi Ryan.

Livia j. Washburn has a new book this month, too.
Wedding Cake killer
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Andrea, I am currently working on the November 2012 Mystery Book New Releases page. Washburn’s Wedding Cake Killer is on that list (November 6 release date).
Connie says
Thanks Danna for these monthly releases. I look forward to them each and every month. Here is a new cozy mystery author that you may consider including in your list – Waverly Curtis author of the new Barking Detective Mystery series. The 1st book was released today, October 2nd, “Dial C for Chihuahua”. The 2nd book in the series is to be released on April 2nd, 2013, “Chihuahua Confidential”.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Connie, I’m going to go (right this minute) and google Waverly Curtis. Thanks!
I just checked my Authors to Post file, and I already have Curtis on my list! I knew that name sounded familiar…
AndieP says
I received A Fatal Winter Advance Reading Copy via the Amazon Vine program and read it yesterday. It is the second Max Tudor mystery by G. M. Malliet.
It is better than the first, which I thought was brilliant. I like the settings, the characters, the twisty plot and how the author brings it all to a very satisfying close at the end. I recommend it highly.
It’s due out on October 16th.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
AndieP, it looks like A Fatal Winter will be a great addition to G. M. Malliet‘s Max Tudor Mystery Series. Thanks for letting us know.
Allison says
Danna,
You’ve accidentally put this book as #4 in the St. Just series instead of #2 in Max Tudor. Just thought you’d want to know.
I really like all of her books. Can’t wait to read this one.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Allison. I just went back to that entry and found that Andie also tried to let me know I had it in the wrong series, but for some reason, I didn’t fix it on either G. M. Malliet’s page, or this entry.
So, thanks to both you, Allison, and Andie!
JoAnn says
Hi Danna,
Love your site! I’m a big fan of Cleo Coyle, MC Beaton, Laura Childs, and others too numerous to mention. Thank you for recommending Kathy Hogan Trocheck – love her series. I came across Kate Borden’s Peggy Jean Turner series by accident and really enjoyed all three books very much. The last was in 2005 – do you know if there will be others? I love fall and winter-themed cozies, they’re the best. Thanks so much for this site. JoAnn
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Welcome to the site, JoAnn. I am guessing that there won’t be any more Peggy Jean Turner books, since as you say, the last one was published in 2005. I read those books out of sequence, and actually only planned to read the one (Kate Borden‘s Death of a Trickster) – but ended up liking it so much that I got the other two of the series and read them. I loved the sense of small town, New England community.
I’m also sorry that Kathy Hogan Trochek is no longer writing her Julia Callahan Garrity Mystery Series. I can hardly believe it’s been twelve years since the last House Mouse escapade…
