Here’s another stumper. Sara asked for help identifying this mystery series before, and just posted a comment mentioning that she is still looking for the author:
I’m trying to recall the author of this series, and would appreciate help from you and your readers. IF I remember it correctly, it’s a series that came out at least since 1996 (or later) in which a female who works either in anthropology or with Native American artifacts in a western U.S. state. She found clues to a hidden mine (gold or silver maybe???) and one of the books had a really old map in it that she traced. I think there were at least three books or more in the series. Any clues? Thanks. SARA
Please post a comment if you think you might know the author of this mystery series. Thank you!

I’m pretty sure it’s one of the series by author Judith Van Gieson. She wrote 2 series set in New Mexico. One featured Claire Reynier who bought rare books for the University of N.M. and it was my favorite.
Barbara Thompson says
It might be the Em Hanson mysteries by Sarah Andrews. An Eye for Gold but it has been awhile since I read those.
Maria (BearMountainBooks) says
Kirk Mitchell is the only author that comes to mind and I don’t think that is it, because the protags are police (I think. It’s been a while. They’re investigators anyway.) Good series.
(Finally got a picture of at least one oriole at the feeder!!!! Well, I didn’t. Husband did. We had to take it from inside. When we go out, the darn birds are so shy they won’t come in the yard!!! Most of the pictures I took had the light behind the bird so you see bird, but no color!)

Beverly Connor has two series, both are forensic anthropologists, I believe. Highly excellent, both.
Susan says
It’s not the Em Hansen series, (Sorry Barbara! 🙂 ) because she’s a geologist not an anthropologist. (Soil not people.)

Thank you, ALL, for the recommendations. I hope that one of these authors is the person Sara is looking for…

There is a wonderful mystery series by Sandi Ault, whose main character is Jamaca Wild, an employee of the US Forest Service stationed in the rural area of New Mexico. There are 3 or 4 books in the series: Wild Indigo, Wild Inferno and 2 more. I really enjoyed the history of the southwest, the culture of the Native Americans there and the beauty of the landscape that come alive in Ault’s writings.

Thanks, Marilyn, for telling us about Sandi Ault. I’m always looking for more Cozy Mystery authors! (Actually, is she Cozy?) She is already on my list of authors to post…

I don’t know if this is a mystery series but I have seen several books on the library shelves by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. I think this author is a Native American. I have not read any of these books yet. But I would think that since there are a lot of these on the shelves that these must be good books!!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, Cynthia Harrod-Eagles writes the very British Bill Slider Mystery Series… Although the series is not Cozy, Harrod-Eagles is one of my favorite authors.
Regina says
I just finished Veronica Heley’s new book “Murder My Neighbor” and like another comment I read, I wish Ellie would dispose of her nasty daughter. I have a question. Does anyone know the name of a mystery in which a character makes watermelon cookies with watermelon kool aid? Thank you. Regina
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Regina, try Joanne Fluke’s Apple Turnover Murder for the watermelon cookie recipe. This very same question came up in an earlier blog… (From December 2010)
