Mystery Series with Tribal Herbology AND Mystery Series with WWII, New York Private Eye…

July 9, 2010

It’s that time again when I ask for help in identifying authors for Cozy Mystery site readers.  OK… I feel like I know this first author, but cannot seem to bring it to the front of my brain. So…

Allison would like to know who the author of these books is…

“The major character has an American Indian background and uses cures and concoctions based on traditional tribal herbology. She primarily deals with cases of abused women and usually takes them away and furnishes them with secure housing.
Does anyone recognize this author?”

AND

Linda would like to know the identity of this author…

“I know this is pretty vague information, however it’s all I can remember.  I’m looking for the author of 2 books – the books feature a female private investigator in New York City after WW2.  She works with a male FBI agent and she is looking for her boyfriend who has been missing since the war.  In the second book she goes to Germany to locate a missing woman and also searches for her boyfriend.  I think the books were published in 2007 or ’08.”

If anyone has a suggestion, please post a comment so that Linda and Allison can get back to reading some of their favorite authors. And, thank you for your help!

I love your web site. I have bookmarked it and expect to return to it many times. I was looking for some new authors to read and boy did I find some interesting suggestions!
I want to know the name of a book and the author. There are at least 2 books by a new author, they are very funny. Two ladies and sometimes a friend or niece help them run a discount or dollar store in a small town. A big box store comes to the outskirts of the town and they do lots of great stuff to keep their small store surviving. These came out about 2 maybe 3 years ago. There may be more in the series now. They were very funny and I would like to read the new books. Thanks!

David, I just looked up the first book Miss Fortune, and you are so right! Thank you so much for telling us about Sara Mills.

Linda, the descriptions of both of the books are perfect matches for your clues!

    Thanks again, David.

Martha, I’m glad you found the site, and thanks for the kind words…

I think that you are talking about Karin Gillespie’s Bottom Dollar Girls. Bet Your Bottom Dollar is the first in the series…

Still working my way backward through the blog! I found this comment from you & followed the link to Amazon, liked what I saw & then went to my library & put on hold all three that I could find in this series from Karin Gillespie — but I’m looking on your site to see if there are any more books by the same author, either in this or any other series — and I can’t find them anywhere on your site! I looked under authors beginning with “G” & also tried your search feature — but — nothing! So — the case of the missing mysteries???? Anymore information anywhere?

Re: major character has an American Indian background
I think this may be Thomas Perry’s series about Jane Whitefield. Very enjoyable.
