Back in July of 2013, I wrote a TV and Movies post about the Australian Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries television series. (Yes, they are based on Kerry Greenwood‘s very popular Phryne Fisher Mystery Series!) I went ahead and added the link to my original entry – in case you haven’t read it and would enjoy seeing what the mystery shows are about.) Suffice it to say that I really enjoy this series!
I believe some of us speculated about the show continuing. Of course, none of us knew if it would, but there’s always hope!
Well, today, there is more than hope! Today I got an email (Thank you so much, Fran!) giving us the wonderful news: The production company is going to be making a third season of this terrific mystery show! Yippee!
And there is even more news, we have our very own favorite Cozy Mystery authors (amongst others) to thank for this third season. Yes, the Sisters in Crime apparently lobbied for Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries to continue (for at least another season.) That’s quite a feat when you consider that the leading role is a woman! I mean how many shows are there who dare to have a female lead?
So, the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) will start production of this terrific Australian period-piece mystery show in October.
Pretty terrific news, isn’t it?

Totally fantastic!!! My Acorn is going to get more of a workout!!
Thank you so much for keeping us up to date on all of this.

Pat, I was happy that Fran sent me this information, also!
Marja says
I’m very happy to hear this, and I hope Series 2 gets added to Netflix VERY soon. I love Phryne, her generosity and gutsiness, and I love Essie Davis. The casting and costumes are perfect.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Marja, isn’t Essie Davis terrrific? I sure hope to see her in more things in the future.
Deb says
Hurray! I just watched the latest episode of season 2 on PBS. Our local station has a special Mystery Night fundraiser every few months. People donate to have Mystery Fridays continue to show Miss Fisher, Midsomer Murders, and other great British series. Since we donated big bucks to get the complete Doc Martin Series for our Christmas present, I’m going to wait a while before my next Mystery donation – maybe it will fund Miss Fisher’s next series on our station!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Deb, you are so lucky that your PBS station is “willing” to carry these really good British/Australian series!
Arlie says
Yay!!!! Thank you for the wonderful news (and for saving me from online searching for updates)!!!! This show has been a great escape for me and my mother and very educational about life in that era.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Arlie, it is good news, isn’t it?
Judes says
There was a link to a petition which I signed, so maybe that also had something to do with the series being renewed in the face of cutbacks. I ADORE this series, though I was reluctant to read the first one based on the synopsis.
I highly recommend the audiobooks. The actress reading the books is amazing! Quite a few of them have the added bonus of the actress interviewing the author, which is fascinating.
My only complaint is that I’ve gone through them all, and I”m now waiting for the next book in the series.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Judes, then thank you! I’m glad you signed that petition…
I went to my audible account and listened to the narrator (Stephanie Daniel). She’s good! When you told us how good she is, I expected that it would be Barbara Rosenblat or Davina Porter. I’ll watch for Stephanie Daniel. Thanks for telling us about her.
Nikki says
Great news I saw the others on Netflix. I hoped there would be more.
Just got my computer working again. Hope all is going well for your daughter in New Orleans. My email has been out or I would have checked before.
Nikki
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Nikki, I’m looking forward to more Miss Fisher’s episodes, also.
(My daughter will be moving to New Orleans in August. She has her apartment leased for the year, which is a big relief to both my husband and me!)
Felipe Adan Lerma says
This is great news. My wife and I both love this show. Glad I caught your post this morning – am sharing! Thank you 🙂
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Felipe, I think it’s good news, also. I am so glad Fran sent me this information!
Ann Philipp says
Danna, thank you so much for recommending this. I started with the first two books, then the shows. Besides being a fun mystery, visually it’s so interesting, The art deco period is so beautiful and her outfits are stunning.
I just started watching season two – so much fun!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Ann, I love that art deco period setting, also. The sets remind me of the first years of the Agatha Christie’s Poirot shows with David Suchet. Absolutely beautiful…
reginav says
Danna As you know, I have loved the books about Miss Fisher very much. I was unaware that there was a TV series about her. Where can I obtain it? Some readers mentioned Net Flix.If so i will try that.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Regina, I have heard from some Cozy Mystery readers that some of the PBS stations are showing the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mystery shows. Also, I suggest you find out if your library carries them. There is a chance that they might. Netflix has them, also.
Marja says
So far as I know, Netflix has only Series One. I’ll doublecheck to see if Series Two has shown up, but usually Netflix makes a big deal when they acquire new episodes.
As I mentioned, one of the things I adore about Phryne is the way she dresses [and the insouciant way Ms Davis wears the outfits!] The costume designer said she had a fabulous time looking for vintage fabrics in “antiques” collections and that this is her favorite series ever that she has worked on, because of being able to “dress” Phryne and her co-characters. Phryne gets special attention because she loves haute couture, and visual references for the costume designer abound. What fun!
I do wish my PBS station carried the series. They seem terribly obsessed with the Antiques Roadshow and This Old House — fine as they are, I wish they didn’t take all of Monday and Thursday evening!
I do hope Kerry Greenwood can take some time to write another Corrina Chapman mystery soon. I adore those too.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Marja, thanks for the tidbits about the costume designer. She/he does an absolutely excellent job on this show.
Billie says
I really liked the series which I got from Netflix after reading about it on this blog. Haven’t gotten the most recent book, but will be doing so.
I also like her other series about Corinna the baker.
Thank you Sisters in Crime for the campaign.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Billie, you aren’t kidding! We have the Sisters in Crime to thank.
Jan0274 says
I am so happy there will be a third season of Miss Fisher! I hope there will be a fourth and more. I’d like to see an episode where Phryne saves Jack’s life and then flirts that he owes her, etc. (ancient Chinese belief) and then another episode where he saves her life so they are even. Lots of funny dialogue would ensue.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jan0274, as you can probably tell, a lot of us are happily awaiting the third season of the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.
Louise says
The Miss Fishers shows on TV are really charming. Fun. Light. But the books are much better.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Louise, even though the books “are much better” it’s so nice that they were made into a television series.
sharon says
thank god, i feel starved for a decent programme now that murdoch mysteries, and a few other great series are off air at the moment, i can look forward to watching miss fisher’s murder mysteries soon so, please hurry up, and get them sorted i’m on tender hooks waiting
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Sharon, I am so glad the Sisters in Crime were able to convince them to make more of these high quality Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries shows!
Lee says
Living in Texas, I stumbled onto this series while on a site where the discussion stated if you like Murdock Mysteries you’ll like the Miss Fisher series. Loving Murdock I decided to give it a try and ordered the 1st series on DVD…what a joy. After finishing the 1st series I immediately ordered the 2nd series, and can’t wait for the 3rd. The series are so good I watch them numerous times and enjoy it every time. I ordered from Acorn Online and they are really promoting the Miss Fisher series now. Sadly we get neither of the Fisher or Murdock on our PBS stations.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Lee, our local PBS station doesn’t play the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries nor do they play the Murdoch Mysteries. (Seeing that you live in Texas, you may very well get my PBS station.)
Janice says
I watch the Murdoch mysteries on the Ovation channel on cable. It’s on Saturday nights and also shows during some afternoons during the week. It’s a good show and brings in many famous characters such as Arthur Conan Doyle and Thomas Edison. I don’t know if all cable systems provide this channel but it’s one o f my favorites.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Janice, I checked to see if we get that channel. No such luck!
Lee says
I get the Ovation channel too, it’s channel 1385 on U Verse. I also got the series on DVD and watch the first 6 seasons over and over – and they are still good. I love both series – The Miss Fishers and Murdoch Mysteries. I watch the Houston PBS. Glad to know someone else in Texas watches these series.
Lee says
Sorry, misspelled Murdoch, not Murdock.
Joyce says
We love this series! Thank you for a new year! She is a woman ahead of her time. We receive viewing on PBS WPT out of Green Bay, WI.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Joyce, our PBS here in San Antonio hasn’t picked up the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. I sure hope they do!
Donna Mc says
My local PBS station finally starting airing this series! I’ve only seen two episodes so far, but I’m really enjoying the beautiful costumes & scenery. Glad you recommended the show on your blog, I’ve been hoping to see it on TV one day.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Donna Mc, I am so glad you are now able to enjoy the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Phryne is a kick to watch, and they couldn’t have picked a better actress to bring her to life!
