I mentioned in my last entry that I get recommendations from site readers who believe that their authors belong on the site. I have found several new authors from these recommendations, and hope that you do to! Here are the latest authors I have added:
Lucy Lawrence (aka Jenn McKinlay): Decoupage Mystery Series which features a sleuth who happens to be an employee of a paper shop…
Jenn McKinlay (aka Lucy Lawrence): Cupcake Bakery Mystery Series which has, as its sleuth, the owner of the Fairy Tale Cupcakes Bakery…
Judi McCoy: Dog Walker Mystery Series features a sleuth who starts a dog walking business, and finds out that she is able to communicate telepathically with her charges…
Wendy Lyn Watson: Mystery à la Mode Mystery Series is set in Texas and features a sleuth who owns an ice cream parlor…
Peggy Webb: Southern Cousins Mystery Series features two cousins who sleuth – and a very darling Basset Hound named Elvis…

I love your selections since I’ve read all of them excluding Jenn since her book has not been released yet. Wendy’s book is on my shelf waiting its turn to be read.
Good choices!

I just read the first Judi McCoy…. LOVE IT!
And, I also just read the first Peggy Webb… LOVE IT!! (and I’m not being partial just because I have a bassett hound!) I really did love the book.
Can’t wait to get the next book in each of those two series!

Danna, thanks for adding all these new authors. I’m really looking forward to reading their books!
I’ve read Lucy Lawrence’s first book ‘Stuck on Murder’ and loved it! I am awaiting the release of her second book,’Cut to the Corpse’ coming out in early 2010.
Have you noticed the covers on these authors’ books? They are so adorable and very enticing to readers. I think the illustrators for the covers of the new cozy mysteries are really stepping up their appeal.

I love the bright colors on cozy mysteries, Connie. The ones I’m not partial to are the covers with photographs in subdued colors>>> They just don’t catch my eye. Of course, if an author I follow has that type of book cover, I will still get the book… but if it’s an author who I am not familiar with, the cover (sorry to say!) plays a part in my initial selection.

You know the old “you can’t judge a book by its cover”…..
Well, I have to disagree! I’m with you ladies… if the cover looks appealing, I will pick up the book! I wonder how many of us are out there with the same thought! Hmmm…..
Would be interesting to know the percentage of people who “judge a book by its cover”.

I am afraid I’m guilty of the same thing. It’s because I subconsciously think that if the book cover is boring the writing will be too. That’s not always true of course, many authors don’t have a lot of say in what their publishers do.

I actually wrote a three part entry about mystery book covers:
Mystery Book Covers, part 1
Mystery Book Covers, part 2
Mystery Book Covers, part 3

I am also guilty of judging a book by its cover. Glad I am not the only one. The styles have changed over the years I think but you can always tell a cozy by its cover…well, not always but mostly.
