Danna, June seems to have a few new releases. i am looking forward to the new quilting mystery. Being from Ohio, I don’t know why I am drawn to the southern mysteries but I am. I love the mysteries and the novels from the Carolinas, Georgia and Virginia and Texas. June looks to be a slow month for new releases. I would think there would be more books set in resort or vacation areas. People will be reading on the beach, as they travel, or as they are just tanning out back in their own backyards. People read during the summer months, too.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda C, it does seem like June 2012’s list of new mystery book releases is rather short. I think that generally speaking, October is the month with the most releases.
linda c says
I can understand why there are an abundunce of new releases for the month of October. With the darker, longer nights ahead people will be reading more. But I still think the summer months would be good reading months too. But then I read almost anytime of the year, so maybe I am a little biased.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda C, maybe it has to do with the fact that a lot of people try to do outdoor things during the hot months…
susie calkins says
great list! thanks! I know my book’s release got pushed back from fall (sigh) because there are too many big names coming out then. I think those fall releases are connected to holiday buying. Just my two cents 🙂
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Susie, I wouldn’t doubt that a lot of holiday gifts come from those fall mystery releases. Great idea to push back mysteries that would be overshadowed by authors with “big names”.
linda c says
Well, yea I understand that Danna. Being able to finally get outside to do things during the warmer months is what makes the colder winter months bareable.
ginger says
14 out of 19 authors are listed that i read.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
You better get reading, Ginger!!!
linda c says
I hope I can find some new favorites in this list Ginger
alfred says
Ginger how many books this summer have you read so far just curious.
ginger says
Alfred as of today, in the last 2 months I would say at least 15. My school gets out next Friday for the summer. So I will up my reading to at least 5 to 8 books a week.
Ann says
Great list – I didn’t know Janet Evanovich had a new series out.
Ann
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Ann, I don’t know how authors can write so many books in one year… authoring is definitely a full time job!
Margaret says
I am so excited to read Krista Davis’ next Domestic Diva Mystery. Of all the series I read and LOVE, this is my favorite. After DIVA DIGS UP DIRT, she has two more definitely being published. I hope Krista continues this series for a while longer. People have asked me what it is about this series I love so much, but it is hard to say. I think it is like when you meet someone new, sometimes you click and become great friends and sometimes you don’t. With this series it just clicked. That is what is wonderful about cozies they are like great friends.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Margaret, let me guess>>> You like Krista Davis’ Domestic Diva Mystery Series.
(Actually, it sounds like you LOVE that series!)
linda c says
Margaret, Several years ago my hubby annd I tried to start our own house cleaning service but family affairs forced us to stop. I like the different series’ that have domestic services as a theme. Wish I could have stuck with it. Cleaning to me is therapy. I get upset or frustrated, I clean.
Margaret says
Actually, Linda the main character, Sophie Winston, is not a Domestic as in Housekeeper she is a Party Planner who also writes a Martha Stewart like column for the Newspapers. She lives in Olde Town Alexandria (which is not fictionalized) just outside D.C. She has a rival Domestic Diva, who actually has to T.V. show a la Martha. Krista Davis starts each chapter with a cute letter to the Domestic Diva and adds recipes at the end.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Margaret, with all of the positive comments about Krista Davis and her Domestic Diva Mystery Series, I just had to go buy the first book in the series. I can’t wait until it gets closer to Thanksgiving, so I can read it.
linda c says
Well Margaret, Goes to show some of you that I haven’t read any books from this author at all. But from your recommendations, I probably would enjoy this series.
Margaret says
Danna, I think you will like the series. DIVA RUNS OUT OF THYME is (in my opinion) well thought out, well written and fun; but each installment gets better than the previous. The best is DIVA HAUNTS THE HOUSE. I started this series with the last on a whim, looking for just one more Halloween book, and fell in love. I quickly bought the entire series and started from the beginning. I hope you do enjoy it (although I won’t be dissapointed if you don’t, everyone has different taste). I just happen to identify with Sophie and find her very real (especially when she mentions sacrificing style for comfort when choosing clothing 🙂
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Margaret, I see by the list of books in Krista Davis‘ Domestic Diva Mystery Series, that it is going to take me a few years to catch up with her current book. If I read the first one (The Diva Runs Out of Thyme) during the Thanksgiving season, there is no way I will be able to catch up this year to her fourth book (The Diva Cooks a Goose) by Christmas. And, then I will have to wait until the year after that to read her Halloween mystery (The Diva Haunts the House).
Either way, I’m excited about reading them!
alfred says
HI Danna I know this is the June list but I just got 5 new mysteries from May I wanted to tell you about. Brownies and Broomsticks by Bailey Cates looks like it is going to be a good series to start. Mrs Jeffries Defends Her Own which I can’t start for awhile since I am about book 6 in series. I also got Copycat Killing – Sofie Kelly’s newest book and then two more that are in the mail, which are A Deadly Grind by Victoria Hamilton and The Big Kitty by Claire Donally. Lots of good reading in the next few weeks. Also coming up in September is another Mrs Jeffries book but it is a omnibus with the 4, 5, & 6 stories I think that is what it is – so might want to warn readers in the future.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Alfred, thanks for sharing those books with us.
I am one Sofie Kelly book behind you, and just bought her Sleight of Paw. I also bought all of the rest of Edie Claire’s Leigh Koslow mysteries.
I try to be careful to not add authors’ omnibuses to the “Just Released” lists. I figure that people who follow an author already have read the books the author’s publishers decide to bundle in an omnibus.
Amy says
I love it when people give personal recommendations – I’m going to check all of those out, too!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Amy, for years it never dawned on me to make this a regular entry. I’m glad someone finally made it a point to say she was interested in more than just my recommendations! I have found authors throughout the years from reading Cozy Mystery readers’ comments. But this monthly entry makes it a whole lot easier to get all of the recommendations in one place.
Kerry says
Love all the cozies, especially the ones that are written about/in the South or the North or anywhere. To me reading is so relaxing. You get to read about places you have been to or want to go see.Happy reading to all:)
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Kerry, it sounds like you enjoy ALL Cozy Mystery books! Set in the south, north, or anywhere!
Denise says
Thanks for the new list. I can’t wait to get to my TBR pile and start to read my way through it once school is out.(June 14)- of course the pile never ends cause I keep adding to it.
I know alot of us like birds and so I thought I would share this. http://www.allaboutbirds.org has a camera with a live feed on a pair of red tail hawks and their babies at Cornell . My first graders have been fascinated to see the parents nest sitting, seeing the little hatchlings, feeding time (dad brought a small mouse one day )etc.. Pretty cool.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you so much, Denise, for sharing that website. I’m going to go take a look at it right now!
Here is the link: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/page.aspx?pid=2422
WOW! Is that one of the parents sitting on the little hawks? Denise, I know I’ll be watching this Red-Tailed Hawk site a whole lot!
Thanks, again!
Thea says
I ran across a cozy mystery that will be released on June 5 that’s not on your list. It’s Hearse and Buggy by Laura Bradford. The cover says that it’s an Amish mystery and the first in a new series. Thought you might want to know!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Thea. I just added Hearse and Buggy to the June list of new mystery book releases, as well as the Laura Bradford and Elizabeth Lynn Casey pages. (Yes, “they” are one and the same!)
ginger says
oh good I love Laura Bradford. Danna I am packing for my trip to watch the baseball team play in semi-finals tomorrow.
Now to decide what books to take with me, at least 5 or more.
Happy weekend everybody.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Ginger, I hope you have a wonderful time, have a great weekend, and that your team does really well.
ginger says

Danna - cozy mystery list says

Violette says
There are 5 that I am dying to read. Wish June could arrive sooner. I definitely will be reading Kari Townsend’s new book as well as Hearse and Buggy, Quilt or Innocence, The Storm and Hot Button. I am glad that you do these lists every month. It’s hard to keep up with the new books without your list.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Violette, June looks like a good month for you – reading wise.
Jerry says
Danna
I just finished Lisa Jackson’s new one “Afraid to Die”. Could not put it down. Suspense from the beginning to end. Great book. Love your website. Always gives me new authors and great books.
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jerry, thanks for telling us about Lisa Jackson’s suspense mystery.
Merry says
I have pre-ordered several books on the list.
I am most looking forward to Grace Among Thieves -Hyzy, The Diva Digs up The Dirt – Davis, Hot Button – Logan and Dead Man Waltzing – Barrick.
Also coming out on June 5th is The Azalea Assault by Alyse Carlson, first in a Garden Society series. Gardening is something I enjoy and look forward to a new series with a gardening theme.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Merry, it looks like you and Violette will be reading some of the very same books in June.
Also, thank you for telling us about Alyse Carlson’s The Azalea Assault. I love the cover!
Regina says
Danna, It appears that Noelle Upson’s newest book has not been published in America. Both BN and Amazon are listing it as a used book published in England. Is that true? I won’t buy a used book for $20.00 and up.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Regina, it looks like Nicola Upson’s latest book in the Josephine Tey Mystery Series hasn’t been released yet in the USA.
Jerry says
Finished James Patterson’s 11th Hour tonight. Started it yesterday. Woman’s murder club. Don’t have to tell you how good it was. It was great
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jerry, not to mention Maxine Paetro…
Regina says
Danna, I wlll not be blogging for a week as I am off to Co. My only grandaughter will graduate from high school next week. Nook is all packed plus a couple of paperbacks to tide me over while my Nook is charging. I just finished Gail Bowen’s newest book. Her books are always fascinating because of their portrayal of Canadian life and politics. Some things are the same but some are very different.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Regina, I KNOW you will have a wonderful time in Colorado, visiting your daughter and family. We’ll talk to you when you get back.
Thanks for the thumb-up on Gail Bowen’s latest Joanne Kilbourn mystery.
Jerry says
Just finished John Sandford’s latest release “Stolen prey”. I highly recommend reading it.
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jerry, thanks for recommending John Sandford’s mystery books.
Amy says
I listened to this one on audio and thought it was great! I know it’s not a cozy, but…
Jerry says
Danna
just read a book by Beth Groundwater “A Real Basket Case” from 2007. Never read her before. Really enjoyed the book. A murder, a mystery. What else could you ask for. Just put “To Hell in a Handbasket” 2009 on reserve.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jerry, and when you’re done with Beth Groundwater’s Claire Handover Mystery Series, she now is concentrating on her Rocky Mountain Outdoor Adventure Mystery Series.
Jerry says
Danna
Thank you I will
Sheila says
Have you read this: Chocolate Can Kill (Emily Harris Mysteries) by Annie Acorn? It’s really good.
Jerry says
I just finished Beth Groundwater’s second book To Hell in a Handbasket. Just as good as the first. Have her new series on reserve . My wife just finished James Swain’s new one Dark Magic. She said it was really good. Starting that one now. I am always looking for new suggestions. Danna great website, keep them coming. Have found so may new authors because of you and the other readers. Thank you
JMW
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Jerry, for the kind words about the Cozy Mystery site. Also, I have to get the Cozy Mystery Books Recommendations – May 2012 entry posted soon. This month is going so fast!
Jerry says
I was off yesterday. My wife was right. James Swain’s new one Dark Magic was great. Started it yesterday morning and finished it last night. A can’t put it down read.
JMW
Amy says
I didn’t see Mary Kay Andrew’s new book on your list – maybe she’s not considered a cozy writer? Her new book is called “Spring Fever.”
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thank you, Amy, for telling me about Mary Kay Andrew’s new book. I added Spring Fever to her page.
DonnaCarol says
Danna……Just found this site tonight and am already very excited about it. I think the site is going to be very helpful to me . I love books of all genre’s but cozy mysteries are by far my favorite. Tried and true to go to anytime, no matter what is going on in my life. Like macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. lol.
Have you or any of the regulars on your site read “BUYING TIME” by Kelly Cochran? First in a series by a first time author. The book came out in April. I didn’t notice it on the April new release list so I thought you may not be aware of it. It is a good mystery.
I read in a previous blog that you may do a list of cozies by the state involved in the book. I like to read books that take place in the south.(among ALL the others) Like “The Doughnut Shop” mysteries. Just wondering if you started a list like that or know if a list like that exists.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Welcome to the site, DonnaCarol! Thank you for telling us about Kelly Cochran. I only list the authors I already have on the site when I post the monthly mystery book new releases lists. I’ll take a look at Buying Time.
As for Cozy Mystery Books by state, I have already posted many states that way, and they can be found at the bottom of the Cozy Mysteries by Theme page. (Click on this link)
Andie says
Danna, I just noted that the two latest Libby Sargeant Murder Mysteries by Lesley Cookman have been released on Kindle.
The ninth, Murder at the Manor on June 15 and for some odd reason, the tenth, Murder by Magic was released on May 31, 2012 but did not show up on my Amazon page until mid-June.
I discovered this author on your blog a few weeks ago and when I saw one title on Kindle, waited until I could get them all before starting to read them.
I also just read the new Dandy Gilver mystery and it is excellent. Quirky plot with multiple mysteries and a twist at the end that I did not see coming at all. I would rate this right up there with the best of any cozy I have read in recent years.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Andie, I just bought the first mystery in Catriona McPherson‘s Dandy Gilver series AND the first Libby Sarjeant mystery by Lesley Cookman for my Kindle. Thanks for mentioning both of these authors!
Both of them are authors who I have been wanting to read, but your comment is what got me to finally do something about it. Thanks, again!
