Wonderful! A new Dandy Gilver mystery. I really like this series.

I must stop reading these lists of books, every time my wish list of books to read gets longer and longer and longer.

Love it when the new releases for an upcoming month are given on here. I have been reading older series that I just discovered lately so I haven’t kept up with some of the newer releases. I do like to see what is new and upcoming.

However, am looking forward to reading Ellery Adam’s Pie and Prejudice. It is the first in the series and I enjoy her Mystery By the Bay series. Also, am thinking I should try her other fairly new release Buried In A Book which she wrote under the name of Lucy Arlington along with Sylvia May. I enjoy Jennifer Stanley writing.

Goodness Danna, What a terrific line up of new releases for July!! Where to start! I love the Donna Andrews bird series. I learn so many interesting tid bits about certain types of birds. I love the birds and I love learning about these critters. Watching these criters sail through the skies is such a pleasure to see and this is free!
I love Mary Daheim, both series. I have started to reread the “Bed and Breakfast” series. I think there are things in some of these older Cozy series that I have forgotten about. I seem to have forgotten several important things about some of these series. So I intend to reread several of these older series. My intent is to reread these series in between the newer ones. I am retired. I have plenty of time. Hope I can get caught up by the time this new one comes out.
I have grown to really enjoy the Scotish series by Kaitlyn Dunnett because of my Scots/Irish ancestry. While reading this series I can see traits of my maternal grandmother, whom I loved very much and whom I have missed very much even though she died in 1970.
J.A. Jance is a very favorite because Joanna Brady being a woman who has had to reinvent herself after the loss of her 1st husband. I so admire women like this.
I think I will enjoy this new book by Iris Johansen. I have grown tired of the Eve Duncan series because that series just seems to go on and on, similar to the old “The Fugitive” TV series. This plot has just gotten too repetitive. Sometimes we have to realize that our children are gone and are not coming back, as hard as that is. We can’t allow the loss of one child to destroy the other people in our lives. We have to go on.
The book by Amanda Flowers seems to be the type of book that, I hope, Cozy readers will enjoy so that this writer can continue on with the series.
Looks to be great reading during the summer months.
Do any of you find yourself relating to any of the characters in any of these books and stories? Do any of you ever wish that you could go back in time and reinvent yourself the way these people in these stories do? Wouldn’t this be nice if we could do that in real life?

Linda C, I know what you are talking about >>> hoping an author will do well with Cozy Mystery readers. It’s unfortunate that they have to “prove themselves” with the publishing companies. It’s no wonder so many Cozy Mystery authors have had to “change their styles” to include things they wouldn’t have had in their books.

As far as wanting to reinvent myself… there are things I have regretted doing, but I wouldn’t change a whole lot>>> other than not doing the things I have regretted.

What a great day !!! I bought a new Nook with the built in backlight and much easier to handle than my old one. Then I received word that Mark Schweizer’s new book was published and I promptly ordered it from the publisher. Now the July Reading is published with some of my favorite authors, Jance, Daheim, and Andrews. Be still my beating heart.

There are 22 authors of the 29 authors listed that I follow. Note some are hardbacks and I wait until it is in paperback to get it. Unless I can get a good price on the hardback. By way it is June and since Friday the 1st, I have read four books.

Ginger, you must follow a lot of authors! As my reading time dwindles down, I find myself putting off reading some of the authors who I used to consider my favorite authors. I keep thinking I’ll be able to read their books later, but since they keep publishing books, I am more behind on a lot of them.

I just began to read Ada Madison’s new book with Sophia Knowles on my new Nook. It is pretty well written but lack a certain snap. However, I discovered Madison is also Minichino and i do like that series about the elements. Also I never realized that she is a graduate of my sister’s college in Boston and a good friend of hers is a good friend of my sister. Small world.

Regina, not only is Camille Minichino Ada Madison, she’s also Margaret Grace!

(In October of 2009, I went out to Cambridge to visit my daughter at school. We took a tour to Salem, and passed Revere Beach – which I particularly enjoyed, since Minichino’s Periodic Table Mystery Series is set there.)

Maybe this is a subject for another blog but I have not read a Mary Daheim cozy. Notice she has written many books in the Alpine series and many in the Bed and Breakfast series. The book that is new this month is the Bed and Breakfast series. If you were to start one of the series, which one would you choose?

Lynn, I recommend starting with the Bed and Breakfast series. The heroines are two slightly zany cousins, who stumble on mysteries in all sorts of places, but mainly at the bed and breakfast one of them runs. The Alpine series is about a newspaperwoman; I had a harder time getting into them, but they certainly have their fans, too.

I enjoy Daheim’s Alpine series the best. It seems to be more believable. I own both series but when I will reread them I will reach for Emma Lord and the Alpine books. Above all if it is possible, start with the first book in either series as it will give you a handle on characters and setting. Happy reading.

Thanks for the Daheim recommendations. I think I will buy the Kindle edition of the first book in the Alpine series and the Bed & Breakfast series. It seems like both series are liked.
I recently checked out the first books in Charlotte MacLeod’s two series from the library. I loved The Family Vault about Sarah Kelling and am now reading Rest You Merry about Peter Shandy. What a hoot! Can tell I am going to be a fan of both series.

I was spurred by reading Katherine Hall Page’s new book to start rereading the earlier books in that series, and I cannot remember any of them. It is enjoyable to watch the characters evolve and age. I have one question to ask. Does she ever mention what religion Millicent Revere favors? I know she does not practice the same religion as Faith but she is always saying that her family originally did. I am glad someone else is enjoying Charlotte MacLeod’s book. When I read about Peter Shandy decorating for Christmas I laughed so hard that I cried.

I do read fast. Blame my older sister, she taught me to read when I was 3 or 4 because she liked to play school and I was a willing pupil. One thing that helps me to read even faster is large print both in books and my Nook. Does anyone else feel that large print seems to enable a person to read faster?

Regina, I had an older sister who wasn’t as interested in playing school as she was in playing hairdresser: my bangs were never even!

I love being able to adjust my Kindle’s font. I find that my books flow a whole lot better when I don’t have to do as much focusing on the print. As much as I enjoyed my Miss Seeton mysteries, I finally dropped them. The font was just too doggone tiny to enjoy the books. I mean, I could read them, but they didn’t flow…

If you have not read and want a suggestion take a look at the series by G A McKevett. Once you read the first one you will not be able to stop. You feel like you actually know the charactors. A great read. Oh by the way the new books by Janet Evanovich and Caroline Haines come out today.

Hello…I have recently discovered John Dickson Carr and have puchased and read… To Wake the Dead and The Crooked Hinge, I found him to be a wonderful bedside read! I have always been of course a huge fan (prefer somewhat portly) of Dame Agatha, and collect any and all I find by her especially if its a first edition. I have also started to collect Kinky Friedmans mysteries…while not for everyone…he does often make me laugh and I admire his ranch for old or injured pets! Thanks for listening and read on!
