Journalists / Reporters in (Cozy) Mysteries, Pt. 2 (of 3) H – M

July 6, 2009

A journalist seeks out stories that other professionals (other than detectives – either private or police officers) don’t generally try to find, and subsequently solve. Perhaps this is the reason that there are so many journalist/reporter sleuths who star in the mysteries that we love to read. Here is the second part of the three part list of authors (with lasts names beginning with H – M) who are on the Cozy Mystery Site and who happen to write series which feature reporter / journalist sleuths:

Hi Danna, was wondering what your thoughts where on the New Miss Marple Movies. Started watching a Pocket Full Of Rye but to me seemed like there were too many scenes or something. It seemed one minute you where watching something, then on to something else, then back. They needed to stay with it awhile. Let me know what you thought, ok? Maybe do a column of it for this week.

    Hi Alfred,

I’m sorry it has taken so long to get back to your comment. We haven’t watched the new Miss Marple yet, but hope to do so soon.

I can say that we really enjoyed the new Poirot shows. I sort of remember the last “series” of the Poirot shows as not being as good as I had expected. So, this season’s two Poirot shows were a very pleasant surprise to me. I still miss Inspector Japp, Miss Lemon, and Capt. Hastings, but I’m enjoying Poirot’s free-lance work with new characters.

How about the rest of you site readers? Any opinions you’d like to share?

I noticed you didn’t include Gregory Mcdonald’s Fletch series … not cozy, I guess, but some fine mysteries nonetheless. (Especially the first two, which won back-to-back Edgars.)

In my Nick and Nora mystery series, the lead character, Nora Charles, is an ex-true crime reporter. 🙂
