Inspector Lewis: Your Sudden Death Question – PBS NEW Masterpiece Mystery! (Season 3)

September 19, 2010

I am going to keep this very brief… Don’t forget that tonight your local PBS station should be showing a new Inspector Lewis episode: Your Sudden Death, which of course, is inspired by the wonderful (non) cozy Colin Dexter mystery books.

And, for all of you Jonathan Creek fans >>> The terrific news is that Alan Davies will be in this Inspector Lewis episode!

I stopped by your blog today. Great info. I loved the Duchess of Duke Street series and watched through them all again a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the Jonathan Creek lead. I had never heard of the series, but my library has it, so I just ordered Season 1 and 2. We love Nick and Nora – named our two adopted stray cats after them!

I have seen all of the Thin Man movies, and absolutely LOVE Nick and Nora… Your cats are well-named!
(PS>>> Let us know what you think of Jonathan Creek.)

Danna: I, too, loved the “Jonathan Creek” mysteries. I only got see series 1 and 2 because, that’s all our local PBS station ever showed. Caroline Quentin went on to star in the “Blue Murder” series. This series was definitely not a cozy, but Miss Quentin was so good in it as a police detective, recent divorcee, and mother of four.

I, too, loved the “Jonathan Creek” mysteries. I didn’t know that Miss Quentin stars in a new mystery series; I haven’t heard of it. Is it now showing in the US?

I loved seeing Alan Davies in the “Sudden Death” episode of the Inspector Lewis mystery. He was so “so Jonathan Creek” in that episode.

Eveline: “Blue Murder” is not being shown in the U. S. I watched series 1-4 on DVD. I don’t know if it is still in production or not. Laura

Laura: Thanks for the info. I will see if I can get a hold of it.

Also, does anybody know what happened to the “Midsomer Murders”? I was always looking forward to watching it on the A&E channel. Then, during the hiatus they made such a big do on promotion with contests, etc. where they will show all the favorites that people voted on before showing the brand new episodes. When the new season came, not only did A&E not show any episode but they completely took the show off their program.

“Midsomer Murders” was one of the best shows ever created. The beautiful country setting and fabulous and yet, sometimes, silly characters just draw people in. I’m still hoping that one of the channels will pick it up one day.

    Eveline,

I think that a lot of us were disappointed and surprised when A & E dropped shows like Midsomer Murders, Poirot, and Sherlock Holmes.

As far as I know Midsomer Murders is not being shown on television here in the states. You have to either buy the shows, rent them, or get them from your library.

    Danna,

Now that you mentioned it, I remember being upset when I found out that they dropped all the great mystery programs. I called my cable company to drop A&E; unfortunately, it’s part of the package that we purchased. I don’t even know what they show on that channel anymore. The last time I tuned into it was when I found out that they took out all the mystery programs from their line-up.

I have completed my Sherlock Holmes collection five years ago, and my Poirot collection is almost complete. I do not plan to get the recent Poirot specials. I feel that, somehow, they were not well written, or perhaps not well directed.

Incidentally, I’m so glad I discovered this blog.

Eveline, I think that A&E has become another network laden with realilty TV types of shows…

Danna, you may be right. I will tune into it tonight to check their programs. I don’t really understand why so many networks are now showing these so-called reality shows. A lot of them are so sickening.

    Eveline,
Hope your A & E night wasn’t too depressing! I do miss those old British mysteries, but there must be a huge audience for bounty hunting, exterminating, CSI-ers. (I just looked at their prime time schedule…)

Danna, as it turned out, there is nothing on A & E now that I want to watch. I agree with you; I really miss those old British mysteries.

I am still hoping that one of these days, another channel will pick up Inspector Barnaby, Hetty Wainthrop, Rosemary and Thyme, and all those great shows!

Eveline, it really is a shame about this channel! The abbreviated letters used to mean Arts & Entertainment… anyway, that’s what I think they used to mean…

Danna, you are right, it really is a shame about this channel. It used to have a prestigious reputation. Now, there really is nothing great about it. For some unknown reason, they just dumbed it down. I absolutely don’t get it.
And, yes, it was Arts and Entertainment!
