Happy (& Safe) Fourth of July
I hope you all have a very Happy Fourth of July! And, I should add Safe! And a belated Happy Canada Day to our northern neighbors!
My husband and I haven’t made up our minds yet about going to see the fireworks. It is so doggone hot and humid that we’re thinking about just turning on our television to take a peek at the celebrations. Today’s weather here in San Antonio is projected to be Sunny with a high of 102°. Hmmm, let’s see >>> Right now it sounds better to just turn on that TV and enjoy the fireworks with our air conditioner cranked up!
P.S. Please make sure your pets are inside during the neighborhood festivities. Our Sprite used to pass the night trembling with fright when she heard all of the fireworks blasting outside. They were usually quite close. One of them hit our house one year >>> during a drought!
Ginger, it’s a great town, but my husband and I are getting really tired of the humid heat we get down here >>> especially during the summer, although the months that book-end the summer are pretty hot, too.
??Happy Independence Day to y’all too‼️
It’s beautiful here in NC on our SOBX.
On July 4, we let our wonderful tourists
enjoy our beaches and great happenings.
Sharing a meal with friends, watching
Capitol 4th in the cool comfort of home
& catching glimpses of the local fireworks
through our windows works for us.
Mg, it sounds like you have the same thing going with all the tourists in your city as we do here. A friend of mine lives in Corpus Christi and she says their very worse time is during Spring Break, with summer being a very close second.
Happy Fourth of July! I live in a town in the San Francisco Bay Area which advocates the selling of safe and sane fireworks. For the last few days the sound of fireworks have been going off until 2 or 3 in the morning. I dread tonight, not only because of the drought conditions, but the noise terrifies my yorkie (and me). I plan on watering my front and backyards today and turning up the TV and fans tonight.
KG, I can totally identify with dreading nights with fireworks! We had to give Sprite a pill (our veterinarian prescribed) to keep her a little calmer. Even with that pill she would tremble and attach herself to my side for the night. Fireworks are illegal in San Antonio, but that doesn’t seem to make a difference…
I agree, Danna. I don’t have a pet now but my Daschund, Max would really freak during the 4th and our people out here run them every day for a week! Ouch! I wouldn’t say no to rain. Being a Yank, I sit out on my porch and read during a storm if the lightning doesn’t get too close. I love the sound but not nuts about the attendant thunder.
When it was that hot and humid in Dallas or Corpus when I was in the Navy Reserves, I would stay inside so don’t blame you. I never left a pet outside. They can strangle themselves with fear and it so desperately hurts their ears.
Same to you and family for the good day, food, fun and family.
Be safe.
Rob, thanks for the good wishes. Also, how neat to be stationed at the naval base in Corpus Christi. A friend of mine lives there and absolutely loves it.
I like your plan! Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate the 4th in the midst of the heat and humidity! I also want to say thank you for all of your hard work on this blog. I really appreciate it! I have always been a mystery buff since a tween when my mom introduced me to Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe books. I do find, now that I am significantly older that while I still love mysteries, I am less enamored with hard core realism. That’s why it distresses me that the major publishers are significantly cutting series I adore and apparently the genre in general. Keep up the amazing work!!
Just received another box of books from my mother and in it were two by Debbie Macomber.
It appears to be a series book….and published by Guideposts….
1. The In. At Rose Harbor
2. Rose Harbor in Bloom
“From #1 New York Times best-selling author Debbie Macomber comes a heartwarming series based in the Pacific Northwest town of Cedar Cove, where a charming cast of characters finds love, forgiveness, and renewal behind the doors of the cozy Rose Harbor Inn.
Jo Marie Rose first arrives in Cedar Cove seeking a fresh start. A young widow coping with the death of her husband, she purchases a local bed-and-breakfast — the newly christened arose Harbor Inn — ready to begin life anew.”
Taken from the back cover of the first book, and I’m assuming there will be more books in the series….haven’t read either yet, just unpacked them.
Silver Linnings the third and the fourth is Sweet Tomorrows coming out in August. It will be the last book in this series. I’m sad it’s a sweet series.
Bev S, those two of the books in Debbie Macomber’s Rose Harbor series. I have a few of her series on my site, but it’s super difficult to keep up with all of the books she has written.
The Annie’s series, Antique Shop Mysteries is as follows….once again, they switched things around….
1. Stranger in the Looking Glass by Jan Fields
2. The Secret Letter by Mary Blount Chrisrian
3. The Christmas Riddle )
4. Pieces from the Past ) Author not given
Second book was in another box of books from mum….
MJH, it was pretty odd to hear a firecracker hit our house. We live in a very populated area, so it always surprises us when people insist on setting them off.
102 plus San An humidity? Yikes! To our great surprise and delight we in North Texas received a big rain storm last night. Our house got two inches. The weather people said there was only a 20 % chance of rain so I didn’t expect any here. This morning it got down to 69 and in the low 80s right now even with the sun out. Quite a different day from what we usually have on the Fourth. I don’t know if we will have fireworks but Mother Nature sure gave us a show that lasted all night long!
Ceelee Sunshine, we had some rain down here a little while ago, but it seems like it wasn’t followed by a beautiful day. We drive through northern Texas on our way to Colorado Springs and I’m always surprised to see snow on the ground on your cold days. So different than down here!

Visiting San Antonio now. Lived here 60 years before leaving two years ago.

Kimberley, thank you for the kind words! I’m concerned about seeing so many Cozy authors starting non Cozy series, too. I just don’t get it!
