Happy New Year!
I hope that ALL of you have a safe and healthy New Year.
We are planning to celebrate very quietly tonight, although I am sure a lot of our neighbors will be shooting off fire works all night long. Now that our “puppy” Sprite is no longer with us, the noise will at least not make any of us shiver with fear all night. She was absolutely terrified of fire crackers (and thunder).
My husband and I are so different than my parents. I remember my mother and father going to late-night parties at the end of the year… sort of like they were cramming in one last hurrah on the 31st of each December. I’m not sure if it’s that we live in a different time or if my husband and I simply are party-poopers, but somehow we just can’t seem to get excited about the prospect of huge New Year’s Eve parties. We much prefer small get-togethers.
Anyway, I truly hope ALL of you (and yours) have a wonderful 2014 (and on!)
Happy New Year Danna and to all the Cozy Mystery Readers. Hubby and I are celebrating by staying home reading. I always feel it’s a night for the younger people to enjoy as I did years ago.
My Husband and I are the same way. In fact we are usually in bed before midnight. Oh well. If we have the grandsons we do a silly string fight at some point before bed.

I have 4 dogs and one of them goes crazy when they start. Also the other 3 are sisters and they are about three. They look at her and think what in the world is wrong with you.
My husband is reading in bed and I’m typing on the IPad he gave me for Xmas! (watching “twilight zone”)

Wishing all my fellow mystery fans a wonderful and happy 2014.
I have had fun in the last week watching the “Jesse Stone” mysteries with Tom Selleck, based on the Robert B. Parker novels, but there are only four all told available on NetFlix. There is a set of 8 DVDs, I hope Netflix will be able to broadcast the remaining four.
I’ve also been enjoying Essie Davis as Phryne Fisher in the Australian-based mystery series, based on the wonderful novels by Kerry Greenwood.
Anyway, may all our mysteries be delightfully resolved – and fictional! Happy 2014, folks.
Happy 2014 to all. Living in Connecticut (especially this year) it was brrrr cold outside … so I stayed in and watched the ball come time on TV in Times Square.
We are the same way…friends always ask us to go to big parties but we prefer to stay home, make a great dinner, watch a movie and just enjoy each others company.
4th of July was VERY noisy and I was expecting the same last night, instead it was quiet. I am happy to report that my puppy and I slept through the beginning of the new year without incident.

Party animals?? I think this behaviour relates more to the circle of life than to changing times. Each generation rebels against its parents and pursues different interests. Without this variety a community would become boring and insular in just a few generations. (Try the word ‘parochial’ for this.) That would not help the human species to endure. Possibly your parents did not develop the skills in written literacy that you have. Only you can identify the differences really.
Around here New Year’s Eve festivities seem to be based on watching fireworks and simply meeting friends.

My husband set a record this year – he was asleep at 7:30 PM! I stayed up till after midnight knowing my brother would call to wish us a Happy New Year. My husband didn’t wake up even when the phone rang. I can’t even remember the last time we went out for New Year’s!
I go to a house party with my two best friends (and their families) every year. We celebrate the New Year with the kids, and then after they go to bed the grown-ups can kick back, eat too many Christmas cookies and play the new games the kids’ got for Christmas (there may be some wine, and, umm, margaritas involved as well). It’s nice, though, because we stay overnight – no worries about driving home with all the partiers on the road.
Happy New Year to all! I decided to stay home this time around, and watched the Twilight Zone marathon while flipping to the Dr Who marathon during the commercials. Now THAT was wild! 🙂
Happy New Year everyone! We stay home as well. I make a nice dinner and then we are in bed by 9:30 or so. This year, for some strange reason, the neighborhood partiers had their fireworks at 10:15. If they had them again at midnight, we didn’t hear them!
Maria, until we moved to Texas a little over twenty years ago, my husband nor I remember ever having fireworks for New Year’s. They’re illegal in the city, but that only seems to make those who shoot them off buy bigger and louder firecrackers each year.
This is Monday Jan. 6th, 2014. Hope everyone of you had a very nice Christmas holiday season. Happy New Year to all of you.
On the Saturday before Christmas I had either a compound migraine or a mini stroke, along with a severe urinary tract infection. I was in the hospital for 4 days. Because I have a metal implant in my left ear an MRI couldn’t be done. I am better but have not regained all my motor skills yet. I’ll be okay. Sometimes I have to read a paragraph several times before it sinks in. My DH is having to help me spell while I am typing here.
As it is across the country it is very cold in this part of Ohio. Most of the schools are closed.
On New Year’s Eve DH and I went to my nephew’s house just across town and played Texas “hold’m”. I came in 6th but 6th doesn’t get ya any money, dagnabit!!! New Year’s Day we just watched football.

Oh my gosh, Linda C! I am so sorry to hear about your hospitalization! Since that all happened before Christmas and you were able to go to your nephew’s house on New Year’s Eve, then it sounds like you are really on the mend.
Coming in 6th in the Texas “hold’m” game sounds OK even though you didn’t win any money. Your luck held strong when it came to your health!
